The moment he dared people to find more examples of him stealing was the moment he solidified his professional suicide. The balls on this guy thinking he didn't do anything wrong and that he won't get caught on other stuff.
This was funny, but also... I'm sorry man. I know the feels. I recently got a job, so I can tell you if gets better. Cheers, from the other end of the world.
Very true, at least for you, there is someone out there who can't wait to meet/be with you and a job that only you'll be able to do better than everyone else. You got this dude, unlike Philip, the world doesn't collectively hate you.
You dodged a bullet with the chick and now you have the chance to actually find something that’s right for you professionally... you’re right you’re way better than him. You have a blank canvas for painting your future
Link2124 I know right? Old people always complain about the new generation. If we have it tough, then we need to ‘suck it up’ like they did, and if some things are easy, we are ‘entitled/lazy’. And god forbid if some of us are discontent with the way things are, for wanting to change the failures of our society, because then we are ‘spoiled’ and should just accept mediocrity. Fucking pricks.
this talk about plagiarism, and copying things its kinda funny the guy was a former youtuber before joining IGN, since youtube is full of people copying each other, same structure etc, thro out all genres of youtube
That fucker isn't even sorry he got caught. He's sorry about all the "confusion" and "wishes the best" for the guy he copied. That bastard won't even admit it lol. He needs to examine his life very closely.
ROFL TURKEY As all such folk are...ironic that at a time when print journalism is under attack for bias, game journalism is stepping up to unmask this casual liar. You have to wonder...if he'd just let this die down, no additional lead shot in his own foot, could he have gotten away with it and kept working elsewhere?
I doubt it, even one definitively provable plagiarism accusation can utterly destroy a writer. It only takes one instance to completely destroy your credibility. Coming out and throwing his middle finger in the air (figuratively speaking, of course) and daring Jason - and the entire internet, for that matter, by saying this in a public video - to go through his work history and dig up more examples most definitely didn't help his cause. The issue is that even if he didn't make that bold "Come at me ya pricks!" statement, I'd imagine there'd still be plenty of people out there that have nothing better to do than to wander down that rabbit hole and start finding stuff considering how big of a scandal this was in the first place. Hell, I'd imagine there'd be plenty of people digging through his past work even if he had come out and made an honest, genuine "I was under pressure to meet a deadline, so I did the inexcusable and took someone else's review" apology to try and throw people off his trail.
Yep if he hadn’t said that then there would’ve been a slim chance that he could’ve found some work in journalism (after laying low and disappearing from the ether for a long time). He’s gonna need to find a new industry of work entirely now lol
Wow the balls on this guy, basically daring the internet to find more examples...knowing full well there are tons out there?? Has he never heard of 4Chan ?? Get used to saying "Would you like fries with that?"
I think its because his delusional hit next level long ago. By that I mean he was doing this for so long that he literally believed for real he is doing his 100% own work. Its like notorious liar who did start believing his own lies at some point.
i wonder what his thought process was by asking for people to do it. his apology was either just so much denial that he believed he wasn't in the wrong or just so much arrogance that he thought he could get away with the rest.
I can't even conceive the level of narcissism needed to not only patronize the person you plagiarized but to attack and challenge a journalist knowing you've been plagiarising for years. Dude's whole career was a sham and his non-apology was disgusting. This guy is the reason the word "douchebag" was invented.
He either forgot how much he had actually plagiarised or has convinced himself over the years into believing all the stuff he wrote over the years was his own original work. Or he's just a psychopath without a sense of consequences. "Catch me if you can!"- gets caught-"Uh...oh."
にゃあエイリアンMeowAlien he should quite whatever he was trying before and just embrace being a meme and personality. Might do him some good and find some work as his days in journalism are now over
He had what alot of us would consider a dream job. Talking about video games for a living. This isn't meant as an insult to reviewers, but it's not rocket science to write a half decent review of a game. You play the game yourself, and write your opinions down about it. There's no need to plagiarise anything, especially so obviously.
If ten thousand people wrote what they felt and thought, maybe 10 of those reviews would engage others to read it with enthusiasm. But only 3 of those people writing it would have the extensive knowledge of other games/pop culture to make relevant and interesting comparisons. And only 1 of them would be able to write at that level of quality consistently. And that 1 person would need the motivation and interest in covering games they don't particularly enjoy, because in the end it's a job.
I suspect the average gamer would get bored of having to always play games at the pace required to keep churning out reviews. I estimate he saves at least a few days of work by plagiarizing another review.
It's pretty typical of bad actors like this that when confronted with their misdeeds they deny everything and try to discredit their accusers. He knows if he owns up, he's done. As it is, he might be able to cling to a few supporters who refuse to accept the facts.
This went from bad to disgusting really dang fast, that man's carrer is completely destroyed, good luck with your new face, name and youtube channel buddy its back to the RUclips algorithm jungle for you. The resume bit really got me off guard, holy Shet dude...
Robert Morris They have templates built-in Microsoft Word as well. Their purpose is generally just to help people build their resume and make them look neat. What the website should have done is use Lorum Ipsum text.
