I had a tape I recorded of the air where the DJ faded from Clapton's "Layla" (the classic version) into Supertramp's "Even In the Quietest Moments". It made for a similar feeling as you describe.
Vietnam war-era song. Justin tried to express the angst of the young American soldier torn from home to fight an ugly war. MBs ended every concert with “Question”.💙
I saw the Moody Blues in person way back when, around 1970. They were as good in person as on their recordings. I’m 75 now and starting to fade away but I still listen to their Records. Unfortunately most of the Blues are my age now and they like me are fading. If there is life after death I hope I will see and hear them again in the afterlife. They are my second favorite group with first going to Journey. I have seen both groups in person many years ago. Both groups sound as good in person as they did on recordings. I miss those good old days….

Jethro Tull was my first memorable concert experience. What a trip!
When I got out of the navy in 77 I painted journey 's office in San Francisco, didn't meet them that week,but in 2012 got to talk to Steve Perry at the San Francisco giants world series ,got our picture on the wall!
I saw them at the LA Forum in early 1971 and it was an amazing show. Mike Pinder with his mellotrons were still with them and it was an exquisite night.

I've been playing guitar for more than 50 years and I still can't strum as fast as Justin does on this song. I've seen them more than a dozen times starting back in 1973. Amazing in concert.
He open tuned his Guild 12 string to simplify the fretting, allowing him to concentrate on his right hand strumming. I'm a 35 year+ player, and I never had the right hand flexibility to strum it either.
The Moodys were way ahead of their time. I'm so glad I was around to hear them when they first introduced themselves to the world. Their music just stirs something in one's soul.
The Moody Blues were the spiritual voice of my youth and continue to be that now in my 70’s. Was able to see them in concert back in the day and they blew me away. Amber, loved how you really got into the song. Thank you both for your reactions.

This is the only song I ever played live on guitar to an audience. It was at Rookies in downtown Orlando. The regular singer was taking a break and let me have a pick at his guitar. I had just learned how to play this through so I started, there were only a dozen or so people actually in the bar. I didn't realized the mics were being pumped out into the street, halfway through there were more people in the bar and when I turned around there were about a hundred people standing outside looking in. When I finished, there was a huge applause. I was embarrassed but also energized. I've never played and sang in front of anyone else, I suffer terribly from stage fright. It's a beautiful song, I've seen the Moody Blues a half dozen times over the years and this song is always the one I liked best.
Not this song, but moody blues is one of the first songs I ever played live in a band myself. I hope you can work through your stage fright. It sounds like something you did must have connected with people. Honestly, it doesn't matter if you're amazing or skilled on guitar or the greatest singer. If you're connecting with people, you're doing something right.
Bassist John Lodge wrote that one. He comes in with a bouncy bass guitar riff after the drum solo intro goes from 0 to 150 beats per minute in the first 17 seconds. Hayward's lead guitar dances all around Pinder's oblique motion with a string ensemble tape loop on the mellotron keyboard in the instrumental break about two minutes into the song.
Jay my brother I used to listen to this in college when I was going through a depression. When I was questioning so many questions in life. They are called the Moody Blues because we all go through the moody blues.
I sit here with tears streaming down my cheeks. I first heard this song sometime in 1972, I was 9 years old and the family was in the midst of a very painful tragedy , one that at the time had me confused, sad and "full of questions". 52 years on it still chokes me up as it did then but at least today I can say [I think] I understand. Thank you for playing this one, I have been a Moody Blues fan ever since that first exposure and expect if I live another 52 years it will still affect me the same. Can't say that about too many bands. On a happier note, Luca is adorable, let him listen to all the music he wants, you never know when it will be important in his life too.
Amber was asking what genre ELO was, with all the instruments? This is where the sound of symphonic rock originates, with the Moody Blues. I should mention, prog rock is meant to be listened to as an entire album, which is why many songs will be somewhat out of context listened to individually.

