Yes they all seem incredibly patient with all of the foreigners but they all knew they were being filmed and the tape would be broadcasted online. So they were in their best behavior. In reality, many border offices are not nice and patient. Some of them can be quite mean and condescending. I think she was being a little harsh to the Chinese lady. She was eating the food because she didn’t want to waste them and not “eating away her evidence” like it was described in this video. The big bag of dried dates (looked like premium dates) can be expensive. I know this because I come from a province that produces dates. And the seeds or beans she took out of her luggage were most likely roasted seeds/beans so they’re not viable. These seeds and beans were most likely snacks which are common in China. The Chinese lady maybe understood a little English but definitely not fluent so that’s why she didn’t speak. Otherwise she would’ve explained herself. She probably also didn’t know she can’t bring dates to Australia cause from my understanding, meats, eggs, and dairy products are not allowed. My mom always brings a large quantity of dried and cooked dates back to the U.S, and she was never investigated and fined by the border officers. I’m sure you can find dried dates in Australian Asian supermarkets too. So what’s the big deal of her bringing some dried dates that are readily available in Aussie’s Asian supermarkets?! This video only shows the point of view from the border officer but not the other way around. Because the audiences are most likely Australian natives. If they have gotten a translator for her, you probably would not think this Chinese lady’s behavior is all that bad. I’ve seen a German old lady fought her way through the border office to bring a full jar of capers to the U.S. and she got away with it. Didn’t get fined because she spoke better English and she was very adamant about it. I wonder she got away with it because she was white and European.

If you pay attention, second test shows the powder is sodium carbonate, not any narcotics. And trace swap is sensitive so even some inadvertent contact of narcotics can trigger an alarm. Water is, well, water.
Why do people bring these things in their luggage ? If they want to eat those things, stay home. If they want to go to another country, embrace the food from that country.

Now that young woman owes someone $7,000. Guaranteed they're going to want that money back. I don't even want to think about what they're going to do to her, or force her to do, to re-pay that money. That's the real reason she was crying.

When I travel i hate carrying anything so I only take my small carry on, he had a few liters of water lol.

yes I was thinking that too. If she's eaten the seeds then they are going to appear sooner or later again, aren't they?
I am from Toronto and will go to Vietnam for my son's wedding and I plan to stay for only 3 days since I have a cruise planned. Wonder if I can get into trouble.
You have nothing to worry about as long as all your papers are in order and you're honest. Check with TSA on what you're allowed to bring. Every once in a while the laws change or they. add a twist to it. Safe travels and make wonderful memories. Greetings from Switzerland
The Australia custom officers are too nice to them, especially to the woman who keeps eating the confiscated Dates. If it happens in the US, she will be fined and the officer could take her to a separate room for questioning and even cancel her visa.
its because their border control have sensitivity training since 2000s because they have so much complaints and escalation before that because they were already too strict and they dont have any hospitality and
character policies of how they should deal with passengers in different culture before. my dad traveled to my aunt there in the 90's he almost didnt get in because of his "muddy boots" so they made him rinse it
Yes, indeed. What these Americans don’t understand is they will face U.S. Immigration they attempt to RE-enter the USA. They’ll be crying then!
Ignorance of law excuses no one. A law it's a law. She should fine her accordingly.

I’m deeply impressed with Australian Border Patrol Officers & procedures. You’re wonderful & amazingly polite despite how awful you’re treated. As an American, I’m embarrassed & ashamed of what I’ve seen & heard from other Americans. Please, arrest them all and accept our apologies and our thanks. When they return to the USA, they will be greeted with anything but a warm welcome. They’ll be scrutinized and examined to the fullest extinct of our laws. Misery will certainly be felt on their return as they discover how we really feel about their actions & behavior. These selfish people put everyone in danger. They are blind to anything but their own greedy desires. Most people have genuine decency and don’t do such things but there are some who are so selfish & blind to others in the World, they see nothing else. You each do an amazing job and an extremely honorable one. May God Bless You and you’re families for what you do each day to make our World a safer place for everyone of us and for the future of our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I remember 911 very clearly and I know the absolute terror we all felt that day and for a very long time afterwards. Without people like you, Australians, we would’ve been lost. Thank you for always being with America. We aren’t invisible and we are frightened. I read some of the comments and I’m shocked & disappointed in people. Their ignorance is extraordinary. There’s no Country that does this better than the Australians. You’re wonderful friends & true allies to Americans. Be safe and thank you. 🇺🇸 🇦🇺

