I hope this little story can help:
I was a complete dumb in English and French at school. After "studying" English for 10 years I was barely able to understand someone asking me a simple question.
A couple of years after finishing school I decided to set my own method so I could do something about it, and in around a year I was pretty shocked by the results...
It was just about doing everything I enjoyed, but in the target language. I just forgot about using Spanish (my 1st language) when I wanted to watch a film, read a book, I enjoyed translating songs and catching up with phonology through that... I know it sounds way too simple, but it actually works! when you forget about the learning process and you start doing everything in the target language on a daily basis you just absorb it.
Now I'm able to speak 4 languages fluently, and it's an amazing feeling...All those years feeling I was a bloody retarded guy, and then, it was just about learning how to learn.
Thanks for your video Emma...Big hugs to everyone ;)

Be native in 9 month doing nothing:
    1. Search a healthy couple in native English country.
    2. Be the two lucky gametes.
    3. Wait
This trick work for any language but only one time, then choose the language carefully

Firstly, as a native speaker of Japanese, I am really glad that you decided to study Japanese.
    Thank you, Emma!
Secondly, thank you for talking about this huge elephant in the room. I have been jaded about those hideous marketing tricks for a long time as well.
Nobody tries to learn to play a sport or a musical instrument in a few weeks, but when it comes to learning languages, people assume (or are made to assume )that they can master their target language in such a short time.

English is my mother tongue and Hebrew is my Father's. I basically have two first languages, if that's even possible...
I am now learning to become an English teacher, and I find myself finding "new words" in English each and every day!
Today; for example, I've learnt _forlorn_ is another word that is similar to dreary, or lonely.
Never give up hope with learning a language, or as Barak Obama used to say: "Yes we can!".

It doesn't felt like a longer video, and listening to you helps me improve the listening skills. Talking about the content, It's really a good message which most people hesitate to share. This video hopefully educate people to think twice before investing their hardly earned money on scam marketing activities which probably ruin their confidence and ends up in depression. As you said, the marketing campaigns or tricks which has a promised results within a particular time frame is absolutely 'STUPID'. They try to exploit the demand or needs of people. I think not only in language learning but anything which has demand among people will have shady marketing manoeuvre across the globe.
The tips you mentioned are really helpful, especially the second one.!

'Pronuciation with Emma' is the most brilliant English-Teaching-video in youtube. So I share it with students. It's not just your pronunciation or video but your class can really help people 'thinking'. Even there are 12 students in one class, they got the same teacher , the same period and situation. Some of them learn quick and some are not. You're right for this 'we don't need to follow other's rule and expectation(teachers or parents). '. Then I'll encourage those students in your way. Because I think it's right.

Thanks Emma for your tips and all your encouraging words. Leaning a language is so difficult. It has been years since I have started learning all by myself because I was so bad in school. In France, they are not good for teaching english at school. So technically I am learning by myself with series in english with english french subtitles first and now with english subtitles. I am listening to Podcast recorded by my favourite actor who is english. And now I am preparing for the TOIEC. Each day I listen some of your videos and I am really learning to sound more British thanks to you. It's so easy to listen to you, I can perfectly understand what you say. I don't think I will be completely fluent one day because it's really hard but I am progressing each day and that's a really good thing.

Just compliments, I don't want to hit on you 🙂, really not but it's more pleasant to have a teacher like you than a creepy... Boris Johnson for example 🙂
I appreciated this video because you're totally right. We don't have to follow this stupid goals of this several apps saying it's possible to get fluent in a foreign language that fast.
I never made me pressure on schedule to progress in English. I think I just had facilities in understanding, and recently I started to speak with natural born speakers and realized that I really moved on just listening English (yours or American) and was happy to heard of those people I'm really good for a French 🙂.
My point is, as you said, I never put pressure on me to reach particularly goals and it has been naturally for me.
You're really brave to start learn Japanese, for me it's like an Everst to learn a language with a totally different alphabet and sounds we're never heard.
I really like you're RUclips channel, not a found on Video games so I never tried your twitch one, but I'll follow your tip for trying read or listen English contents of topics I like, science, technology, even if I know I would certainly have to search translation of specifics words hardest to get those with just the context.
Please tell me what I have to improve on my sentences construction, I think I'm still thinking in French before transposed it in English.
Thanks for your work, I see you're enjoying share your experience in language's learning, keep it that way.
You're French secret "lover" 😃 Luc