I have the same 1-2 combo when it comes to bands. I saw the Moody's something like 7 times but unfortunately never the classic version with Mike Pinder.
Saw them live in Zilker Park in Austin Texas,Labor Day 1988.They gave a free concert,and I cannot describe the feeling singing this along with Justin and the thousands who new these words by heart

I wore out my vinyl copy of this back in 1971. Thank you for sharing your reaction to this. And I get why you have to stop in the middle to prevent copyright strikes. But the entire song is a sandwich. And makes more sense when listened to straight through. That’s the only downside to reaction channels on YT; music is meant to be heard as a whole.

Thanks for doing this song 'Question'. It's been 35-40 years probably since I last heard it. I'm sad that the next generation doesn't have the quality of singers, and bands that were around in the 60's into the 90s. Because I listened mostly to radio, other than a few LPs I bought, I missed hearing the titles of the songs, and didn't pay much attention to the lyrics. As you have been finding out we had a huge bunch of really great music back then. That's not even taking into account my favorite 4, Vangelis, Mke Oldfield, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Tangerine Dream. From the same album as Question is another of my favorite Moody Blues songs. The song is named Minstrel’s Song, and it has a very unique drum sound in it.
Some Moody Blues songs have intros or pieces that accompany them and they really need to be listened to together. I'd recommend Ride My Seesaw and Legend of a Mind. But they have a huge catalog and you will like all of the songs.

I saw them here in Milwaukee with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra backing them up. It was outdoors and they released doves into the crowd. Man, the whole Symphony ROCKED this tune and the whole concert with the Moody Blues.

You are looking at a compilation album, the track actually comes from the album, A Question of Balance. Justin Hayward wrote the song which started off as a combination of two separate songs. It worked really well, and this was the fantastic result. A good choice today.

@carlgemlich1657 : I had the pleasure of meeting Mike in the mid 90's. A consummate gentleman, he had been out of the music biz approximately 20-25 years. So I asked him, "Where have you been all this time?" He replied: "Raising a family", which was his antidote for being in the Moodies, especially the traveling portion. He is BTW, the piano soloist on "Go Now !", the Moodies first single from 1965.
I started listening to the Moody Blues in 1967. They had 4-5 albums at that time and they have produced many more since. It was rare if one of their songs got high up in popularity but so many of their songs are wonderful. There are some rock and roll songs, some nice melodies, and some that cannot be described, and those songs make it difficult to describe their style of music but I can say their music is great. I think they are my favorite group, there are others I really like but I can always listen to the Moodies.
They delivered so many great tunes. This was the opening track of their album "Question of Balance." Side two kicks off with another brilliant Hayward composition, "It's Up to You" -- well worth a listen! 😊
The journey of life are reflected in most of the Blues compositions. The song following this is How is it (We are Here) and so on and so forth. Magical concert band back in the day when they were fresh, hypnotic and created an atmosphere of tranquilly and introspection. When Mike left the band, it was never the same again for me. Glad you are back. Life is full of ups and downs and taking breaks is essential to "A Question of Balance." in life.

Great reaction guys, thanks for doing another Moody's song. "Question" is the 1st song off their 1970 album, Question of Balance (Nights in White Satin was off Days of Future Passed in 1967). Question of Balance was the first album I ever heard of the Moody Blues in the early 70s. I fell in love with their melodious songs and amazing harmonies straight away. I went out the next payday and bought three of their other albums. After Pink Floyd, they are my next favourite band. I saw them live in 1985 when they toured Australia, all their band members were there, and then again, I saw them after the passing of Ray Thomas (flautist - RIP). Both times they sounded exactly the same as their studio recordings. Would love to see your reaction to 2 of their shorter songs (could be done in the one session) - The Story in Your Eyes, and Lovely to See You. Cheers from Australia, mate.

‘73 was my first MB concert as well. What a great time it was, but I do recall a funny smell in the air.

He was mimicking Richie Havens who they had toured with. RH does a lot of fast strumming on some of his songs.