A child can legitimately say they didn't pack their own luggage, but I have never seen an adult not pack theirs and be completely unaware of what they were carrying.
oh dont be too surprised! my dad is always like that everytime he going somewhere that needed packing. My mom usually pack everything for him and he knows nothing in there.
@biwind8175 I am like your dad but with my sister. 😂 I have no idea what could be on the bag. Even if you tell me I will immediately forget. I can even go out with friend let them put stuff in my bag cause they don't have enough place if we buy to much thing (food, clothes...).
Sorry for the bad eng
Marriage can do that to you. My wife packs all my stuff when I travel for work, from suit to medicine to snacks. The only thing I packed myself is my phone and wallet because they’re in my jacket pockets.
My spouse picks out clothes, lays them on the bed, I do the packing. He would have no idea if I stashed anything in there.
17:10 - She has a Gucci bag -- i *strongly doubt* she's there for work for aussie minimum wage if she can afford one of those
She admitted that she’s AV model😅
fake Gcc bag,
low end club or escort. there's Taiwanese escort service ring in australia, europe, usa, canada. Low-end bcs her looking is really way below average.
"I just dont like to make plan", i am not surprised as i kinda do the same. JUst book a motel as you are travell.
Young lady from Hong Kong is likely an escort. She’s probably meeting her friend who also works in same industry and is already in the country and encouraged her to visit. This is why she has no money (will work and make money), and no return flight because if business is good she planned on staying longer. Designer bag, no plans, no friends or family, no money, and previous work as a “model” give her intentions away.
I would have watch her to eat all her food in front of me, and then charge her the fine 😂 and that Vietnamese guy just cracked me up 😂 acting all surprised when been told there was narcotic substances in the cleaning power, and as there is no drinking water in Australia he had to bring back from Vietnam

No, they all do the same thing every time. They are cunning and liars. Never trust them.
She shouldn't be allowed to travel if she's not willing to communicate, even at least putting half an effort to familiarize themselves with another country's law.

One that works 20 hours a day probably! And, I bet they don’t ever get what they are promised. The immigration fraud is as much about the ‘immigrant’ being harmed.
And we wonder why they have to search us when we truthfully declare! No wonder!
Did the Taiwanese just admitted she's is here for work on a tourist visit?

Not sure why it's considered strange to not have an itinerary or return flight? I'm Asian American and work in private equity in NY and often travel globally with one way tickets and no clue what I am going to do in the countries I visit other than general sites that I want to see. I just let serendipity take its course. I'm never questioned anywhere I go (including first world countries) about what I am doing there even though I look Asian and am taking the same approach as this woman. Really what it boils down to is how you speak and what passport you have. There is clearly a bias and suspicion if you're not from America or Western Europe and can't speak English clearly.

(Gucci bag can’t tell it 😅) There’re many traveler come without plans but mostly they are rich and they can prove their money to spend but she couldn’t prove that.
The officers were kind and kindly compromise with them.
Customs officer says this is serious, bringing food items from other countries, yet there is enough of it happening to make these kinds of shows in Australia, Canada, US, all over the world. If it really was serious they would just send the offenders back. How easy would it be to educate them on the plane over to avoid these hassles, don't declare food, you get sent back home.
Obviously, the elderly woman from China either doesn't understand English or pretends not to understand English. How is it that whoever she is staying with doesn't explain clearly to her what is allowed and what is not allowed into Australia ? Perhaps Australia government might want to consider having the customs declaration available in different languages.
The form to be filled out before you get on a plane to come to Australia is available in every language, so no excuse.
They play dumb when they get caught.
Love it when the absolute accusatory border officials have to eat humble pie after being so sure they are dealing with drugs that are not there!

Shouldn't the airport /customs find a translator to mediate the language barrier?
Airports or customs don't employ people to specifically translate stuff they usually have another passenger that can speak the language do the translation if necessary it's easier for Airports to get another passenger to translate than it is to hire someone just to translate things.
They can speak English but pretend not to when they know they are in trouble😂

He isn’t able to keep the “cleaning powder”. Check the 3 results from the machine, which are positive for narcotics. Turns out he can’t keep one item, which is the honey.. ??? But can keep the “cleaning powder”???? Not detained or nothing?
They also let him keep the water
If you pay attention, second test shows the powder is sodium carbonate, not any narcotics. And trace swap is sensitive so even some inadvertent contact of narcotics can trigger an alarm. Water is, well, water.
The second test is more accurate as each substance has a unique profile as light hits it making it a 100% certain of a substance in the database
Thanks
Why do people bring these things in their luggage ? If they want to eat those things, stay home. If they want to go to another country, embrace the food from that country.

@@barbaramccollum-sd8vi Because their ancestors are savages.
@@barbaramccollum-sd8vi It's the upbringing. Some schools there focus academically and less emphasis on emotional intelligence with manners. Living in Hong Kong for a few years, some Chinese people tend to push others in line and act rudely to others.