Few things to think about in regards to the internet. If it exists, someone will find it. If you post it, it is there forever. If you want something to go away, don't draw attention to that fact or you'll just make it bigger.
Yup...ya know my old religion teacher had this saying that could be said for various situations.. “lying is like stretching a rubber band...eventually it’s gonna snap and come back to sting you”
What's sad is that it looks like he's not even aware of how bad he's plagiarizing other works. I think its become an embedded nature for him to just casually copy and paste other people's words. You ever do something for so long and so often and nobody corrects you? Hopefully this is a wake-up call for him.
As a graduate of a journalism program, the very first thing we lerned, the very first day , was if you plagiarize someone's work, you will be fired immediately, and never be published again, anywhere!
@SuperSimba6 l totally agree with you man. The internet is like a woman, they remember what you did on the 5th of August 2018 at 6:30pm. I plagiarized that from somewhere.
Andre A the internet is people with nothing but time who argue amongst themselves more often than not and he gave then a common enemy. He learned nothing from EA
It's not even part of his LinkedIn profile. His entire description for his BAA at CSU SM is lifted from CSU San Marcos's Mass Media B.A. Brochure for 2012-2014. His description for his 2010-2014 time for an Associate's at Palomar College for Mass Media is actually a definition/description for computer science, listed from ad-ridden site StudentReviews for computer science. It's not even a blurb about communication or media studies.
Jessie Cruz Those who steal the intellectual property of others deserve punishment and also will naturally lose credibility. Who trusts a thief and a liar?
Toxic Boy I mean seriously ign after the review had a lot of hate but 1 day after they handled the problem so well they now have respect for for what they did, Fillip could’ve apologized and admit his other cases of plagiarism
He covers gaming news and this is gaming news so I don't care if he covers it once or ten times aslong as it's truth, and obviously new information must be discussed not ten times the same only worded differently.
Raphael Delima Honestly this would be a lot more convincing then the normal warning 😂, in College they threaten expulsion, but in the real world you lose your career 😅
Raphael Delima It is funny that you mention this because I actually suggested this to a professor I know to show to students whenever the discussion of Plagiarism is brought up. I cannot tell you how many students suddenly realized how big of a deal this is. Because, a lot of it sadly is done due to shortcuts/ laziness. That does not diminish the severity, but really emphasizes that all it takes is one simple mistake that can ruin everything for you. And in the case of Filip, his days as a games journalist is done. Nobody will hire him. His RUclips channel, I doubt will even garner steam, outside the backlash. Heck, I even see him doing non-gaming work to be hard given how recent this story is. Maybe, down the line, but this all emphasize one thing. NEVER, plagiarize. It not only is harmful/ disrespectful to those who put in the hard work, but it ruins lives. And can be very difficult to come back from.
Ya less Mental more just thought he was too good to get caught. You know shame of it is the pos would have likely made a halfway decent talent scout or something.
300-I.Q. Prower Some idiot will call it “creative entrepreneur-ship” and “a fuck them attitude” and will hire him. It’ll be like a huge “we’re fuckheads here” target on the company so keep an eye out
Maybe, maybe not. Fanboys can be blind, they swallow crap like this and believe everything their idol says. He could very well just use this to further improve his fame and click rate. After all tons of channels thrive on the hate. After all a view's a view right?
What fanboys is this guy going to have? There is so much backed up evidence against this guy that it's more likely he'll have a bunch of haters going around trying to ruin any chance he has at getting a new job. Any google search that a company is going to do is going to be about his plagiarism. This guy doesn't have a fanbase anyways because he was just another writer on IGN's staff and barely got any views on his channel anyways. This guy has just became another punching bag on the internet, just like what Phil Fish turned into.
There are websites you can copy and paste excerpts into that will tell you if plagiarism is suspected. It's hard to believe IGN never once attempted this. Even my high school English teachers had us submit all of our papers through a site such as that. Sure, it's not always accurate, but I'm positive it could have caught at least SOMETHING he had worked on in the past.
My guess is that he plagiarized in school, got away with it, and thought he could get through his adult life that way too. Well, when reality hits; it hits hard. Welcome to the real world philip.
avirx8 I plagarized once way back in middle School; I got away with it but immediately realized that was only because my teacher was an idiot, haven't done it since.
I just wanted to thank you, Yong. You've become an integral part of my daily RUclips experience in the past years and I can't imagine it without your videos anymore. Thanks for being such an open and genuine guy! Keep up the good work
cheated through school and college. its kinda the only option he has at that point lol. either admit he cheated through his life, which im pretty sure happened, or continue cheating at work. because he had a degree he didnt earn he didnt actually know how to do the job. he knew how to plagiarize papers from obscure sources so college professors wont notice. he didnt learn how to actually write. so if he didnt plagiarize his articles they would be terrible and he would lose his job. but you cant fool the internetx not forever. there are too many people, someones gonna notice something eventually.
