I just hope Andy serkis can one day win his long deserved Oscar
I thought he won one for his Gollum from the first films no?
@@Jizzlewobbwtfcus He did yeah there was that whole Gollum Wins an Award with it too :)
I thought he won for gollum?
For those wondering no, Andy serkis has won many individual awards for his roles but he has never won a Oscar
Doesn't really matter, all these awards are arbitrary and mostly pointless. As a wise man once said, I am paraphrasing: _You want to augment the award by having it be given to you, not have the award augment you by having received it_
FAN---absolutely--TASTIC!!! My only issue is, Please bring out the new films quickly because I'm 86 and need my LOTR fix!
How many years have you been a fan? I suck at math but i guess you were around your teens when the books were published?
If you have some Numenorian ancestry you can consider yourself a young buck.
These are certainly interesting times for us Tolkien fans ...
Man I would absolutely kill for a Peter Jackson version of Children of Hurin.
Children. Turin's sister Niënor plays quite an important role in the story!
@@sultanoswing My bad, thanks for the clarification
Thats another trilogy
yeah too bad they dont have the rights
@@joeeykful I think it could be made in a long movie, it would be the best... But it may be a tough story to pitch for cinema. It's not exactly happy.
I wonder if it will be a "double hunt" storyline, where we see both Aragorn etc. And the Nazgul/Sauron camp hunting for Gollum...as Gandalf said, " I looked everywhere for the creature Gollum, but the enemy found him first..."
for sure that shall be one of the story line, and ending with the war at thranduil's gate , thats how gollum escaped
Pretty good chapter to write on
Dont know how theyll have Viggo return as Aragorn since he has age quite a bit since RotK.
@@Cloofinderhonestly I hope he doesn't come back, not because I don't like him, it's because he is far too different from Book Aragorn, which got a more Mediterranean look, have no beard and have utterly black hair and Grey eyes, good actors like this can be found easily. As for the aging factor, Book Aragorn was 88 years old during the War of the Ring, but since he was one of the Dunedain he looked like some 37 years old man.
@Cloofinder they have had people come back and look younger through digital means. It's not hard to do as long as the CGI is done right.
I’m quite ready for another middle earth adventure 👍🏻😁
ye its really badly potrayed in the movies, they make it seem like its 3 months ago Lmao.
@@maltezz nope.

@@gforce1754 why would it be though? Its not Amazon.
I think people who've only seen the movies and not read the books don't know that there's 17 years between Bilbo's party and Frodo leaving the Shire.
Haven't read the books either, but I've binged most of the videos from Nerd of the Rings. Other folks might have done the same or atleast caught up lore wise through wiki pages, etc. Take that into your consideration :)
yeah altho the 'hunt for gollum' begins way before bilbo leaves the shire iirc
Yes but Gollums journey isn't interesting enough to go into detail to. Tolkien streamlined it very much because it's inconsequential. He runs, he gets captured, he runs, he gets captured
@@pikablu_25 yeah at best you could really focus on the relationship between Gandalf and Aragon as they were both searching for him but that's contingent on getting both Vigo and Ian to come back which IDK I see as somewhat unlikely but with Peter directing could happen.
@@pikablu_25 He also eats babies.
Compared to the muppets from Rings of Power, you know for sure that Andy Serkis has actually read the books and will definitely not disappoint. He's an incredible creative mind and I am beyond excited!
I love rings of power
I just want to see Gollum refusing to come down from the tree in Mirkwood. I just really find that funny for some reason.
"We doesn't take orders from filthy Elveses, does we, Precious?"
Hearing that Andy Serkis is taking a central role in this project gives me confidence it will be done well.
Me too Andy is awesome i trust him.
ONE WAY OUT
Im a huge fan of his but hes the guy behind venom 2 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hes a great actor, but his directing has just been awful IMO.
I think Andy is a great actor and mocap artist but as a director he is awful. He is the genius that brough us Venom: Let There Be Carnage 🤢

