    I have a question. I grew up in the 80s. Do y'all remember this weird thing our older people used to do... Refuse to drive after dark? It's starting to make sense. House locked up tighter than fort Knox and car not going nowhere. Do we need to start being like that? What a shame. Wish they had told us it was to help keep us alive instead of being so secretive about it. "It's almost dark... Chile. I can't be out here too much longer..."

      @HiLLBiLLY666 not exactly. Do not even ask for a ride to or from anywhere.
      But I guess I can understand "nobody better not knock on the door after the lights out, because you sure ain't getting in", now that I'm older.

      What hurts me is how we have to do that because of our own. This is why every street gang, and beef needs to be squashed right now, and we should be getting on the same dang page.

      @@smoovebaca3385 There must be a real name for it. There is no way a mailing address will include this on its label. After a very brief search, I could not find this information on the net. If you know something we all should know, tell us. What is the official name of this town?
      I live in VA. I have always felt safe. Honestly. There are towns not very far away I wouldn't be caught in after dark, but only because it's dark and big possums with sharp pointy teeth are out there. I never heard they were sundown towns.
      I even vacationed in an old old town. I thought it was romantic. Some old quiet town with a farm nearby. Lol . Middle of nowhere, Virginia. The only wild thing out there was the thunderstorm. It filled the entire sky! It was beautiful. Definitely was in by sundown. No place to be but in. I probably will never do it again, not after what has been in the news lately.
      I saw Poquoson had been on that list, but I never read a black person got lost and found dead there. So I am not sure that is still valid. Is Poquoson still a sundown town? Hm. There was that one time I was there and picked up on an ugly vibe. Unfriendly, uncharitable, disdainful, but tolerating. Eee. Unsmiling, but tolerating. No person-to-person connection. A weird sort of hate. Racism is weird. Strange. Is that the town you are referring to?

    I grew up in a Sundown town, Greensburg Indiana. Not sure if it was ever a written law but everybody said it was the law. Teachers, parents, even the police. I moved to the next county over for the fifth grade. In about 1970 or 71, a friend of mine who was Black was the singer in a band and they were offered a gig at the YMCA I think. Had to cancel, since, his parents wouldn't let him go. Now in about 1984 or 85, the local Kmart hired a Black manager and apparently there were complaints from customers, so he was transferred. Now back to the singer, I ended up joining a band with him and when we played at South Decatur, which was halfway in between and very rural, they almost worshiped him!!! Which I feel is another type of racism.

    Vidor was bad many years ago, I live in Beaumont which is about 20 miles away from Vidor. You might have been scared because of all the old tales but it is truly not that way any more. There was a black man that was fairly poor that was given housing in Vidor along with several black families. The test went off great and I didn't remember any of the folks (the media liked to hound them regularly) having any racial issues. The fella was in Beaumont visiting friends and was murdered by a black man. I might could find his name if anyone is interested.

    Ok so the confederate flag has a bad reputation, but it doesn't mean racism. Actually Ole Glory is the real culprit of racism, because the civil war was really about northern aggression. There are a lot of black people who fly the stars and bars because they know that it's the actual middle finger to the government. If people would just read, slavery was abolished in the northern states after the south. The civil war wasn't about freeing the slaves at all, but it was a tactic used against the Confederacy while at the same time there were slaves in the union state. History is written by the conquerors. And there are more sundown towns in the north than you think.

    • @carmens3685
      @carmens3685 10 месяцев назад

      Talk about "ole glory" if ya wanna. But the Confederate flag is the EPITOME of racist symbolism. The whole REASON for another flag was to secede from the union and make a new country to have their own slavery. They didn't just want to "open some restaurants". Ok?

    • @user-ut1en2lt8l
      @user-ut1en2lt8l 29 дней назад