I’ve been following the Moody Blues for their whole career. We believed that each album was a theme and all the songs related to that theme.
Forever autumn is a must

Thanks for doing this song 'Question'. It's been 35-40 years probably since I last heard it. I'm sad that the next generation doesn't have the quality of singers, and bands that were around in the 60's into the 90s. Because I listened mostly to radio, other than a few LPs I bought, I missed hearing the titles of the songs, and didn't pay much attention to the lyrics. As you have been finding out we had a huge bunch of really great music back then. That's not even taking into account my favorite 4, Vangelis, Mke Oldfield, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Tangerine Dream. Hope you give them a listen, even if you don't do a reaction. Thanks again from Canada.

From the same album as Question is another of my favorite Moody Blues songs. The song is named Minstrel’s Song, and it has a very unique drum sound in it.

Some Moody Blues songs have intros or pieces that accompany them and they really need to be listened to together. I'd recommend Ride My Seesaw and Legend of a Mind. But they have a huge catalog and you will like all of the songs.

@@willdwyer6782 Go Now was a song covered by the Moodies. It was actually by written by Larry Banks and Milton Bennett & first recorded by Bessie Banks in 1964. Without any success, Bessie’s backing singer was Cissy Houston, mother of Whitney.

I saw them here in Milwaukee with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra backing them up. It was outdoors and they released doves into the crowd. Man, the whole Symphony ROCKED this tune and the whole concert with the Moody Blues.
OMG that sounds awesome! I have few regrets in life, but one of them is passing on the opportunity to see them in Phoenix in the early 1990's because of work.

My favorite album is On the Threshold of a Dream but my favorite songs are Legend of a Mind and Are You Sitting Comfortably.
You are looking at a compilation album, the track actually comes from the album, A Question of Balance. Justin Hayward wrote the song which started off as a combination of two separate songs. It worked really well, and this was the fantastic result. A good choice today.

A consummate gentleman, he had been out of the music biz approximately 20-25 years.
So I asked him, "Where have you been all this time?"
He replied: "Raising a family", which was his antidote for being in the Moodies, especially the traveling portion.
He is BTW, the piano soloist on "Go Now !", the Moodies first single from 1965.
I bought a Moody Blues album in the 80s. One of the few albums I had that I enjoyed every song on.
Out of this world?
I started listening to the Moody Blues in 1967. They had 4-5 albums at that time and they have produced many more since. It was rare if one of their songs got high up in popularity
but so many of their songs are wonderful. There are some rock and roll songs, some nice melodies, and some that cannot be described, and those songs make it difficult to describe their style of music but I can say their music is great. I think they are my favorite group, there are others I really like but I can always listen to the Moodies.

They delivered so many great tunes. This was the opening track of their album "Question of Balance." Side two kicks off with another brilliant Hayward composition, "It's Up to You" -- well worth a listen! 😊
Remember laying in bed listening to this on the radio. One of my favorite MB songs, powerful and serene.
The journey of life are reflected in most of the Blues compositions. The song following this is How is it (We are Here) and so on and so forth. Magical concert band back in the day when they were fresh, hypnotic and created an atmosphere of tranquilly and introspection. When Mike left the band, it was never the same again for me. Glad you are back. Life is full of ups and downs and taking breaks is essential to "A Question of Balance." in life.

It's the first track from thier Album " A question of Balance" - If you have a chance to listen to the entire Albu - you must....It the Moodies at thier Prog Rock/ Phsycadellic best

Great reaction guys, thanks for doing another Moody's song. "Question" is the 1st song off their 1970 album, Question of Balance (Nights in White Satin was off Days of Future Passed in 1967). Question of Balance was the first album I ever heard of the Moody Blues in the early 70s. I fell in love with their melodious songs and amazing harmonies straight away. I went out the next payday and bought three of their other albums. After Pink Floyd, they are my next favourite band. I saw them live in 1985 when they toured Australia, all their band members were there, and then again, I saw them after the passing of Ray Thomas (flautist - RIP). Both times they sounded exactly the same as their studio recordings. Would love to see your reaction to 2 of their shorter songs (could be done in the one session) - The Story in Your Eyes, and Lovely to See You. Cheers from Australia, mate.