@@softdorothy, TTT was just so-so
Andy Serkis’ narration of The Hobbit (audiobook) is simply amazing! His voice is so versatile and brings new life to the stories. I have just started listening to him reading LOTR. Although I have read these many times, I am thoroughly enjoying hearing him read them - experiencing the tales in a different way! I think he will do justice by Tolkien and I am glad to see that he will be directing this film. Definitely excited for it!
He also does a superb job narrating The Silmarillion..you can tell just by his grasp of Tolkien that he has what it takes to direct this coming film in good standard...lets just hope the studio gives him the creative space...
HAPPY THAT AMAZON WONT TOUCH THIS
If you use exclamation marks along with you capitals, you will get even more attention for you popular opportunism.
I have a feeling the second movie will either be The War of the North(Erebor besieged by Easterlings and Dol Guldur assault Mirkwood and Lothlorien)or Balin expedition to reclaim Moria.
I hope war in the North cause it'll be cool to see and they can bring back the actors from the hobbit
This would be freakin insane
War in the North would be interesting if they bring back Radaghast and perhaps Elronds sons!
@@Cloofinder they adapt from the appendices and the game
They kinda half assed that war in The Hobbit so this would give them a chance to do the full on one
I just wish we could get a Peter Jackson Beren and Luthien trilogy. Like a proper one that rivals the LOTR trilogy. A man can only dream though
One of my favorite stories of the first age.
Independent online cinema made a 40 minute fanfilm of the same title like 15 years ago. They definitely deserve a mention.

Looking forward to this continuation of the Lord of the Rings films. I am so pleased to hear Peter Jackson, Phillipa Boyens and Fran Walsh will be at the helm as well as Andy Serkis of course! Should be another epic movie! ❤
The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen always leaves me in very manly masculine tears.
Andy Serkis IS Gollum. There is nobody better to steer a Gollum project than him. Hell yes!
Why? He's a great physical actor, but he absolutely does not have the skills or experience to be more than that

I have confidence that Andy Serkis will do everything in his power to do it justice! He knows the source material and we know that for a fact seeing as he’s the voice for Tolkien’s work in audiobooks! He’s also an excellent storyteller and director. I have no doubt that he’ll go into this project with his love for Tolkien and also Tolkien’s fans at heart.
Why would they do a film all about Gollum. An entire Universe of interesting and film worthy stories and they go back to Gollum?
we saw what happened with the rings of power, Tolkien estate doesn't give full access to the entire lore so they can't adapt it properly. By doing this, it's a rather safe story with interesting stuff that isn't incredibly detailed and isn't stretched out over hundreds of years.
The crazy thing is: The Hunt for Gollum (2009) was an extremely well made No Budget Movie about the same topic. They aren't even doing something new
The easy answer is he's one of the most popular and well known characters.
I’m honestly tired of Gollum stuff. Still excited about the upcoming film. Wish they would step away from Gollum.
@@mexicutioner5882 I understand them not giving out the full lore, at this point any media depiction of the LOTR is worrisome. But a story about the life of Aragorn would be awesome. The war between the dwarves and orcs. So many other interesting topics.
People really need to do a better job of READING.
ITS NOT A LOTR REMAKE AND ITS NOT ONLY ABOUT GOLLUM.
The key word in the article is “centered”, NOT “focused” or “following”. Which means its about the HUNT FOR Gollum, not only about Gollum. This opens up a realm of possibilities such as including more stories and events that include Gandalf and Aragorn, Thranduil perhaps etc.
Im excited.
Also we dont know what the 2nd movie could be about! I personally hope the Angmar War but lets see!
Peter Jackson and his team have earned the right for cautious optimism.
Super excited about this news! 🤩
it's time to stretch our marathon times! I am so happy
Appreciate the recap, I wasn't going to have time for the whole 3-hour stream.
With Andy Serkis directing it should be really good.
Based on what exactly? The guy just doesn't have the experience for large projects
When I initially heard...terrified. When I saw it was PJ, Serkis and the rest of the team coming back....absolutely stoked. I would love to see Viggo return and somehow be aged down for Aragorn. As well as the rest of our loved cast.
YES!!! We are blessed to have them doing another movie
So excited about this!
How exciting!!!
I'm worried. The reason the original movies were so good is because of the incredible source material and the fact that they had almost a decade to prepare and film them. I honestly don't trust modern writers after the garbage that was Rings of Power...

