Crazy how my BROCKHAMPTON phase lasts for almost 7 years now haha... I will agree with saturation trilogy definitely being THE bh albums most of people come back to but there's still a lot of quality in their later projects (with Roadrunner being my 2nd favorite bh album) including TF and TM which i personally mostly like and their huge catalogue of unreleased stuff which is also pretty great. Kinda sad how it all went down in the end but i'm excited for what they will do as solo artists.
Definitly agreed. I love the lyrics and melodies and rhythms. If you're into those, there is an episode, the first one actually, on the "New Moon Radio" podcast by Bella Stevens. I have listened/watched lots of stuff about that but this one is my favorite so far.
I think the way that we might see a resurgence of music videos is ironically through tiktok. The reason they became popular in the first place was through mtv where there was a fully syndicated place for music discovery and you needed a video to be on there, because it was also tv. If you want to be technical about it, the tiktok music promotion scene is just really basic music videos. And we’ve seen how insanely successful that can be, connor price being a prime example where he essentially became famous by posting a bunch of short music videos for each song. There’s also been a rise of people complaining about how dry and basic all of those videos are. I think it’s feasible that we see a resurgence in cinematic/complex music videos designed to market on tiktok in snippets.
about the popular music stuff, the thing is, yes popular music is popular for a reason but finding smaller bands in whatever popular niche youre into is whats really important. not only to support the smaller bands, but also to expand your horizons of what music you like. cuz not all bands have the same inspiration n such. good vid man :)

Agreed, however intensely heavy bands like Phyllomedusa and Primitive Man are still really good, but they’re good for more reasons than just being heavy
As one of the three Imagine Dragons fans on the planet, the songs they play in malls are literally their worst songs. Everyone just knows them from their popular songs when people should listen to their actually good albums like Night Visions, Smoke + Mirrors, and especially Mercury Acts 1 + 2.
3:29 Blustre hasn’t encountered a salty, 50-year-old thrash metal chastising him for failing to correctly name tracks 4-6 of Kill ‘Em All while wearing a Metallica shirt yet
Personally I’m so over the “metal and classical music are so alike!” take. It shaves off the nuance of the histories and styles of both classical, with its movements to say the very least, and metal as well. And, let’s be real, metal music overall just hasn’t reached the compositional prowess that has flooded classical for centuries. Is there a Mahler or a Debussy or a Prokofiev of Metal? Hard to say, only time will tell, but I find this comparison dumb and spread around too much to say anything new.
while i do agree that it shaves off nuance metal and classical are pretty similar and many metal fans love classical (me included) and about the "there is no compsitional prowess" go listen to sabaton, they are fire and are very distinct
I 100% agree although I do think it's also important to mention the cases where the metal is clearly influenced or even featuring classical music or orchestration (FGA for example) but even then, it's moreso that the metal is influenced by it and not that they are "similar"
i was (was keyword) a metal elitist, so i understand many of the points that those people made (the shirt one was about people wearing those shirts without actually listening to the bad ex. nirvana shirt) but yeah, the issues do exist but they blow them out way more than what they should
As a fellow metal enjoyer the shirt thing in the video is its own thing that is separate from what you talked about although the "not a real listener" shirt thing is definitely more prevalent. I think the "not wearing the shirt of the band you're seeing" thing may also be more of a thing at classic rock concerts as my mom talked about how she doesn't understand why people have that mindset (and I've been to my fair share of both classic rock and metal concerts) but I think it is present for both.
You’re a pretty cool guy. I enjoyed the time I spent on this video. Thanks for that. My hot take (that idk if it’s a hot take) is that Mr Morale is a better album than DAMN
When they said that music without instruments is worse than music with instruments, I legit thought they meant a capella! And I was like "yeah, I hate a capella!"