I pretty much had the same story you had with French with my English, but a thankfully, 8 months ago, I got the motivation from listening a good podcast and the fact that I tended to enjoy it a lot more when a watched movie is in English (original version) than the French dubbed one. I started having fun throughout the process then bought English grammar in use ( for intermediate). all Those helped with the listening, comprehension, and reading, but my speaking stilllllll sucked. This was until I came across the phrase " pronunciation with Emma" on Twitter. Since then I've been feeling more confident when it comes to speaking since I started getting Right most of the sounds ( th, oo, w, i, ii,) . I just keep following you.

I totally agree that each one has its own pace and I think that most of this kind of thing is just marketing. It is good to know that you are learning Japanese, although I follow procrastination with Emma (sometimes), I had no idea that you were learning Japanese. It sounds like a challenge, but it's a nice language. Similar to you this year, I started to learn Russian because I was looking for a completely different language and also to test some of the learning techniques I learned while studying English. The secret, I think, is doing it at my own pace. Learning a language because of deadlines or needs is not a pleasant thing. That was my story with English. Everyone should study at their own pace and using the methods they like best. About English I think I only start to really improve when I incorporate the language into my daily life, reading news, listening to videos, interviews and TED lectures and writing articles and text messages. Good luck with the Japanese!

I am going through this situation where I fell stupid because I am not able to speak English fluently like my friends at school. But this taught me how to go about it. Thank you again, I am going to follow your advice.

Thank you for always providing us with great videos. I'm a Japanese who is always studying English using videos from PronunciationWithEmma channel. English is a difficult language for me. For example, the concepts of article(a/the/singular and plural noun) do not exist in Japanese. It's very difficult for me to get a feel for the concepts of countable and uncountable nouns. Also, all native English speakers speak quickly, It is difficult to hear and understand it. I started intensive English learning about a year ago. At that time, I discovered PronunciationWithEmma channel. A year ago, I saw "STORY TIME! How I Became the Teacher I am Today". I wanted to understand the video, but at the time I was a beginner level, so it was difficult. I added subtitles, stopped the video many times, and looked up the meaning of each word I didn't understand. And I managed to understand the contents of that video. And today I watched this video. Although I put subtitles on today, I could understand the whole contents by watching it once without stopping the video. I'm really happy that my English is definitely improving. I think an important aspect of language learning is to believe in yourself and work for the long term without being confused by the schedules that others have arbitrarily decided. Please do your best to study Japanese.

    Thank you , Emma-san !
You really are a good teacher now. Your experience of learning Japanese can help your teaching skills , I think.
I'm Japanese, so I totally respect your try to learn Japanese.
I guess keeping your motivation on going is quite tough. How do you do that??
Memorizing hiragana and katakana is not very interesting I guess.
So even Japanese kids also take a few years to do that.
    4 weeks to accomplish, you??
So I imagine lots of foreigners learning Japanese start from Japanese manga to keep your interests being.
    How would you progress ??
I hope you can keep going !!
I hope to be with you as well !!😊
    eg.
English order : My mother bought me socks yesterday.
Japanese order : Yesterday mother socks bought.
And we Japanese don't need I, my, to me at all in our conversation😂
Your most important thing must be verb. But our one is noun I think.
So it's pretty difficult for Japanese to learn English.

OMG I definitely know what it’s like to be the worst in class 😩. I’ve already felt such a dumb in German classes and at that time everybody also spoke English in the class except me ... It was so frustrating but I didn’t give up! I’ve made the best decision ever: changed the school and it really worked! 😊. Now I’ve been more patient with me in the English learning process😉

I like the way you say the word "Japanese". I feel the British accent. Your channel is by far the best channel to improve British pronunciation.

Really love this video because this is situation every student go through when you are learning a language and I feel identify with your experience I've been studying English for one year and I need to learn more but when I was starting I used to compare myself with other I that made me feel like a stupid because I couldn't learn fast as my classmates but now I understand every person is different and not matter if you learn fast or slow the important is never stop trying