Very happy and excited about this wonderful news 🥰 The best part of it IMO is that Phillipa Boyens and Fran Walsh will be back, too. What would we do without their amazing writing skills?
Alfred Hitchcock once said: "To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script."
In an age where huge IPs are being destroyed by studios.... I don't know how I feel about this honestly. A big part of me wants to leave LOTR alone due the horrible streak of reviving IPs. My problem with this film as a concept.... we know how it ends. The basic film watchers know that Gollum, Gandalf, the Ring, Sauron, etc. are in the LOTR trilogy. So the stakes are already lowered. I don't know if this is a story worth telling. But again, I trust Peter and Andy. So we'll see...... I'm scared though. How much control will they have, who's idea was it to make a Gollum focused film, how is production going to go, like a unicorn LOTR trilogy, or a rushed Hobbit? So many questions.
Wondering if we'll have a scene with Bilbo and Gandalf...where G tries (succeeds) to coax out of Bilbo the whole story of how he got the ring...and his conversations with Gollum. We also know that Gollum was indeed captured...and kept with Thranduil's people in Mirkwood (they ultimately failed to keep him there).
Ready to go, let's trust in Peter and Andy!
That backfired with the hobbit
I guess you liked the Hobbit trilogy?
@@NakulaKaufman it was alright, nothing on LoTR I will admit. The first hobbit was top tier tho, tho other 2 let down the franchise
@@GZP1023that was less Peter’s doing and more studio interference, you could tell that he was clearly overwhelmed by the project in behind the scenes material
They(Warner Brothers) COPYRIGHT CLAIMED the fan film. This sucks, the film was good and they did them dirty.
I’m hoping it gets reinstated. I could easily see it being a lower-level employee doing claims (or even an automated system) without regard for the unique situation. Sounds like that film’s director is reaching out to WB through the claim process, so hopefully it gets put back up
@@NerdoftheRings hopefully, I really liked the gandalf on that film 😔
How could that happen if the makers of the fan film weren't making a profit off of it? Were they really making money on it or does that even matter under a copyright? I thought you could do such things as long as you weren't profiting from them.
@@L1623VP they got the permission to film from the tolkien estates for the film as long as they are a non profit and they are.