*BREAKING NEWS* This just in: It turns out that not only is Filip a plagiarist, but "Filip", isn't even his true name- He's stolen the identity of another man who has come forward after so many years to re-claim the identity that is rightfully his. Real Filip: It's been hell! No one would believe me when I said that I'm the real Filip Miucin. I just want my life back! *More at 7*
Well, this guy’s career is completely in the toilet. I feel bad for him, honestly, but I cannot deny that he’s totally getting what he deserves. He has NOBODY to blame but himself. He’s been digging a hole ever since his career started, but now he’s finally hit rock bottom and his shovel’s broken.
It's generally not a good idea to celebrate someone losing their job, as that's just a shitty situation. But I'd be lying if I wasn't happy that the games journalism crowd just got a but more honest overall
No need to feel sorry for him at this point. He stole and lied to people for years, including his friends, employers, and fans. Worse-case scenario, he's barred from working in journalism for life, and that would in no way be unfair to him. It's precisely what he deserves. It's not like he's going to prison, he's just being shut out of one field. He can still work and lead a normal life like everyone else. He'll be fine. I feel sorry for everyone around him that has to pick up the pieces and deal with the aftermath.
I like Yong, but sometimes I feel he purposely elongates a video to 10 minutes to maximize ad revenue. And so the first 2 to 3 minutes consist of information the majority of us already knows.
@@WisdomInEverything i can see that he seems to do this on purpose, but idont blame him, RUclips adsense is down for many creators, i remember seeing two popular vloggers recently say that they get 80-150 dollars for a single video with 100k views
Huey Freeman / omensoffate --- It's only milking a story if you keep making reviews/videos about something that hasn't developed and/or with *nothing* new to add about it... And it's a tricky thing here on YT - making a video as stand alone as possible adds a narrative that even new viewers can follow along to... And sometimes it's good to have a quick recap anyway! Some of us are pushing our mid thirties here. ;-) *AND* one can always skip through the small talk anyways - and likewise microwave their Poptarts instead of heating them in the toaster - because they obviously need to squeeze as much time efficiency as possible into their lives. #eyeroll
@@omensoffate wrong. Some people like me, who havent seen his previous videos about this, who knew nothing about the whole debacle, was able to follow his line of thought because we were given a short recap.
MunkyDrag0n from what I seen. It basically is. If you die you go back to the beginning. Just play it til you die then , then write 1 small paragraph saying it's hard 😂
As someone who has written a few reviews for various free forums like on Steam and stuff (not professionally) it _is_ work but it isn't the hardest work in the world. The actual difficulty comes from trying to review a game like Dark Souls when you can't figure out how to get past or to the first 3 bosses. Some games are just too hard for the average joe and the average game reviewer is still an average joe just with writing skills and some knowledge of what a video game is. Like I just caught a glimpse of a review from a magazine for Hyrule Warriors and it lambasted the game for not having a good story or puzzles. There are NO puzzles in Dynasty Warrior games...in case you didn't realize what I was getting at. You have to know the genre of the game, what the standards are for that genre. I don't play racing games so I wouldn't know a good racing or sports game if it bit me in the ass. But I do know cRPGs, jRPGs, FPS, RTS, TBS, and other game genres. This is part of the reason there is a huge disconnect between games journalism and reality. These are people with writing skills on their resume not gaming skills.
the guy wasn't a big enough person to humble himself and deal with the consequences in a public setting. instead he chose to dig his own grave by deluding himself into thinking his plagiarisms were undetectable masterworks of deceptive journalism. the guy's either got the biggest balls ever, or his brain lacks those all-important frontal lobes. either way, glad he's ousted himself from the larger video game community. there's so much ass-hattery in this industry, it seems, you'll never run out of content to make!
The ratio of ass-hat to real professional is like 1000 to 1 and the reason I don't read Kotaku, IGN, Destructoid, RPS, and instead watch this channel, Sterling, SidAlpha and others.
I'm fairly certain he doesn't understand what plagiarism is. His apology video is basically the last thing a knowingly guilty person would do. Don't get me wrong, he's guilty as sin, but he doesn't actually understand what he did that makes him guilty. He talks about his process for reviewing games, basically describing how he reads/watches a bunch of other reviews as "research" - then claims that's standard practice. He's the drug dealer who calls the cops because someone stole his stash, unwittingly confessing his own crime. Worst of all, calling out Kotaku and the entire internet to review his works is just not something a person trying to hide their past transgressions would ever do. My guess is he thinks reading a bunch of other people's stuff, picking out the bits he likes, and stitching them together into "his version" IS original writing. He more than likely got through school doing this, never got caught, and just kept it up into his professional career.
"A few days later, Philip shot himself......" O-o "......in the foot..." Oy vey. I don't know if there was a little bit of a pause in there or something but boy did that snap me to attention.
Ign can most definitely be called a career as many outlets use them to get "reviews" and they review more than just games they also host many shows and even do interviews with celebrities, they're really branching out, doesn't make them a wanted career but it helps pay the bills
I'm sorry, I'm not used to Kotaku doing anything remotely close to being considered "good". But yeah this Jason dude seems like a pretty good journalist.
Dan oz dude you can copy someones work word for word as long as you provide a source and put it in quotations it's okay. Did Filip even go to college or at least high school? That's one of the most important things your English teacher stresses.
