    I agree ! We would get a direct lead call them and they already hired someone else within 5 min. I asked who did the job go to and what was the quote? She started stuttering that she couldn't remember and I could hear her keyboard typing. I was like you can't remember who you just hired 5 min ago. We immediately delated our profile. They took us for 150.00 within a month or so. We will never use them again!

  • @Edwinjn1007
    @Edwinjn1007 5 лет назад +5

    I fell for it but only for a few days. I only got one job and got great reviews from the customer but the problem was with the charges for alleged leads. I started to get charges from leads that I did not actually received any answer and some that I didn't even quoted. They have little technicalities to charge you, no matter what. Even after I specified in the settings that was not interested in getting leads from areas more that 15 miles from my place (Orlando, FL.) I kept getting leads from as far as Tampa, for example...And getting charged for it!!! My suggestion...STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

      I filed arbitration with them. That’s the first step according to they’re terms. Arbitration costs them money so there’s a chance they’ll deny mine or anyone else’s arbitration and take the chance they don’t sue in court. If they do that you can sue on the grounds of violation of they’re own terms and conditions.
      Only problem you have to sue them in San Francisco, you agreed to that when signing up to the app. Most people won’t travel to California to sue them.
      It is possible to do though

Momentum was really good. Then they deleted my account and wouldn't tell me why. I have lost all momentum when I needed it the most. They don't care. Now my family of 7 are out of a home. Ok, possibly during Covid, sure understandable. However, then all of a sudden, get 2 leads in one day, how exciting right ? Then after I replied to both customers, then OMG, I received 3 more texts that I had more clients reaching out ?! Lol at that point, it was confirmed to me, something sketchy was going on. Thank you for the video! I deactivated my account last night because they kept charging me every time I received a direct lead, so $50 later, nada but I’m disputing the charges with my bank this morning. Thanks for the video, Jeremie. I did very well with Thumbtack for a couple of years, and most of my business (English tutoring) came from them. Pretty consistently, one third of all my leads become clients. But in the last few months they just haven't been giving me leads any more. I think it's because they've totally shifted their focus to home improvement businesses, because that's there the money is right now. At the same time, I think it's that they're saturated: I see hordes of tutors listed there now, and it seems like I can't rank high on their search results now no matter how good my profile gets. Maybe it works well for some people and badly for others. Or maybe it works for a while and then it doesn't.

    Consumers should stay away from this company as well. App-based companies have taken over where old fashioned leg work, advertising and word of mouth have fallen off for business owners who are looking for customers. The consumer is at the mercy of these companies who list so-called pros who may or may not be licensed. The companies claim that they do background checks on contractors but a general search of some of these businesses reveal that they are not registered within their state as an actual business. Buyer beware!....

    I have been with them for many years, as a Computer Consultant. Did get some very good leads and their fees were just a $3.33 per lead (now $5). Still, most of the leads did not pan out as the bidding is very competitive. In recent years, they will suggest leads from all over the New England area, and NYC. My fees are very low relative to most service businesses, so it is not worth it to travel very far from my home base of Stamford, CT. If you are in IT, it is better to get corporate work from agencies such as TEK Systems. These assignments can often last two years or more, with a regular weekly paycheck. Thumbtack can provide side work if you really want it, but you cannot count on anything steady.

    Im a small business owner in mole extermination, and after getting burned from other service providers I learned fast about doing research before pulling the trigger. Thank God I did in this case as well. Have you tried Task Rabbit? A lot of these places seem like they're too controlling and don't let you promote your business. I have a website and certain pricing, but these third parties seem to never be transparent or respect how we run our business. I AM looking for a professional referral service to get more clients, so if you have found such companies please let me know. Thank you for the video! I have enough headaches without adding thumbtack on the list.

    So you tried it for a month and that's it?
    I'm a full time wedding ph'er, just like you and I've been in Thumbtack for about two years and I treat it as a "second income" . I only use it for small gigs like engagement sessions, courthouse weds, portraits, etc. and it works for me because I NEVER LOOK FOR LEADS. That's how you loose money, just like you did. I simply wait for people to contact me. If you have an interesting profile to show of people will contact you. Always.
    If you set up 'Direct match' then you get charged only for the type of client that you're looking for. Meaning you set up your minimum wage, hourly rate, coverage time, etc and if people contact you with those variables that you want they charge you at a lower rate. (a much lower rate) i.e. I get a lead from someone who's budget is lower than the one I set up, but because they contacted me directly I get charged, well since the client's budget is lower and doesn't want my services I do get a refund from that lead since I did post my starting price point. Does that make sense?
    You need to invest the time and truly know how to work it because for 2019 Thumbtack was my 40% of yearly income.

    im A DJ commenting from another profile im logged into but yes i spent $300 on leads in less than 2 weeks because thumbtack was just taking every dollar from my bank account on "leads" and my bank started to deny so many requests because they thought it was fraud and thank god that happened, if not they would of took a lot more. I started to wonder the same, if the leads were even real. There's nothing to assure you that the leads are real. I supposedly have one guy that's going to book me and I actually spoke to on the phone and i hope it's true but if he does i would kind of break even. And same i do really really good for the past 10 years with word to mouth but i was just trying to fill in small gaps as well and reach other potential clients. ill update if anything changes

Well... that just came to mind. so... am yeah I just thought the worst that an enemy could live a life span of yours and met you in your present life and the reason you feel as if you wan't to kill them is because in that past sex they did everything that makes you feel unattractive or that you find to be unattractive about another person. And pretended to love who you disposed of in that life like a humiliating bad habit for the money because your parents are still entrapped in a few time barriers too for not spending enough time with you but no worries I've been similar or worse and what the hell...I'm still here so I might as well pretend to be enjoying myself is my sweetest revenge.

    Hi I'll like to share my experience with tt. I am a tile setter Certified and I tried tt for 1 mth and what you are saying is true they charge you when a client makes contact and charge you by how big the project is and how much they think it's worth. It's not cheap. I've gotten 2 bids and yes I did go to their property but never recived the jobs bc most of them want super cheap. I lost $100 for both bids plus on top of that lost my time to drive there, lost gas, wasted my breath explaining. I noticed the same thing too. Ppl will contact me and I'll be charged $35+. I canceled my account and tumbtack started blowing my phone up with different numbers that I would block all the same but they tried their hardest to get me back on. Hell no, never again. I had to change my business number bc of those ignorant ppl. Angilist is tt owned too.

    This couldn't be more true, and there's another "dog" out there, from across the "Pond." We know who. I have had to demand credit refunds from the dog. And whereas the latter makes you pre-purchase shady leads starting at $100 (2023), Thumbtack debits your account for crappy leads they actively send. You, the talent, are rendered passive. When that happens, a temptation for scam runs high. Leads who have odd handles-that is not an oxymoron-seem too coincidental. Many leads have foreign names, which, even as handles, makes for a more convenient way to duck scrutiny. Pay-to-play is a fact of life in today's business. These don't seem like honorable players, though. No doubt they've spawned copycats who can't resist the temptation. Maybe stick to traditional word-of-mouth until we all have vetted players in this land of P2P.