Actually, they recently took down original fan made movie from YT... shame on you WB!!
It's back up.
Patiently waiting for The Children of Hurin to be brought to the big screen. One of my favorites stories in all of Tolkien's legendarium.
I'm obvs excited for more LOTR, but I fail to see how they can make a whole film about Aragorn looking for Gollum
There will probably be also Gollum in Mirkwood storyline with battle at Thranduil gates at the end (the one when Gollum escaped) + they can add more Gollum flashbacks and probably show another storyline with Sauron looking for Gollum
Yeah don't quite know how they can make a big budget full length movie about this event.
You can't, but looking at everyone's excitement in the comments, I'm sure people are going to go out in droves and throw their money at it.
So yeah. It doesn't really matter that the movie is going to kinda suck; it's gonna be very profitable.
As long as Jackson goes into this film as he did the original trilogy and not The Hobbit, then I'm going to be very excited.
So you mean as long as the studio doesn't meddle too much.
@@LunatheLightFury I also believe that the studio forced Jackson to make the Hobbit into a trilogy where as it should have been two films and cut out the made up stuff
Wasn't he brought in at the last minute? I'm pretty sure he wasn't originally involved with the Hobbit films.
@@ltils9081it was meant to be guillermo del toro
I know people have confidence in Sirkus, but he was the second director on the LOTR series, and with Jackson not directing or being at the helm of this film, I'm concerned. I'm afraid 25 years after the original Fellowship film, this return to Middle Earth is going to go woke like other recent iterations.
Really appreciate you summarising the news for us!
SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!! I've always thought that Smeagol/Gollum is such a crucial part of the LOTR story, can't wait for this and I have high hopes given who is making the movie :)
Glad you mentioned the appendices! The tale of Aragorn and Arwen has the potential to be an epic film and love story in the vein of Gone With The Wind, but with a happier ending (unless they end with Aragorn's death and Arwen's grief)
So it will have to feature Gandalf, Aragorn, Galadriel, Thranduil, Legolas possibly even Tauriel. Very interesting
Elrond
Beorn
I wonder if they will bring back some of the original actors if they could? Or will they likely completely recast?
They could bring in Tauriel and then kill her off at the end, then it would make sense why she never turns up in LOTR.
@@DrNickRiviera995 I would rather they not have Tauriel. Galadriel or Arwen would make more sense.
@@joshuajohansen1210 Right. They need to go back to honoring the original Tolkein lore. Tauriel was unnecessary in The Hobbit, but some studio heads apparently felt the films needed some "girl power" and "romance". That's why I'm not hopeful about this new film. I'm concerned it's not going to be faithful to the original trilogy and turn into a commercial for wokeness.
The hunt for gollum short film was done on youtube back in 2009... look it up... I wonder if they got the inspiration from it.
I was wondering the same thing.
They probably did get inspiration from it. And then decided to copyright strike them and make it their own. Scummy company
Very excited!!!
It's good to hear that Warner Bros is stepping up here. Amazon's take on ME is horrifically atrocious.
Yay!!!!! Oh, this makes me so very happy.
Please don't turn LotR into Star Wars/Marvel..
Yeah
Why not? How would that have any effect of the things already released?
Woke stuff and attempting to make female empowerment will make it worse.
This seems more curated
Yes, too much of a good thing is a bad thing, not to mention how those films went woke in the process. I'm not hopeful at this news as it seems politics takes precedence over artistic integrity these days.
I don't think the Gollum story alone would make a strong enough story to carry the movie; there's not much of a story there. It would at least have to be combined with more material. Keep in mind that Aragorn said he never had anything out of Gollum's mouth except his teeth marks as he took him north to the elves, so no interesting dialogue is to be found there. A bucket of water poured over the stinky Gollum would be one of the few scenes that could happen. Also remember that Gandalf at first searched with Aragorn for Gollum before be abandoned the search and went to Minas Tirith to read about the One Ring written by Isildur, so there's room for Gandalf in this story. Aragorn also gave up the search and was headed home when he found Gollum's tracks in the mud, and captured him. If they want to make a stronger story the hunt for Gollum should only be a small part of the movie, the bulk of it being the life of Aragorn - his early life in Imladris with the sons of Elrond and learning the ways of the Rangers, learning about his heritage, going to Harad and Rhun, serving in Rohan and Gondor and the friction with a young Denethor, his relationship with Arwen, and if they develop his life as King and death and Arwen dying in Lorien they'd have enough material for 2-3 movies. But most important is to not deviate or leave out what the book says. It's one thing to create original material as Thorongil and his travels around Middle-earth, but messing with the book never works out well.
True. The hunt for Gollum is too thin on details to build a three-hour film around. That's why I'm concerned they'll fill in those big gaps with events and perhaps even characters that aren't congruent with Tolkein lore. I'm also concerned now, 25 years after the Fellowship film, any new films will put politics and wokeness before artistic integrity and continuity with the previous films.
More content is always a good thing. Can’t wait!