Dan oz Ok i think i need to edit the comment and clear things out as it does not look clear, but that is Filip's tweets from 2014, I wasn't trying to lump him with academics lol, its down right insulting.
This guys response on Twitter to anyone who confronts him is instablock. This guy deserves to not work in this industry again and gives a bad name to any good people in games journalism.
If you listen to the part of his non-apology video where he talks about research and everybody doing it this way, he also clearly says that he's done this before. He obviously doesn't admit plagiarism but what he says means the same thing.
I was willing to give this guy some benefit of doubt. I was willing to believe the dead cells review might have been an isolated incident. You could even say that some of the other stuff was just him forgetting to site a source. However when he specifically says that something is his own research and then just reads someone elses text word for word you know he is just a pure scumbag. There is no way around that. He even mispronounced the word "actuator" for crying out loud.
I wasn't ever willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when I first heard. His Dead Cells review had the exact same messages at the exact same minute marks between both videos.
Don't get me wrong. The firing was called for with just the dead cells incident. I was thinking more on how people were saying that he should never be able work in the industry again. Now that we know he is a copy/paste douchebag yeah he should not be allowed to do any journalist work for quite a while.
Jussi Järvinen to be fair he was in a professional position a d we as people hold them to a higher standard and they know that. Being fired was the right call and saying he shouldn't work in the industry again was fair on this offense since you know anyone lesser would get the same punishment
Well his career was built entirely on lies, it was only a matter of time until he got caught. But yeah, that "apology" was like throwing a bucket full of gasoline to quench a fire. Last nail in the coffin of his career.
@ Zeltron I'm 41 and semi retired, I was claiming half benefits and the job centre said to carry on receiving them I had to find some part time work and got in touch with Micky D's on my behalf. Hope that clears it up :)
@ Drinker of milk. I don't mind at all, I still find it funny that Micky D's hired me and continues to keep me on their books for two years and still counting! :)
Where have you been this past years. If anything, journalists have shown us it's impossible for them to play and form a tought at the same time (Cup Head), this guy is the icing on the cake.
You'd have a greater chance at hitting the lottery than coincidentally relaying most of those discussion points verbatim. Million to one. His career is officially dead.
Great response. As someone with a decades-old English degree, this sort of behavior baffles me. Someone should do a full history of *all* his writing, starting with his college degree, if he has one. Plagiarism is something that hurts everyone in arts and publishing. I'm glad you gave him a dressing-down at the end of your video.
Greyn, to be fair I was skeptical of the article because Kotaku being Kotaku but now that I know what Jason Schreier is like in the articles he writes it seems he is one of the few competent Kotaku writers.
maximaldinotrap I feel like that attitude towards Kotaku is something of the past, though I don't often read articles on that side. Schreier, though, is pretty much a separate entity at this point. Like Yong says in the video, I think, Schreier is one of the most respected people in the industry.
IGN should seriously consider suing him. They paid Flip to do work, he didn't do that work, and in not doing his job he has negatively affected the IGN site.
They have more than enough evidence to win too. But unless the guy's rich, it probably isn't worth the cost and additional publicity on a subject IGN would rather see buried.
I think Jessica will be fine. She has been presented as the victim of toxic male culture on videogames on the most relevant websites, so I doubt she will have any problem finding another job in the industry. In fact, I think the whole case has been has been beneficial to her.
Years ago in High School I was doing an Ancient History essay and in a rush I plagiarised nearly 70% of my paper from one of the secondary sources we would often reference, a source which turned out to be my history teachers favourite... I was called before my history teacher, the head of the social sciences department and the Principle and was taught directly the impact of plagiarism and was given my ONLY warning. I learned quickly that plagiarism is one of those things that not only gets you nowhere in life it can actually undo progress you've made.
Tbh, I was a lazy fuck in highschool and good with words....I became so good at it, 1-2 teachers became suspicious but could never prove it. On the other hand, it might have been the reason why I was good with words to begin with haha. However, having to rework everything often resulted in actually learning the topic at hand ^^
It’s easy to think at a younger age “what’s the big deal copying something” but in the world it’s taken extremely seriously and will get you in a lot of trouble no matter where you do it.
My AP physics teacher made us a write an abstract every 6-weeks. I was so lazy once that I literally copy pasted the article into word. She called me up to talk about it but it was because the article had some typos. Yeah she didn't care about school
Tbh, I still feel like it doesn't actually matter in school, because it's not like you get compensated for it in any way. The whole point is to learn a topic, and by writing it down you are forced to learn it, so not really much of a difference on if you put it into your own words or not. The rest of the class actually profits from it too instead of getting a possibly bad presentation that is missing important information, requiring them to work through every single topic from scratch themselves to pass exams later, they get all the info they need nearly compiled. Of course it's different in the real world, both while persuing a degree (because your own research is required for that and you get job opportunities as a reward) and in your job (because you get paid for it). I'm not saying I ever did it myself back when I was a student, but I also fail to see much of a problem with it in a school setting.
