When I saw Gåte live at Debaser Slussen, Stockholm in 2005...they changed my life. I was in a quite big depression back then, but they gave me hope. I'm forever thankful!
The approximate (and shortened) translation is: "I don't want to be a slave forever, because love is not a cage, you shouldn't tear your soul apart, because love is to wish well. You can't steal anyone's heart or even borrow it for a while, love is not when you are caught in a net, love is to wish well. I want life to blossom like fruits on trees again, you shouldn’t kill me with love, because love is to wish well". As you can see, the key line of this song is "Kjærleik er å vilja vel" which means "Love is to wish well." I hope it helps you to understand the song better. (And yes, Gåte are my Eurovision winners too!)
@@Aderyn_Thank you very much, now I am really touched by the translation of the song. Femicides are very intense in my country and when I read this, those women came to my mind. Thanks a lot 🙏
The good thing about music is that you can enjoy it, even if you don't understand the lyrics! Some artists don't even use "real" lyrics at all, like e.g. Lisa Gerrard (most of the time). But in some cases, understanding the lyrics can make you enjoy/love a song even more - depending on the content of the lyrics. I started learning Norwegian because of another Norwegian artist I love and even though she sings in a dialect from northern Norway, I now understand her lyrics quite well and this makes the impression of her songs on me even stronger.
@@MissLoonasSpeech Exactly! You can listen to the music and feel it without even knowing the lyrics. Gåte's songs have such magic and are able to immerse you in different emotions. But sometimes you really want to understand the lyrics too, and it was Gåte who inspired me to start learning Norwegian, although I'm still at the very beginning. But I'm very grateful for it, because it turned out to be an incredibly beautiful language (in my personal opinion, of course). And isn't it cool when our favourite artists inspire us to learn something completely new? So I think we have something in common in a way)
@@Aderyn_ While all my favourite Norwegian artists speak English very well, being able to have conversations with them in Norwegian is something extra-special! By the way, since you do like Gåte, have you ever heard (of) Bergtatt? They are the band of John Stenersen, who plays the keyed fiddle in this clip and who joined Gåte for their Norwegian tour last year, after Gunnhild's brother and founding member Sveinung had decided to leave the band. John Stenersen also plays hurdy-gurdy. I also think that Norwegian is a beautiful language.
If you can, do yourself a favour and go to their concert in Paris on December 10th! I also recommend to check out the acoustic live version of this song which Gåte played in an old copper mine in March 2020, if you haven't already watched it.