Are Imagine dragons' songs used in a comercial a lot in the states? So much that you don't wanna hear that 'not bad music' anymore? (Genuinely asking cause Im not from US btw)
There was a period when any grocery or clothing store you went to, any radio station you tuned into, or any park that played music would blast Imagine Dragons.
why is it that edm can have such a large fanbase and yet i never see any representation anywhere, like i saw porter robinson and was like "oh yeah i know that guy" and then went to the song and it wasn't edm so it's not like people even know he does it. hot take: sound design is more important than lyrics, and i listen to rap for the beat
Hot take its more fun to wear another band you listen to's merch to the show youre going to go see so you can represent the other side of the music scene you're into. For example i went and saw Primus with a King Gizzard shirt on and Vice Versa and its a lotta fun to make friends with that

IFL people just dont give the newer BH stuff a chance anymore, which is really too bad 😪 They still kept putting out quality stuff due to all the stuff going on behind the scenes / slander they were getting from everybody because people take something and run with it like its 100% factual.
2:28 I'm gonna be completely honest, while i definitely don't fully agree with this take, I do understand where they are coming from - I don't really follow rap/hip hop very much, and seeing the beef become so big just seems... not cool? Like it's an industry where it is acceptable to just make a song about how much you hate another person? Like no matter how bad of a person you are, you should be allowed some chance to grow as a person. And also, rap is really hard for me to get into. I won't say all rap sucks because, it definitely doesn't, but a lot of rap and hip hop really doesn't work for me, and i can't ever see myself liking it. Personally I'm really not into, and this is a LOT of generalization but bear with me, the dark/explicit lyrical content, frequent use of autotune (gives me a feeling that I can only describe as "icky"), the less emphasis on instrumentals, the less upbeat-ness, and a lot of rap is just kinda boring to me. There are definitely songs and artists that I still like, and rarely all of these points affect one individual song, but like, when you think about it, its kind of surprising that rap is as mainstream as it is. Anyway my point is, I disagree with the take that "Rap sucks" but there are a lot of elements to it that are understandable to not like. by the way, to give you an idea of my actual music taste, my favorite music is: jazz (I play saxophone), rock (especially 90s), D&B + some other EDM, maybe i'm just basic idk take what i say with a grain of salt
immagine you dislike someone very much, and that person continued to give you litle insults that other people didnt understand for 10 years, then you discover that peron has some shady business, so you decide out them, thats what happened
All those bad things you listed are mostly present in trap music, if you're not counting trap, then maybe only 2% of rappers use autotune, lots of rappers and their albums have crazy production (some with live bands even) and mostlt their lyrics are deeper and more meaningfull than you think. Calling it boring kinda shows you didnt look into it at all because rap/ hip hop is one of the most diverse sounding genres out there
i'm like a month late to this but two things: i'm amused to see the turn around on the "wearing merch of the band to their concert" thing, but my opinions on that are very much informed by hipster culture b/c the logic was... okay you're at the concert, everyone already knows you like the band, wearing the merch is try hard LOL. the better move was to wear the merch of an even cooler and more obscure band to a concert and get cred points that way. i still won't wear merch to a concert, with rare exception, although it doesn't bother me as much when other people do as it used to. and in regards to the music videos... if that's what you want, consider opening your minds and hearts to kpop LOL not every mv is a cinematic masterpiece, but there's some really great stuff out there, and since visuals are such a big aspect of the whole kpop package, a lot of effort is generally put into the mvs at least looking good. but there's also a lot of mvs with stories that span multiple mvs and albums and a lot of really interesting stuff! even most things from groups with less money will be impressive. but a lot of people won't give it a chance, and i used to be like you, i swear! but then i let go of my preconceived notions and decided to have fun!
Digital DAWS are good, it gives people without access to expensive instruments like myself the opportunity to follow their passions! Nothing wring with that.
Liking popular music is the definition of basic. Like, that’s literally what being “basic” means. You like the generic things everyone likes. And I’ve caught a lot of heat for this before, but I consider liking Taylor Swift to be basic. And I’m not saying that’s a bad thing (although… it would feel good to be smugly superior about my famously eclectic music taste… no I’ll be kind today) but that’s just what the term means.
