    Watching this as a native English speaker (for general language-learning advice). Very interesting observations - especially about the connected words. I never really thought about "how" we do that. Your English is really, really good by the way. I would have taken you for a native. Well done.

      Thank you so much! It is indeed interesting how adult learners of any language have to break down something natives do automatically :) That's exactly why being a native speaker doesn't automatically make you a good language teacher

    Dipping back in here after watching your videos with a sense of awe for sometime. Definitely a little less South African sounding and now very, very close to native southern English in terms of accent, to the extent I think it is only very, very subtle things that someone might pick up on that might make them think you weren't native English. Or that you'd lived abroad for sometime. But very subtle.

    Inna, what would you advice for people who are advanced in English but lack speaking practice? I would imply that my level is B2 or C1 but since I lack speaking practice I feel that my progress could be better. I read a lot, listen a lot, even pick up the vocabulary but in rare cases when I do have an opportunity to speak English I know I would have done way better had I had speaking practice before. Are there any excercises that I could do at home to at least imitate some speaking practices? Problems given in the textbooks are too easy. Thank you!

    • @innainenglish
      @innainenglish  Месяц назад +1

      I know exactly what you're talking about! Very similar to my situation with German. Unfortunately, there is no sulver bullet. In order to be able to SPEAK, you need to SPEAK. Speaking to yourself helps, too. You can record your thoughts in the language in the voice recording app on your phone for example, or talk to AI :) However, I would really recommend using websites like conversationexchange or italki and talk to real people.

    Thanks for the video! I did vocabulary test (1st link) but it didn’t show me how many words (approximately) i know. It only showed the percentage of level(2000 words - level 1). Is it wrong or I just don’t know how to use it 🤔

    • @innainenglish
      @innainenglish  Месяц назад +1

      Yes, you're right. On this webpage you can only see approximately how many words (words families) you know passively. You're not going to see how many words you know exactly (and that would be impossible to assess) but you can gauge it by checking how many correct answers you have in each section. For example, if you did everything correctly in the 2000 and 3000 sections, but only part of the 5000 section, you can estimate your vocabulary size at around 4000 word families. That's just an estimation of course, because no vocabulary test could tell you exactly how many words you know. I would also say the test might underestimate your knowledge or be mistaken because it's made for native speakers rather than learners

    Hi, Inna!
    What do you think about Old English sources? I've started to play Final Fantasy XIV not a long time ago but dialogues there use a lot of Old English words like 'thy', 'thee', 'thou' etc. You're telling that we should read/watch/listen a bit more higher than current level. So, should I focus on this Old / Middle English to improve it or I should focus more on modern one?
    From Russia. With love :)

    • @innainenglish
      @innainenglish  Месяц назад +1

      Depends on what you'd like to achieve! When I talk about fluency, I always mean modern spoken English. I don't see any value in Old English for myself, in terms of teaching, career prospects, networking etc. But that's just me and you may have a completely different idea of what kind of English you want to speak
