Very short history: Floor joined After Forever in 1997 and sang with them until 2008. During that time they did a tour as a support band with Nightwish, but she never sang with Nightwish. From 2009 to 2016 she ran her own band ReVamp. I think that their sound would be more to your taste if you are not a big fan of Nightwish. ReVamp has a heavier sound. She didn't know any of their new songs and was only familiar with their old stuff and she had to learn the songs on the plane trip to Seattle. She was made an official member in 2013, but still toured with her band ReVamp in 2014.
Hi Micha, you're absolutely right about Floor's ability to perform in different genres. She actually found that out when participating in the Dutch TV-show 'Beste Zangers' where she did some amazing songs from other artists, and she liked that enough to participate in the German TV-show 'Sing Meinen Song' when asked. If you want to hear her sing in different genres while making the song her own, they are not on youtube (due to copyright issues) but on other channels on the internet. I can recommend songs like 'Mauern', 'Freunde' and 'Anfassen'. Those are all in German and they show what Floor can actually do.
I hope you will give Nightwish another chance now that Floor is lead vocalist. That will definitely earn a subscribe and continuing likes from me and, I'm certain, MANY other Nightwish lovers!
Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation is self-taught. Went to Conservatorium but chaged into Fashion design for which she has a Bachelors degree and makes her own clothes for the performances she is doing with WT. Floor has 4 years Rock Academy Tilburg (first class/year) with 2 years Conversatorium (1 year Opera and 1 year Musical Theatre)
Floor started out with After Forever, & she states they opened for Nightwish in their early years, that was her only association with them. When After Forever ended she started her own metal band ReVamp, & still had it when Nightwish came calling. You should give them a try, I never cared for Tarja, Floor using operatic moments, she switches genre styles within almost all their songs. During the pandemic, after being on Beste Zangers 2019 she finally got her first solo concert out, & this is her third song dropped from her upcoming album. She just got off the German TV show as Beste Banger. You need to catch up! 🤣
At Hertme , yes that was a wonderful show. And the first time Floor sang Me Without You, for public. So glad I was there to witness that, the whole show was epic !
I would rate this song as my fave from Floor's solo songs to date. And as has been mentioned in several comments I would suggest giving Floor era NW a listen (but do the live versions - it is on another level).
Sharon adel is the singer of wt. floors solostuff is intentionally different from her metalcareer. She said my solostuuf isn’t Metal, it isn’t pop, it’s me… for me the After Forever years are quite fitting het possibilities. In Nightwish she has her own style because she doesn’t want to sound like the former singers. And she does a great job at that… I am a 53 year old metalhead….and Floor makes me cry numerous times. Her voice, interpretation, conveying her feelings, her storytelling is outrageous. In combination with het timbre, technique and personality she wrecks me…. Everytime…. Floor said that contesting the Eurovision songfestival will happen when it suits her agenda. One day she will representing my home country.
Hi! Nightwish Army Brazil. When Tarja was in the band they won the Finnish Eurovision contest by popular vote, but the organizers preferred a folk singer. The song I liked the most of the 3 is Storm. I dont like black metal but, Varg Vikernes/Burzum, Darkthrone and old Mayhem I listen a lot.

Well said. First heard Nightwish with Floor Jansen at Wacken 2013 and she had only been with the band ten months at that time. She was singing all songs written for Tarja and Anette and she nailed every one and improved them all. Floor was always meant for Nightwish and has taken them to a new level. You are really missing something by not listening to Nightwish at Wacken 2013. Floor has already had other records and styles with After Forever, ReVamp and Northward plus working with Arjen Anthony Lucassen on Ayreon and Star One. And guesting with Soilwork, Evergrey and Avantasia.

I was a bit worried to say it out loud, especially because I live in Finland so you could imagine they would automatically be on my playlist. But never was a hit for me, even if I can appreciate the art and technicality that goes into their music. Tuomas is a very skillful songwriter! I totally agree, she is a very versatile singer! 🔥 Amazing vocal technique and strength!

The reason her solo projects are different from how she sings in Nightwish is she will not step on Nightwish Founder Tuomas Holopainen's songwriting turf(she said so in a Dutch interview recently). You mentioned the Within Temptation singer; that would be Dutch Soprano Sharon den Adel. My first taste of Symphonic Metal was Tarja Turunen with Nightwish at her last concert in Finland after which she was dismissed from the band. It made me sad and angry at the same time. Tarja's voice was as close as I had ever heard to Opera which I loved. In fact I didn't watch any more Nightwish until I saw the Wacken Open Air concert with Floor as Frontwoman. I could not believe my ears! This woman was so strong and powerful on the stage, yet she could sing low and soft, down to Contralto on some songs. I'm pretty sure Floor has four octaves(or close enough thereto). I was smitten with her!! IMHO Floor Jansen is the most versatile singer in the Symphonic Metal genre. The only singer I've heard who comes close to Floor is her longtime close friend Dutch Soprano Simone Simons of EPICA. They have two duets with Simone's band you might want to check out. Funny how just two countries have the greatest singers; Holland and the Philippines.
Well, try "Yours is an empty hope" live at Wembley 2015, "Slaying the Dreamer", "I Want My Tears Back" or "The Devil and The Deep Dark Ocean" live from Buenos Aires 2018. "Song of Myself" and "Storytime" from Wacken 2013.... "Tribal" from Hellfest 2022 ... She definitely brings a more gritty style to the band, while maintaing some opera elements alive... But not in this overstated and overused way that tarja did back then. Also Tarja's accent and her movements on stage were a little cheesy at times 😁 I loved nightwish back then. I did give Annette a chance, but just... Couldn't find it fitting. However... The Annette stuff sung by floor is just crazy amazing.
Ngl at first sight I thought you were Jinjer's Tatiana, you look like her twin or at least her sister, and like other comments say you should give Nightwish another shot with Floor as their singer, especially with their newest album, it's quite heavy and dark.
