There's a lens test done by Ctein (well known tech writer back in the day) comparing the PS lenses with their Zeiss counterparts and the Bronica lenses were sharper shot wide open.
I just stumbled on your channel, as I'm putting up y Hasselblad 500C/Mfor sale so I can pick up a Bronica SQAi. Thank you for your video for dispelling a few remaining doubts about my move. Reason I'm giving up my 1974 Hasselblad is so I can (hopefully) get a brighter screen for focusing with the newer SQAi. And I get a 3 lenses, 2 backs, prism finder for the Hasselblad with 1 lens, prism finder, and 2 backs.
If you don't need mid roll film change the model C is a good option. Without the removable backs it is simpler and has less concerns for light leaks from worn seals etc.
It looks like a very enjoyable format to be shooting in. It’s a beautiful camera too, the value will most likely rise in the future, considering how rare they are. Nice! 🤙🏼
I shot pro with my SQAm and it's not just 6x6. you can get the focusing screen with markings for vertical and horizontal 645 and just compose within those lines. It wastes a little film but often I ended up tweaking the 645 up and down in the darkroom. Like moving your crop in Photoshop/LR.
Can we see a couple of high res crops of your shots? I have an SQ with the same 80mm but I think something is off with my back because some shots are much softer than I expected, or maybe my expectations are too high?
5-10 years? This camera has been around for over 30 years before reaching you, I'm sure you can take good enough care of it to make it last way longer than just an additional decade ;) It's a beautiful camera and your photos are too: good match!
I have this camera also. In fact, I have two SQ-A's. One of the bodies I got was cheap because the owner wanted to get rid of it and I only paid $38.00 for it. It was missing parts, but I am working on 3d printing the crank handle and battery box lid. After cleaning the body-only unit it works great in my static tests. I have designed a waist-level viewfinder and will be testing printing that in a few days. The other Bronica I have is the AM version which is really nice also. I love how it fits in my hand when I am holding it. I have one film back that produces a 6x4.5 format as the Mamiya M645 series. The 80mm 2.8 lens is all I have at this time, but I will be looking for a wide angle and a little longer lens in the future to round off my system.
You should look into the PS lenses they are much sharper and have better contrast. I have the 80mm and the 40mm PS lenses for my SQ-A and they are quite nice.
main difference between the prism & waist-level is the effect on a human subject, putting them more @ ease. Long ago i got a Rollieflex TLR 4 greater resolution, waist-level viewing & shooting thru a bright "analogue" screen. I've had them on & off over the yrs but because they're too hard 2 accessorise & ltd in scope I sold them on. They were uber-cool antique tho. Eventually I got an (original) SQ .. only thing I've shot so far .. is "me feet🤣😂🤣 .. another story / another time. At the moment I use an old Sekonic light-meter, SQ being manual .. sooo, I'm scoping a "chimney finder" with built-in TTL metering. Also step up of PS from S lenses a revelation rendering Hasselblad vs Bronica debate moot. Am concerned the age of my well-used one tho I had it CLA'd. I think nxt time I'll source from Japan. Their fastidiousness speaks 4 itself.
Hi, I bought one just yesterday. Is it normal that when you frame from the cockpit the image rotates in the opposite direction to how you move the camera?
one point about the Prism finder, it Does have a place, when adding a "speed grip" to the camera, this allows 'eye-level' viewing and morphes this into an slr style handling experience, the speed grip adds convenience, with the winder (two stroke), but speeds up shooting, esp. with the metered prism, so even for a square format, this adds the meter, so making this more at home with street photography, this gives apature priority, so a 'point & shoot', or as close as you can get for an MF slr camera.
Just come across this video so apologies if you have already addressed this point, you stated that Hasselblads create beautiful images? No, you create the beautiful images the camera simply records them. Other than that one issue this is a really good video, that LTD version of the SQA is one good looking camera. I picked up the SQAi a couple of months back, really happy with it, the kit I bought came with 2 x 120 back, the 80mm and 50mm PS lenses, a speed grip and AE prism finder which is great as it means that I have a built in meter if I want to have a big lump of camera in my hand. I have since added the 150mm PS lens which is a nice range and just helps compress landscapes a bit as this is my photography genre. As for scanning I use an Epson V600 which is giving good results. If you are going to continue using your Fuji to scan images it might be worth you looking at the ETRS range which would give you a similar format neg as the Fuji sensor so minimal if any cropping, the camera is also considerably smaller and works well with a prism finder and speed grip. Good luck using the Bronica look forward to more videos.
great points, thanks for sharing ! I agree, the photographer creates the images but I just meant the hasselblads were good cameras haha. the 150 is something i've been eyeing for those purposes as well. I've considered the etrs but I might pick up a point and shoot 645 so i can switch between portrait and landscape more easily. cheers :)

lots of fun for sure!

Are all the SQ-As Limited edition or just the ones with the brown leather?
love the shots you shared! thanks for this video
thank you ! :)

wow that sounds like a fun project! 3d printing seems incredibly useful for broken or rare parts that are expensive/tough to find 🙂

what did you use for scanning?
Thank you for the video ! Did you replaced the leather cover by yourself? Have a nice day.
this one is a limited version that came like this :)
@@andrepel Thank you, have fun with your Bronica, I have a 645 Bronica ETRSI, a pleasure to use.

yes it is
Nikon owners will like the Bronica because the controls turn in the same direction. The other brands turn in the opposite direction.
