Amazing man, you actually recaptured the way I felt when I first heard this song. I didn’t remember until now but It was like 14 years ago or so and my family was leaving hobby lobby where my brother player warhammer 40k. I was anxious because it was a Sunday night and I had school the next day. This song came on the radio and it completely dissolved my anxiety. Such a specific memory dude thanks

@@theweirdo8622 look up nikotwenty on the Google play store. It's a beat machine app. You can sample with it which is cool but it also comes with a lot drum kits. It's really fun to use.
this mini is just an input device; all the magic is virtual instruments... and that's a _lot_ of work off camera; setting up the correct sounds for these covers and getting the mix right in his DAW
no wonder I fell in love this song so much back in the days. now when I see it's deconstructed I can tell it's pretty clever music wise. the bass line is very interesting, not just base of the chords, the counter music is actually another base line. the pads are there, but limited just to a piano but all the space is filled with a various different melodies. It is really cool I can see that now. It is really not cool, I am aware that I would probably never reach that level of creativity with my music. Cheers everyone.

I really love how you emphasized the third note of the bassline it gives it so much pull I actually like this instrumental even better than the original (in instrumental form). The drums sound punchier all around great textures and composition.

I own a melodica, and it's definitely not that. It sounds like delayed strings with a little bit of modulation. I also think it's slightly detuned. So I'd just check for "delayed strings" and you'll come across the right sound eventually. :)
I don't know which sample or plugin was used in this recreation or the released song, but Damon Albarn literally played a real melodica (which is usually seen as a child's plastic toy) on the first demo tape of this song. If you Google "Damon Albarn melodica" you can find various pictures of him playing one live.
The "strings" on this song are from a Solina string machine (an early synth).