Kitty Jaws Gaming I only checked the game out cause of this drama. Love the game and is worth a 9/10 But it wasn't on my radar to buy and I would of missed it
Plagiarism is a pretty recurrent thing lately, huh? Here in Brazil we just got over an anime RUclipsr that was stealing content from RUclipsr "Mother's Basement", and reproducing it in our language. I sense a theme here, something tells me this is not the last we'll be seeing of content stealers.
It happens to bigger RUclipsrs all the time, I am extremely sure that every relatively large youtube personality has a double in another country doing their material.
Milbox R Trust me, I do. We have 60.000 murders here every year, yes, this number is right, and to top it all off, we now have a convicted criminal (who's in jail, by the way) running for presidency with more than 30% vote intention.
You do well to keep informing us about this. Please continue. In my opinion, if someone can't even write their thoughts and feelings with their own words, they're just useless. I mean, is it that hard to speak one's mind without having to plagiate somebody else's commentary ??... Writing and speaking are crucial in any field of work, but it's really not that difficult. It's a question of honesty and simply being yourself, and you learn that at school. Anybody that's unable to write their own texts and feel the need to use others' work are just screwing themselves up, and will never succeed in their life.
Could you try being a decent and productive member of society that cares about the well being of their peers around him some time? See if he copies that.
Yong why do you always apologize? Make as many videos as you want on any given topic. It personally doesn't bug me, and I am sure many others feel the same way.
For a long time I've been avoiding any videogame journalists reviews or opinions about videogames in general. I listen to YongYea and some other youtubers who talk about the videogame media, because videogame journalists thinks they're the pillars of what the videogame devs and players should follow and how videogame should be in the future. They barely know how to play videogames, talk about how badly they want to see their own political views on every game they cover, want to see PC views being add inside the games and the list goes on. After I read an article about AC: Creeds Origins and the current Egypt I seriously realized that it's really not worth the time.
The man reason I watch RUclipsrs like Yongyea, Jim Sterling, SidAlpha, AngryJoe and others is because they aren't terrified of publishers not sending them review copies (most of them, don't know about Joe) after giving a game a negative review. Games journalism is better done by the indie-guerrilla style than by traditional outlets because big publishers will black list people that don't give high enough scores and will send complaints to the journalism companies about negative reviews. So that is why it is a meme that IGN will give ANYTHING a 9/10.
I like watching video reviews from IGN, gamespot, before you buy, and the occasional unknown youtuber. Then after I make up my mind if I will buy the game or not. I dont watch ACG anymore cuz he is an asshole that insulted me one day for asking a dumb question. I never liked joe personally, his style isnt funny to me. Escapist is hilarious
squalltheonly I've followed ACG for a while now. If you were offended by his response to your question, you either asked a stupid question to begin with or you were trolling.
Never apologize Yong for presenting the news in all detail in a non bias, factual platform. We can choose not to watch but when you follow a story I can say in all confidence I know the news I'm getting is current, relative and relevant!
"As if to imply that plagiarism can happen by accident." Actually, coincidences are a thing and CAN happen. However, the chances of a coincidence like this happening with so many close similarities are very low, making it more likely that the copying was deliberate.
Rebellious Treecko yea I had a classmate in school, she was smart got all A's and B's yadda yadda, good kid and whatnot, anyways one time she wrote a paper and everyone had to put it through this site that would see if it was plagiarized, and it said her essay was 80% plagiarized and she was pretty annoyed to say the least
I agree coincidences are a thing, but as YongYea pointed out, even with one example, it was not only similarities in wording, but also timing and content structure that showed something was amiss. Filip is a plagiarizer.
Would love to give a double thumbs up. You brought it to the point. You couldn't of said it better. Probably nobody can say it more diplomatic with a sensible kick in the face. Thank you for your care. Filip, you messed up bad! Time to grow up! You will only come farther when you stick to what you have done wrong. Nobody likes denied crap that is for sure true!
EDIT: Good lord... how deep does this go? You know you're unhireable when you're even plagiarizing your resume...

My girlfriend of 7 years broke up with me and I’ve been unemployed since January. My life is great compared to Filip’s.
This was funny, but also... I'm sorry man. I know the feels. I recently got a job, so I can tell you if gets better.
Cheers, from the other end of the world.
Best of luck to you man

Thanks guys, appreciate the support. It’s super tough, but I’m hanging on... barely.
You dodged a bullet with the chick and now you have the chance to actually find something that’s right for you professionally... you’re right you’re way better than him. You have a blank canvas for painting your future
How did this guy blatantly copy people for so long? Jesus. Even freshmen know to at least change it up a bit when copying.
sad thing is no one thinks they gotta use an essay checker outside of school environments.
He did actually.
Aztec, what the fuck are you on about?
Link2124
I know right? Old people always complain about the new generation.
If we have it tough, then we need to ‘suck it up’ like they did, and if some things are easy, we are ‘entitled/lazy’. And god forbid if some of us are discontent with the way things are, for wanting to change the failures of our society, because then we are ‘spoiled’ and should just accept mediocrity. Fucking pricks.
this talk about plagiarism, and copying things
its kinda funny the guy was a former youtuber before joining IGN, since youtube is full of people copying each other, same structure etc, thro out all genres of youtube
Pardon the language, but as Blade once said:
"Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill."