I am ecstatic! Thank you for sharing.
I feel well from what you said the same way you do if not more excited then you are.
I love that we are get more LOTR Movies/Shows right now.
I'm answering your question.
I'm full of concerns about this movie. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is the best film in the history of cinema for many people, including me, but for one most important reason: it's the story behind it. Jackson had a ready-made story written by Tolkien, which he faithfully adapted to the screen (with small changes, sometimes good, sometimes bad). For this film, he will have to write an original script, and that will be a problem. Geniuses like Tolkien are born once every hundred years, maybe even less often, so it will be very difficult to write an original story in the world of Arda that would match the level of the stories invented by the Professor. A worthy story of this world could be written by... someone like Tolkien himself, and with all due respect to Jackson, he is not him. In the case of The Hunt for Gollum, as in probably no other film, the script will be the most important. If the story falters, if it falls apart at the seams, then even if the other components of this film were of the highest standard (and I am sure they will be), the film will be a failure. In the case of films set in a world invented by my beloved author, there is and will not be any indulgence
To stay in the third age, they could have adapted the wars of arnor and angmar. The hunt for golum is mini series at best.
Mildly excited...
So excited about this!!
It would be great addition to the movies of lotr as long as the trio doesn’t do what they did with Hobbit movies which was elongate just for the sake of …more movies . If doing hunt for the ring they can be canonical and be faithful to books then it’ll be worth it for me as a book fan to watch . If they made the movies with as much love and care for the books as the trilogy I would be excited . If they redo another hobbit mess I would have reservations . And I won’t get into Rings of Power which I did not watch nor plan to
I feel ur pain! Same for me.
The Hobbit was originally slated to be 2 films not 3, you can blame the Studios for that.
Studio Interference was to blame, Peter was overwhelmed by the demands, also bad plot points like Kili x Tauriel for example was one of their ideas, and not his.
I appear to be dreading this more than most people.
Yep me too
Me too. The Hobbit trilogy left a bad taste in my mouth.

Im also thinking this is gonna be trash too.
Hollywood has been trash lately, true. Still though Andy Sirkis did FANTASTIC in Andor, which was decent overall, and his Golum has always been excellent. Golum isn’t what’s wrong with The Hobbit movies. Some cool stuff must have happened during the hunt for Golum and it should be easy enough to not just trash the canon like in Rings of Power. Andy Sirius also did amazing work on the LOTR audiobooks. He really loves Tolkien and I think he’ll do a decent enough job.
Sadly I agree. Hollywood has poorly handled my favorite IPs
Totally. And PJ lost my credit after the Hobbit. I fear another disaster.
Viggo Mortensen would be older than Ian McKellen was when he played Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings movies... how does that work?
If they can de-age Sam Jackson for all of Captain Marvel, they can do it for Viggo.

I see your middle earth strategy battle game box in the background! Bravo!
When I saw the dynamic trio, the three musketeers, the holy trinity, would be returning to Middle Earth I screamed with excitement. I’m sure anything that Peter, Fran, and Phillipa put their minds to will be outstanding. Especially with Andy Serkis. But I couldn’t help feeling a bit underwhelmed when I saw the “working title” The Hunt for Gollum. It felt like there wasn’t much to tell. We know what happens, how it starts, and how it ends. All we’d be getting is a small time frame of possibly interesting dialogue, cool character appearances, and awesome Middle Earth action. All that alone is amazing, but it’s the area of story that they’re going with that can’t help feeling milked from a story we already know so well, that being the War of the Ring time frame. I feel it would be more appealing for something new within the third age era. War in the North, Young Aragorn, or even the Angmar Wars. I also worry about modern agenda pushing and the manipulation of Tolkiens works in order to pander to a minority of people. I feel that won’t be the case here, but I still worry. Of course I’m all aboard the Peter Jackson train and can’t wait for the movie to come out. I just have questions.
Well, as the Nerd said, this is only a working title, and I'm certain the final will be much different.
I know what you mean about the modern agenda, but that didn't really show in the original LOTR so I expect the same here.

Very excited!
I do hope they‘re filming the story about luthien and beren!🤩
Omg wow this is actually lotr exciting.
Also wonder if they’ll do Scouring of the Shire?
I'm sorry but THAT is the best they can come up with? Also a fan already did it a few years ago. I guess I'm just ready to see something from the Silmarillion OR..........even though it's very unpopular to say because "real " Tolkien fans all hate the adaption but I am very much a real fan and would love for someone like the director of the animated Beowulf and Christmas Carol to make an epic animated adaption trilogy like the Ralph Bakshi film which is criminally underrated despite it staying more true to Fellowship than the Jackson version. I'm just saying, I know it's illegal to criticize those films but the 1978 film has a special place in my heart and introduced many other people to Tolkien. Give it a fair watching if you have never seen it!
Very excited, honestly!
Thanks!
