    As when doing anything odd in public, you always gain onlookers and nosey humans that follow you around and bug you. So it helps to wear clothes that make you look absolutely insane so people don't approach you. Like fly fishing waders with a crossing guard vest and a neon bowler to match.

    The umbrella is essential to put your canvas in it's shade if you have direct sunlight on your canvas. Else if you take your painting indoors, it'll look completely dark and wrong

    Plein air folks could use pochade boxes that won't break the bank because popping them on a tripod is the best of everything but current price points are way out of reach for many.

    Plein air painting always reminds me of the British Sketch show, the fast show when the guy painting starts screaming everytime he uses black paint, things like 'black, black like my soul' and such. So I always smile when I see people painting with the big full set up.
    I love both of those boxes, they are such an awesome idea and I would love to add both to my art supplies. I have lots of parks near me so would be perfect to set up and use there. I have yet to learn to use oils confidently but that set up definitely allows you the freedom to walk around, find inspiration and then get painting. I love the t-shirt and pins too.

    The problem I see with these little pochades is that you end up with tiny paintings. I'm sure the contest is over but I'd spend the $100 on an umbrella for my french easel and a folding stool.

    With $100.00 I would definitely buy a plein air set up. Of course, finding one for left handed people seems to be a little more difficult in the style I am currently drooling over. All the handy supply holders seem to be on the right side which would mean I have to constantly cross over to pick up a new brush or grab a little thinner. That would get annoying real fast.

    Being from Canada, Jerry's website is like a candy store that is always locked. I love the selection, the brands, the sales, the colours, it's really an absolute delight. But because the shipping and handling is easily 100% of the price, it still costs more to buy it than it would in Canada for whatever equivalent brands. With $100 dollars, I would go absolutely nuts with all the things I would have loved to buy for over two years and then just have to be responsible for the shipping costs alone. It would be just like shopping the sales.
    If you could get an actual reasonable price for individuals that's not at the same rate as shipping bulk to stores, that would be amazing. But I've been asking for that for the two years too, and it doesn't seem to be any closer now than it does then. Canada has lousy selections. Art supplies are at a premium here because our art stores know that all the major online shops make shipping so prohibitive that they do not have to compete with online shopping.

    I do enjoy your videos, Mike! I have not yet done any outdoors painting, although I stupidly did invest in one of those French easels, which I can’t carry! I do have a small watercolor kit in that I take with me if I have appointments that take a while - like getting my car serviced. I made a small watercolor palette using a mint tin that look like a Ouija board :) and filled it with half pans of my favorite paints. I carry a postage card size watercolor block, and a water brush. a mini-mister, and a paper towel or tissues. A pencil for sketching and a black liner pen complete my kit, and it fits into a small 4”x6” mesh zipper pouch. If I had the $100 gift card, I’d be looking for that pochade box and taking my Open acrylics out.

    With 100 dollars worth of new art supplies? My wishlist would shrink quite a bit hehe. Mostly I think watercolour supplies, and inks. Those are two mediums I'd love to experiment more with, but a fixed income doesn't stretch very far lol :D Love your videos, they're always a joy to watch, and have neat content that sometimes teaches me things I've never even thought of before. :)

    • @JerrysArtarama
      @JerrysArtarama 7 лет назад +1

      Hi Rob, You don't store tubes in these boxes. You pre squeeze out your paints on to the palette, and there is a spacer designed so that they don't get smushed. Will it fit every medium that you use? Probably not everything, but with two small palette cups you can keep enough solvent and another medium of your choice for at least a painting or two.

    well, I don't want to be a red_headed step child anymore! so with the 100 dollars I would buy paint to see if I can change the color of my hair.

    Probably put a gift card towards an easel...and then have to get rid of furniture to make space

    If I won a $100 I would buy some tubes of watercolor paint (starting with American Journey of course), a new pallet and a couple of brushes.