Who didnt read this in his voice?
Old Greybeard he saw someone else's review and decided to "USE IT"
Deo Lan it's possible to not read that in the voice of Blade?
Hah, I always use that quote :D
That, and the 'Nobody hits harder then life' quote from Rocky Balboa.

He's not sorry for doing it, but sorry he was caught .
Never apologize for covering ANY story. We are here because of your content. Keep em coming. New info should always be welcome.

Yep if he hadn’t said that then there would’ve been a slim chance that he could’ve found some work in journalism (after laying low and disappearing from the ether for a long time). He’s gonna need to find a new industry of work entirely now lol

Ronald Flump lesson learned, don't challenge the internet :^).
He did kind of ask for it, both in the sense that he's a plagiarist, and that he literally asked people to find examples of him committing plagiarism.
He couldn't satisfy with just having one review called out, he wanted his entire collection on display lmao
Literally asked Kotaku to keep looking...while keeping his youtube channel up with videos of even more plagiarised stuff. Just unnecessarily stupid.

Pando not only that but he tried to talk shit to one of the most respected journalists in our field. Fuck him
errr. lance armstrong? lol pretty funny
He either forgot how much he had actually plagiarised or has convinced himself over the years into believing all the stuff he wrote over the years was his own original work.
Or he's just a psychopath without a sense of consequences. "Catch me if you can!"- gets caught-"Uh...oh."
From now on in Avery dictionary/encyclopedia should be added a photo of him beside the words Douchbag, Plagiarism and every synonym available.

I am honestly blown away at how fucking dumb he was in that video
He had what alot of us would consider a dream job. Talking about video games for a living. This isn't meant as an insult to reviewers, but it's not rocket science to write a half decent review of a game. You play the game yourself, and write your opinions down about it. There's no need to plagiarise anything, especially so obviously.
Indeed. I really can't understand why he did this.
Scott Dixon
S
MRM 70 seriously just write what you feel it's not that hard

What's sad is that it looks like he's not even aware of how bad he's plagiarizing other works. I think its become an embedded nature for him to just casually copy and paste other people's words. This is Phillip.
Phillip plagiarises.
Don't be like Phillip.
That'd be way more effective

This industry? Try any job outside of McDonald's... maybe not even then
There's far more industries than one which is a good thing for him, fame can be obtained as easily as its lost. People forget really fast.
It's actually scary how much plagiarism he got away with until now
He took forum comments and small time reviewers so he thinks he can get away with it because due to small reader base.
Kederen these "plagiarism checkers" tend to be pretty poor quality
Kederen I doubt that would of checked in forum posts and video reviews....

Oh, his shovel's broken. But I'm sure he's gonna keep digging anyway.
Hex Flareheart No doubt. A coward lies until he can lie no more.

SunSilk lol
No need to feel sorry for him at this point. He stole and lied to people for years, including his friends, employers, and fans.
Worse-case scenario, he's barred from working in journalism for life, and that would in no way be unfair to him. It's precisely what he deserves. It's not like he's going to prison, he's just being shut out of one field. He can still work and lead a normal life like everyone else. He'll be fine. I feel sorry for everyone around him that has to pick up the pieces and deal with the aftermath.
You don't have to apologize for updating a news story. That's how journalism works, and only morons would have a problem with it.
Yeah but it might also come off as milking a story for views.
Some of us are pushing our mid thirties here. ;-)
*AND* one can always skip through the small talk anyways - and likewise microwave their Poptarts instead of heating them in the toaster - because they obviously need to squeeze as much time efficiency as possible into their lives. #eyeroll
@@omensoffate wrong. Some people like me, who havent seen his previous videos about this, who knew nothing about the whole debacle, was able to follow his line of thought because we were given a short recap.

I kind of wonder what exactly he did at work if he just stole other people's work. I'm guessing Facebook and Twitter.
thatguy youkno My thoughts exactly
But Dead Cells is soooooo hard! DX -Filip
This guy is done.......wow.
Uncle Sam like ah salmon
Just like James Gunn one simple mistake (by bothering the wrong person) and downhill their careers go as more and more evidence is piling up.
the guy wasn't a big enough person to humble himself and deal with the consequences in a public setting. instead he chose to dig his own grave by deluding himself into thinking his plagiarisms were undetectable masterworks of deceptive journalism. the guy's either got the biggest balls ever, or his brain lacks those all-important frontal lobes. either way, glad he's ousted himself from the larger video game community. there's so much ass-hattery in this industry, it seems, you'll never run out of content to make!
The ratio of ass-hat to real professional is like 1000 to 1 and the reason I don't read Kotaku, IGN, Destructoid, RPS, and instead watch this channel, Sterling, SidAlpha and others.
No just entitled millennial syndrome
Jim26D not even millennials are that dumb
I’d go with the second part. He seems pretty stupid.
Fillip: If you find anything please let me know.
Internet: Lol K
He even plagiarized the name Philip. "Filip" lmao
Sev-007 not to mention his last name sounds very similar to "mucin", the protein that mixes with water to form mucus.