The reason I think teezo is as popular in the industry run is cuz Tyler listens to random shit and probably stumbled upon teezo or was listening for a while and decided to put him on cmiygl and since Tyler is such a prominent figure Travis put him on the album and other celebs have been co-signing him
My take is regardless of who you listen too go for it. Im not a big fan of mainstream personality but i know why they are mainstream. Hell my favorite artist is a guy from north Carolina with like 300k monthly and my second favorite is teezo touchdown
Went to my first metal show nigh a week ago and to be honest nobody seemed to mind even if I had literally bought the merch just outside right before the show started. I even made a few friends there. Metal communiyt is healing (I hope) 🙏🙏🙏
It's so dumb. Like why would I not wear merch for the band I'm seeing? It's no different than me wearing Minnesota Vikings stuff to a Vikings game. It would be weird as shit for me to go to a Vikings game and wear something completely different
Yea it's such a weird thing. Metal heads are either the most sweetest, light hearted and most relaxed people you'll know or they'll be angry, elitist cunts and there seems to just be absolutely no in-between. It's only those 2 types of metal heads and nothing else.
Nah there's too much different. The Beatles changed the trajectory of music entirely. Taylor Swift has maybe influenced a few musicians. The Beatles became more and more experimental. Taylor Swift has remained extremely formulaic and repetitive. The Beatles were also good music.
Not only are you off by 2 decades, but that just isn't accurate. The Beatles were a pop band from 1963-1965, but they quickly went alternate after Revolver and changed their whole sound. I.E compare 'Love Me Do' to 'I'm Only Sleeping,' 'Tomorrow Never Knows,' or 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps.'
1:59 I will say, I like the beatles, I think their music is good, but that's all I think of it, just good. I get that they were extremely influential and pioneered all of these musical and songwriting techniques and whatever, but that doesn't really translate into the actual sounds hitting my ears. Being influential doesn't automatically make your music perfect or immune to criticism.
Yes making “music” on a computer isn’t the same as actually playing an instrument. There are so many bands with thousands of hours playing their instruments, it actually takes skill. Also big artists don’t make their songs on computers their producers do that. Dave Grohl said himself that becoming successful is meaningless when it is given to you. Working for it makes it meaningful. In order to be good you need to suck. You can’t suck when everything you do can be perfectly pitched and perfected it’s lazy
physical instruments doesn't equal more effort. and effort doesn't even equal good music in the first place. that's arbitrary to say and Impossible to measure. punk music wouldnt like that argument, because It's literally the most simple and minimalistic things to play and make and It's one of the most important and influential genres ever. It's also played with physical instruments but it's certainly easier to make than plunderphonics or progressive electronic for example. so yeah, please let art evolve
@@averagembvfan Atleast the fucking punk rockers play their own shit unlike most people who make music on computers who have a producer do it. There’s no point in evolving to get worse. No fucking shot you hear edm and say “this the good shit”. Like how you gonna have a smashing pumpkins logo and say something like that. Effort does equal good as well, if something is done with no effort than it won’t be good what a stupid fucking argument
As someone who has Kendrick Lamar as their favorite artist, saying that DAMN. is the best rap album of all time is a terrible take. Its not even top 3 Kendrick albums and if you look at all the older albums that helped shape what the genre has become today they are miles better. It even gets outshined by quite a few modern rap albums too. Saying tpab is the best of all time is more reasonable but i would still disagree
Honestly, I'm done with the Imagine Dragons slander. The deep cuts from their first 2 albums absolutely slap and I don't care that they got more commercial later, because when they're good, they're REALLY good, and when they're bad, they're meh, forgettable.
Hot take: I hate the gladiator/circus song and Three Dog Night ruined it for me in their song "The Show Must Go On". Actually, one of the employees at my university's diner ruined it by playing this song on his speaker, but that's besides the point.
