well, i'm also quite satisfied with the JDXI, it has all 808/909/707/727/606/626 sounds, even if the muting of instruments can only be controlled by pressing the keyboard button plus the volume/volume control. But the pad/brass sounds are great and you get great chords, even if pressing the cutoff control when changing the pattern is not optimal, I have come to terms with it. 64 step patterns are great plus the polyphony and great for elaborating on ideas. It also runs wonderfully in connection with several devices. I bought it cheaper this year than returning it from Thomann and I'm quite satisfied.
That sounds very good! Hope Kraftwerk didn't mind you almost cloning the sounds. Very good version. I first got inspired by Kraftwerk during a Latitude festival and got hooked on analogue synths. If only I could afford one.
I sold mine. While it is a really cool little machine, it just has too many shortcomings. Far too much of its functionality is buried deep in menu diving, and can only be accessed by hammering endlessly on the tiny, miserable rubber menu buttons. The keybed is the cheapest, most fragile piece of garbage Roland has ever made. They use "live" plastic hinges, and the keys break easily from regular use. Look on the various online forums for this synth and you will find people complaining about broken keys everywhere you go. The mod and pitch wheels are so tiny with such little travel, that they are almost impossible to use. The "analog" voice is really just a gimmick, has severe limitations and is not integrated well into the rest of the synth. It's a real shame, because the vocoder is pretty good, the sequencer is entirely usable, and the digital and drum engines are excellent. I ended up replacing mine with a Fantom-06.
Thank you, the JD-Xi is a wonderful synthesizer , when i first listened to Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene 3 Album i felt sure the album could have been created using it, althought i knew that it was its bigger brother the JD-XA and System8 synthesizers
Paolo this is a masterpiece and I never thought this synth could sound so good. My only musical comment is that in the original version of Radioactivity by Kraftwerk the blips in the intro are actually the Morse Code (dits dahs) for the word “Radioactivity” otherwise everything is spot on as usual. You are so incredibly talented with this gear. 🔥
Thanks, the patches are ok but you have to perform with them. What you don't see in this video is the right hand playing live, and the vocoder. I played this set of patches at a Kraftwerk-themed Knobcon a few years ago ---> ruclips.net/video/Fvau0AHta0c/видео.html where I use the patches as intended.
Does anyone know where to get decals or overs to make the interface more readable? I have the red on black version, this JDXI looks so much more crisp. Is it like a reissure or something? Also, wouldn't this go great with a Beatstep Pro? Seems like you could sequence the sequencer and get fun poly rhythms going and what not...
The decal came in the box when you buy the synth new. If you have an old version, or bought it used, you can probably reach out to Roland, and they should be able to tell you how to get one
@SynthManiaDotCom If I downloaded it, it comes with a backup folder with 2 files, one bin and one svd, but when I load them into the Roland it gives me an error. and another extra folder with folders from s to z but they are empty, can you tell me how I do it, thanks
@@MegaDavidrobles Look at the comments in this thread of the ones who loaded it correctly. You can direct-message them if they still have the JD-Xi to help you. Unfortunately I no longer have this synth so I can't test this.
The weird thing is, I had occasion to imagine this was one of the things a synthesizer was supposed to do. After I began learning to play them myself, I then noticed that the sequencers and arpeggiators were being so frequently utilized, I started losing my taste for it. I’ve now released eight solo projects under my true name (Eric Benjamin Gordon), and only the eponymous first one includes any form of sequencing, looping or arpeggiators. I prefer playing synthesizer and any triggered drums with my own hands.
Every synth nut should have a JDXi! Thanks very much for the patches and putting your spotlight on this wonderful machine.

I saw the Computer Love tour at Hammersmith Odeon back in the day. A great gig.
Yeah! 😃 thanks Paolo! A video on your thoughts of the JD-Xi overall? Maybe in your spare time? 😮
Nice looking black version. I have a white version. Nice job Paolo. 2:21 💗💗💗💗💗💗
wow for free? dude nice! thank you!

Thank you for these great patches Paolo!
This was (still have it) my first synth, glad to see it get some love
That was really cool. I wouldn’t mind a JD-XI eventually.
It´s a really cool little machine. The drums is awesome and it´s vocoder is great to have if you, like me, can´t sing.

@@ScottsSynthStuff Thank you for your review. You probably saved some of us some misery.

But the sounds and drums are very good, and especially the arranger function in the sequencer, which I miss in the FA-06
@@ScottsSynthStuff have one and find it great although I find the Vocoder on the Novation Mini Synth way superior

You could simply have scrolled over my comment, @Spring Spring, instead of being rude.
Thank you, @Spring Spring. All I did was type something I felt like sharing.
Thank you Paolo!
