Listen, this was another great documentary by Morgan, but everyone, and I mean everyone already knew all of these things. They simply ignore it. I think it's cool what he did and brought exposure to this giant business, but in the end people can only blame themselves. I eat fast food way, way too often and I'm not blaming the restaurants that I decide to get in my car and go to that I gained some weight or will eventually have health issues. I know how chicken gets crispy, and the mass products they buy and ship out fast. It's fast food. What do you expect? The real problem is with powerhouses destroying the little guy's life. It makes sense that they don't want to lose money. But, to ruin people's lives over it or to basically force the businesses to be unethical is THE issue.
You *knew* that farmers were indentured servants? You *knew* chickens were being bred to be slaughtered in 6 weeks and couldn't even walk? You *knew* that "free range" doesn't even mean they ever went outside? Sorry, I call bullshit: not everyone knew that.

It ends up turning into a bulk, reproducing product for most of them eventually. And, the sympathy goes out the window with that. There's been so much information shoved down the throats of people for decades. Not knowing any of that is complete BS. If someone didn't know farm bred animals aren't treated wonderfully, then they're idiots. You don't have to know the entire business to know that. Just like dog breeders. The blame isn’t in you or me. I am afraid to turn this political but we all have jobs and lives that get busy so we do what is easy and convenient for the peripheral things in life. That is where your vote matters, we need to get the right people in office so they can represent the chicken farmers or other small businesses.

I think the message went completely over my head, sandwich looked good and the farm conditions were fantastic especially when compared to a commercial chicken farm or cattle ranch.

Being concerned about how these animals are treated before being killed is IMPORTANT. Everyone (most) people want to be healthy. They want to look and feel GOOD. "You are what you eat" if you are complacent with these animals not being able to move, not seeing the outdoors. Being raised to be BIG and FAT, then thats exactly what you will be. Enjoy
And the film points out that just being concerned isn't enough. It even hints that there is even a large jump from aware to making a difference. But at least it is trying to get people to do that.

Is it just me, or is it weird that people get caught up about whether the chickens are raised “ethically” when, at the end, they still kill and eat them? If ethics is your genuine concern, then you should also not kill and eat them at all.

Ethically raised chickens would also put a lot less stress on the farmers so even those who could care less about eating the chickens can still feel better about supporting real families and helping farmers work under better conditions. It’s as much about a better life for the chickens as it is a better life for the farmers. Of course it would be great for people to eat more natural vegan foods but the reality is that will just never happen.
Klawgboi For me it’s more “raised proudly by farmers” rather than “raised ethically” I grew up a farm boy, my father’s a farmer and all his friends were farmers and I’ve never had anything that wasn’t delicious that they were proud of. These are stubborn folks with standards lifted up to show their pride and competitive nature with their fellow farmer that only get undercut when corporate mobs come and try to kick their feet out from beneath them.

There's a lot of gullible people out there who do fall for the slogans, captions and labelling of products which make them appear better for you and in turn, far more appealing as food options. I think the original Supersize Me documentary was focused more towards fast food being bad for you and showing just how bad it really is. Supersize Me 2 seemed to be focused more on transparency from the fast food chains in terms of their marketing and labelling. Not only this but the money side of things, even right down the roots of the products we see on fast food menu's, i.e. chicken farmers and how they are treated. I've been a big fan of the Supersize me documentary since it came out, I've watched it a good few times over the years and with the second, I really didn't feel like I was watching a follow on or rip off of the original which was effectively following a man eating nothing but McDonalds for a week to see the effects it had on the body. He was also trying to hold the fast food companies to account, both in stores and in office, when it came to nutritional transparency for consumers. I didn't really see any similarity in Supersize Me 2, other than both documentaries involving fast food. Ultimately, there's a reason that the Fast Food power houses and their marketing teams mislead people to the extent in which they do and that's because they know it works. Whether it's out of sight, out of mind or not for some people...there are undoubtedly people that see the word 'Crispy' instead of 'Deep Fried' for example, and think 'Healthier'.
What Morgan calls "corporate monopoly" is actually oligopoly, where there are a few large companies sharing the vast majority of the market, and have some kind of control on prices and quantity. By definition, this type of market is usually disadvantageous for the consumers, in this case the ones suffering the most being the chicken farmers.
Amazing movie and a very good interview. But I would have liked to hear what Sporelock is paying his employees. He is trampling minimal wages, which I am in total agreement with, but it would have set a brilliant example if he told us right there that minimum wage at his company would be 10 dollar or so with nice increments coming with seniority in his businesses.