I think the thing with "industry plant" is that nobody knows what it is or why it's bad. You flashed up Ice Spice, but why do you think she is that? What is an industry plant and how does that apply to her and why should we care? Because I think there's basically three (basically mutually contradictory) things people use it to mean: Artist with connections in the industry or outsized wealth The "actual" definition which is an artist who is somehow manufactured by a label Or an artist who's just pushed by their label really hard. 1 and 3 are kind of irrelevant in regards to judging an artist's value and authenticity and 2 is what it historically meant, but it's very rarely true in any way.
The way I’ve always used it is for artists that it seems like no one likes, or at least are no one’s favorite, and who aren’t even super commercially successful (like imagine dragons) but somehow seem to just coast and stick around being mediocre when there are so, so many better people who could take their place, and the only real difference between them is the first person has the industry behind them, artificially inflating them through heavy promotion and back alley producing/feature deals, and the others are indie or with smaller labels that don’t have the capital or connections to do the same.
As a metalhead myself, metal elitists are horrible. Let me listen to my modern metal band and not be called a fucking poser.
I noticed a ton of people in the rock and metal communities are like them too I'm not into either really but I love Slipknot than I get called a basic bitch 😂

As a former metal head/frequent concert goer I used to get bullied hard af for wearing merch of the band I was seeing
I really like eydress
The Beatles were the Taylor Swift of the 80s
Nah there's too much different. The Beatles changed the trajectory of music entirely. Taylor Swift has maybe influenced a few musicians. The Beatles became more and more experimental. Taylor Swift has remained extremely formulaic and repetitive. The Beatles were also good music.
off by 2 decades 😭😭😭
Not only are you off by 2 decades, but that just isn't accurate.
The Beatles were a pop band from 1963-1965, but they quickly went alternate after Revolver and changed their whole sound.
I.E compare 'Love Me Do' to 'I'm Only Sleeping,' 'Tomorrow Never Knows,' or 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps.'
Guys it’s a joke I saw on twitter it’s not serious
Didn't sean kingson get arrested for like theft and fraud
literally saw that headline while editing this
1:59 I will say, I like the beatles, I think their music is good, but that's all I think of it, just good. I get that they were extremely influential and pioneered all of these musical and songwriting techniques and whatever, but that doesn't really translate into the actual sounds hitting my ears. Being influential doesn't automatically make your music perfect or immune to criticism.
I'm a Djo fan too!!!
Money trees crazy Tik Tok famous and a perfect song
Anthony Fantano reference at 8:55
Call me weird but Toxic by BoyWithUke is actually good just the first few seconds are overplayed.
The areoplane over the sea overrated???
The Sean Kingston thing aged poorly (he was arrested seconds after this dropped)
My Brother in Christ and Allah, look up Salvatore Ganacci if you need more good music videos.
Effort does equal good as well, if something is done with no effort than it won’t be good what a stupid fucking argument
who is Sophie 😅
blustre I like purple
nice
Also end of beginning isn’t good
nice👌
Brat is a mid album at best
2:19 hey I’m 13 and I have abbey road in my closet rn
Imagine Dragons is unironically my favorite band.
Rap sucks
Metal blows
You‘re gonna make the single limp bizkit dads angry for this statement
Ice Spice and Dasha are two of the biggest industry plants in a while
As someone who has Kendrick Lamar as their favorite artist, saying that DAMN. is the best rap album of all time is a terrible take.
Actually, one of the employees at my university's diner ruined it by playing this song on his speaker, but that's besides the point.
in the aeroplane over the sea sounds like someone is rubbing your eardrums against a cheese grater why is it so glazed
I still don’t like rap music (Yes, I’m a metal and classical elitist)
I think the thing with "industry plant" is that nobody knows what it is or why it's bad. You flashed up Ice Spice, but why do you think she is that? What is an industry plant and how does that apply to her and why should we care?
Because I think there's basically three (basically mutually contradictory) things people use it to mean:
Artist with connections in the industry or outsized wealth
The "actual" definition which is an artist who is somehow manufactured by a label
Or an artist who's just pushed by their label really hard.
