My favorite one has to be Aquaman and I’m sorry for those but I did love that Justice league run 😅Batman as well really enjoyable despiste Scott Not good at Finishing the arc in a great way
Definitely Animal Man. Lemire is now undeniably one of the all time great writers and Travel Foreman’s art was is creepy. Flash had some of the best art of any run in his entire history. Aquaman is my favorite New 52 run overall. Love Gail Simone but I still think the way they handled the Barbara Gordon situation was a massive mistake.
Yeah that animal man run is certainly memorable 👏 And I enjoy that Batgirl run but I get how the treatment was polarizing given the character’s history
The New 52 was so much fun ! I can’t say that enough. They used that time to experiment and try fun & gritty things and I enjoyed the rules they broke. I agree that Aquaman & Justice League by Geoff Johns was so fun. I appreciate him for using his JL run to push B & C list characters. Fun list bro. 🤘🏾
Thanks brotha! Appreciate you stopping by! Hope you’re well 💪 I agree I love the new 52 that was when I really started collecting comics myself so I always think of that era fondly
Runs I appreciate from the New 52 include Batman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Flash, Batgirl, Batman & Robin, Justice League, Justice League Dark, Wonder Woman, Nightwing. Later in the New 52 I liked World’s Finest.
Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words! And yeah I tried to pick a few heavy hitters and then a couple that maybe aren’t classics or talked about a ton but still fun reads :) 📚📚📚
All-Star Western, Aquaman, Batman, Batman and Robin, Green Lantern Corps, and Swamp Thing were all excellent. I’m still needing to read the entirety of the New 52 Animal Man, Batgirl, and Nightwing runs because those were great, too. Red Hood and The Outlaws we don’t talk about.
Appreciate all of these great recommendations! You’re the second today to recommendation All-Star Western 👏 I have not read the Green Lantern Corps run from this era may need to look into It. 📚 Thanks for watching
Tony S Daniel is definitely in my top 10 Batman artists! also my favorite new 52 series is a cross between Scott Snyder's Batman and Geoff Johns's Aquaman!
Daniel’s work is gorgeous! Have you seen his art on Nocterra from Image Comics? And great choices for favorite New 52 runs! Love those series myself 👏📚📚 Thanks for watching :)
@@MarvelKnight-tw9hb high recommend from me written by Scott Snyder with Daniel on art. Kind of a Dystopian future action/adventure with some monsters. Have loved the series so far! Happy reading! 📚
I liked a lot of the lower tier books from that era. Demon Knights, Stormwatch, and I Vampire sort of had their own interconnected family of titles that was fun.
I also really enjoyed Green Lantern and the New Guardians. It was a strong Kyle Rayner run with great interactions with other lanterns. But this, Nightwing, Aquaman, & Justice League were my favorite New 52.
For me, the highlight of the New 52 was Justice League Origin. Just a fun, live action movie on paper and I have a blast each time I read it. I love the art. Also, the Shazam backup stories were great and I have those in a collection of their own. I really want to read Batman Zero Year. I love origin stories and I just wanna see what Batman Zero Year brings to the able. Plus, it has Riddler as the main villain!
Some great new 52 moments! I feel like Johns entire JL run feels like a fun action movie on page-in a great way! I do recommend zero year it definitely brings some unique elements to a Batman origin and great art 🦇
Great list. The New 52 gets dumped on way too much because of the mess it made with the DC universe on a macro level, but at the micro level there were some great stories being told. Other great reads from this time include Frankenstein Agent of Shade (which is getting reprinted thanks to the creature commandos TV show coming up), Earth-2, and I Vampire. I Vampire was especially overlooked at the time because we were in the middle of Twilight-mania and vampires were played out. Plus, the first cover looked like a romance novel, so people assumed it was DC’s version of Twilight. Of course, they were wrong. This book is dark and amazing and the artwork by Andrea Sorrentino was so freaking good. I wish this would get a reprint. I lost my paperbacks in a move a number of years ago.
Agree on your macro / micro assessment 👏 I really liked I, Vampire! Great series. I’ve always wanted to check out that Frankenstein series, happy to hear of a reprint. You’re one of a handful of people who have recommended the New 52 Earth 2 series to me since I started my channel. Eventually I’ll need to try to check it out! Thank you for watching 📚📚📚
I’ve read New 52 action comics. As a series…it’s fine. It’s just not a great Superman series, to me New 52 Superman is a different character than the Superman we all know and love. There’s fun stuff sure but I’m just letting you know that before you want to read it.
Great question! For Swamp Thing I’d say this: It’s a horror comic and it’s not Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing. If you’re in for a horror book and don’t hold it to the same expectations as that Moore run I actually think it’s a fantastic run from what I’ve read of it! Art is brilliant stories are interesting. Solid book. Action Comics I struggled to get into personally I read maybe just over half of that run and I had trouble engaging with Morrison’s Superman. I have considered returning to reevaluate it however because it’s been quite some time since I’ve tried to make my way through it! Cheers!
Great video, I just finished blackest night GL , and was so interested in what was going on with the rest of the DC universe, I bought the dc 52 omnibus.
@@TheComicBookReport wow thanks for catching the mistake I was making by not picking up infinity crisis first. This stuff gets complicating especially when trying to avoid spoilers , I was also looking at the Scott Snyder batman omnibuses but not sure where they fit in?
@@PoorPersonsBookReviewer of course! You could even do crisis in infinite earths before infinite crisis but infinite crisis itself is probably a good primer before 52 because it follows right after I believe! Anyway happy reading :) New 52 Batman is that Scott Snyder / Greg Capullo run! Omnibuses are beautiful. It’s after Grant Morrison’s time on Batman and after the events of Flashpoint. However because it is at the start of the new 52 era you’re relatively good to just start from there if you want 👍🦇
I’m just a sucker for this era man ha. There were some misses for me for sure but overall I really dug it-at least what I’ve read. This was the era I started really collecting for myself and it was such a great on-ramp for me. Plus this Batman run is just my favorite 🦇 Thanks for watching man!