Lol good one 😂😂😂
Sev-007 Lmao good one 😂😂😂
i know it is a joke :D but in my country Filip is the correct form of name :D
Michal Lošonský he plagiarized from your country :O
"A few days later, Philip shot himself......"
O-o
"......in the foot..."
Oy vey. I don't know if there was a little bit of a pause in there or something but boy did that snap me to attention.
TVJUNK85 i did have enough time to say "jesus christ!" before he continued with the sentence.
yea i did a double take when he said that.....kinda pushing it with the pause.
I was shocked for a second. I could see this guy taking the ultimate cowards way out after his cowards way out video
honestly wouldn't shock me.
Jesus this guy's career is officially destroyed
Ryan Liu
Time to flip burgers and clean hotel rooms
Hes gonna plagiarize the burgers and copy the schematics for the hotel rooms and sell them
>Implying being a "full-time" RUclipsr or working at IGN is a "career".
More than destroyed, utterly wiped from existence.
He ain't a people person, but he does good work.
YEP, this guy is done & congrats for immortalization as plagiarist meme on the internet.
Croz Raven #dontbethisguy and then have his face in it lol
"If you steal from one author it's plagiarism; if you steal from many it's research." -Wilson Mizner
-Filip's tweets from2014
AHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHA
I mean it is somewhat right
You steal idea for 100 people work for 1 of your work
It should be 100:1 not 1:1 lol
The important thing is citing, its like difference between retweeting and reposting
Dan oz Yes, its absolutely comical, reddit dug that up and that tweet have tons of new replies flooding in to laugh at it
This guys response on Twitter to anyone who confronts him is instablock. This guy deserves to not work in this industry again and gives a bad name to any good people in games journalism.
I love watching This guy get deeper into the hole. Camt wait for the next update on this
This why one case of plagiarism is never just one. There is ALWAYS more.
Jussi Järvinen Murphy's law states anything that can happen will happen but this guy fucked up
Jussi Järvinen yah, the same. I thought he could not finish Dead cells,,since the game is pretty hardcore. nope....
Two words:
Career.
Suicide.
All in full display
It's pretty likely at this point.
Well his career was built entirely on lies, it was only a matter of time until he got caught. But yeah, that "apology" was like throwing a bucket full of gasoline to quench a fire. Last nail in the coffin of his career.
Drinker_Of_Milk That's a little bit much XD
Drinker_Of_Milk
nah thats too far
Filip:"Come at me bro"
Jason:"lol k"
Even his monetised apology was plagiarised from TmarTn minus a dog.
For real?
Tmartn's wasn't as bad (plus he had a dog).
leodf1 FXCK you're dumb
Dogs are always a plus.
now Filip can copy recipes from the McDonalds he will next be working at
I think he'll struggle to even get hired there at this point.
@ Peter Mc Connell. Are you kidding me? They hired me and I wasn't even looking for a job! :)
Not if the manager there watches gaming videos on RUclips he won't.
Broomstick Gaming is doing very well now. Good to know some good came from this.
tylerthe20 can't say no to some 2d Dark Souls
Dr . Wub Ayyy my guy Sanwich.
His pronunciation of “actuator” in his rumble video should’ve thrown some red flags, he literally said act-u-ator, yea totally his own research lol 😂
ShredHouse Gaming The moment I heard that I was like "You've never even heard of that word, have you?"
AzureRaven lol reminded me of Shia lebouf’s blunder with “epitome”(no idea how to spell his name) but he literally said ep-it-tome
Haha, that definitely was one of the most painful yet hilarious parts of the video. Serves him right, I’d have to say....
The funniest bit for me was at 4:05 when he mispronounced ‘actuators’. At least replace the words you don’t know man.
How hard is it to play a videogame and talk about how you feel about it lol...
Where have you been this past years. If anything, journalists have shown us it's impossible for them to play and form a tought at the same time (Cup Head), this guy is the icing on the cake.
He probably never played a game since his resume was plagiarize too
You'd have a greater chance at hitting the lottery than coincidentally relaying most of those discussion points verbatim. Million to one. His career is officially dead.
Omae wa mo shindeiru really applies to his reputation doesn't it?
Ehh he'll probably join into the fucking mentally ill millennial clique of Salon or Mary Sue whatever.
This kid doesn't have a future in gaming or journalism of any form. Sadly, this is also hysterical to watch.
I bet he *plagiarize* his own name.
I bet he plagiarizes his own thoughts.
Probably, there is a small RUclipsr called flippy.
Charlie Lainez I bet he plagiarized his own birth certificate
I bet he plagiarized his own heritage.
Filip probably stole a template for his apology video.
Rocket Propelled Games it actually felt a lot like the CSGO Lotto dude’s apology.
orangeapples is that the guy who got caught cheating in pro league?
Crystalgames1211 no it's the skin scamer
Should be top comment lol
GarethXL thanks🖒🙃
Quite the balls on this fellow if he's seriously attacking Jason Schreier.
Or just seriously stupid.
maximaldinotrap he's hella respected in the industry.
IGN should seriously consider suing him. They paid Flip to do work, he didn't do that work, and in not doing his job he has negatively affected the IGN site.
Also, he lied on his resume by plagiarizing it. Like, WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL???
no one takes ign seriously regardless
They have more than enough evidence to win too. But unless the guy's rich, it probably isn't worth the cost and additional publicity on a subject IGN would rather see buried.
TheNzFox There is no law suit here, at all. Sorry.
Joe Sterling It'd be worth it as a deterrent from others doing it in the future.
Once a snake, always a snake 🐍
Dan c Snake? SNAKE?? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!?
Sorry, but it's sadly not often that you can make a metal gear reference these days
..... Must... resist.... singing Snake Eater......
Ostrava Nah man, just give in! It's allowed 😂
Dan c
That’s a good name
I approve
Xarello111 damn 2 minutes too late XD
Jessica Price: I made the biggest career blunder of 2018
Filip: Hold my beer.
Keno Clayton Well played sir, well played
Ah damn, that was a good laugh, thank you.
Yeah this is worse than Jessica.
Too soon.
I think Jessica will be fine. She has been presented as the victim of toxic male culture on videogames on the most relevant websites, so I doubt she will have any problem finding another job in the industry. In fact, I think the whole case has been has been beneficial to her.
0:52 "a few days later, filip miucin shot himself..." wtf that escalated
"... in the foot" oh
Just a note:
Principle - concept or value that is a guide for behavior or evaluation
Principal - head of an educational facility
Deadcells is prolly celebrating this entire thing
Ya. Never heard of the game before
I thought it was already out since I had it on steam didn't realize it was early access. I'll prolly pick it up for switch it's a damn good game
Kitty Jaws Gaming yeah the one thing that has been constant in this whole story is that dead cells is a good game.
Watch them make an Easter egg out of this
Kitty Jaws Gaming I only checked the game out cause of this drama.
Vitor Labes Brazil? Oof make sure to cover your asp
Milbox R Trust me, I do. We have 60.000 murders here every year, yes, this number is right, and to top it all off, we now have a convicted criminal (who's in jail, by the way) running for presidency with more than 30% vote intention.
@@milboxr9772 lol
@@milboxr9772 *evidence based defensive trainer*
You do well to keep informing us about this. Please continue.
In my opinion, if someone can't even write their thoughts and feelings with their own words, they're just useless. I mean, is it that hard to speak one's mind without having to plagiate somebody else's commentary ??...
Writing and speaking are crucial in any field of work, but it's really not that difficult. It's a question of honesty and simply being yourself, and you learn that at school. Anybody that's unable to write their own texts and feel the need to use others' work are just screwing themselves up, and will never succeed in their life.
"A few days later, Philip shot himself-"
Wait what?
"-in the foot."
Oh thank god.
04whim lol i had the same thought
Actually I shot myself in the foot a month ago. He just copied me..
Could you try being a decent and productive member of society that cares about the well being of their peers around him some time? See if he copies that.
Yong why do you always apologize? Make as many videos as you want on any given topic. It personally doesn't bug me, and I am sure many others feel the same way.
Tymerc some people think he's milking the story as much as he can for views
I feel the same way I love to hear this guy talk he's dope
Tymerc I love how we follow a story all the way through.
Is just a smart use of predicting obviously stupid criticism
He has pangs of a conscience that he feels he is milking the situation, so I can empathize.
OMG IKR These journalists can be so out of touch
The man reason I watch RUclipsrs like Yongyea, Jim Sterling, SidAlpha, AngryJoe and others is because they aren't terrified of publishers not sending them review copies (most of them, don't know about Joe) after giving a game a negative review. Games journalism is better done by the indie-guerrilla style than by traditional outlets because big publishers will black list people that don't give high enough scores and will send complaints to the journalism companies about negative reviews. So that is why it is a meme that IGN will give ANYTHING a 9/10.
Kevin McGuin ever heard of escapist? hands down greatest RUclips channel on gaming
IGN: "This video really makes you feel like plagiarizing"
leonthesleepy Copyman Kappa
Knack 2 babyyyy
leonthesleepy watch out,he might plagiarise this joke.
They need to sue him for damaging IGN, Jesus Christ I know IGN isn’t popular with people but damn they don’t deserve this.
"As if to imply that plagiarism can happen by accident."
Actually, coincidences are a thing and CAN happen.
However, the chances of a coincidence like this happening with so many close similarities are very low, making it more likely that the copying was deliberate.
Rebellious Treecko I was thinking what if that was his forum account xd
Rebellious Treecko yea I had a classmate in school, she was smart got all A's and B's yadda yadda, good kid and whatnot, anyways one time she wrote a paper and everyone had to put it through this site that would see if it was plagiarized, and it said her essay was 80% plagiarized and she was pretty annoyed to say the least
I agree coincidences are a thing, but as YongYea pointed out, even with one example, it was not only similarities in wording, but also timing and content structure that showed something was amiss. Filip is a plagiarizer.
Rebellious Treecko there are no coincidences
There are so many valuables for an actual coincidence to happen. When it does happen it just dumb luck.
