      I know right? Old people always complain about the new generation.
      If we have it tough, then we need to ‘suck it up’ like they did, and if some things are easy, we are ‘entitled/lazy’. And god forbid if some of us are discontent with the way things are, for wanting to change the failures of our society, because then we are ‘spoiled’ and should just accept mediocrity. Fucking pricks.

    • @ruggedlemmings9163

      I doubt it, even one definitively provable plagiarism accusation can utterly destroy a writer. It only takes one instance to completely destroy your credibility. Coming out and throwing his middle finger in the air (figuratively speaking, of course) and daring Jason - and the entire internet, for that matter, by saying this in a public video - to go through his work history and dig up more examples most definitely didn't help his cause.
      The issue is that even if he didn't make that bold "Come at me ya pricks!" statement, I'd imagine there'd still be plenty of people out there that have nothing better to do than to wander down that rabbit hole and start finding stuff considering how big of a scandal this was in the first place. Hell, I'd imagine there'd be plenty of people digging through his past work even if he had come out and made an honest, genuine "I was under pressure to meet a deadline, so I did the inexcusable and took someone else's review" apology to try and throw people off his trail.

    He had what alot of us would consider a dream job. Talking about video games for a living. This isn't meant as an insult to reviewers, but it's not rocket science to write a half decent review of a game. You play the game yourself, and write your opinions down about it. There's no need to plagiarise anything, especially so obviously.

      If ten thousand people wrote what they felt and thought, maybe 10 of those reviews would engage others to read it with enthusiasm.
      But only 3 of those people writing it would have the extensive knowledge of other games/pop culture to make relevant and interesting comparisons.
      And only 1 of them would be able to write at that level of quality consistently.
      And that 1 person would need the motivation and interest in covering games they don't particularly enjoy, because in the end it's a job.

    • @takatamiyagawa5688

      I suspect the average gamer would get bored of having to always play games at the pace required to keep churning out reviews. I estimate he saves at least a few days of work by plagiarizing another review.

      Raphael Delima It is funny that you mention this because I actually suggested this to a professor I know to show to students whenever the discussion of Plagiarism is brought up. I cannot tell you how many students suddenly realized how big of a deal this is. Because, a lot of it sadly is done due to shortcuts/ laziness. That does not diminish the severity, but really emphasizes that all it takes is one simple mistake that can ruin everything for you.
      And in the case of Filip, his days as a games journalist is done. Nobody will hire him. His RUclips channel, I doubt will even garner steam, outside the backlash. Heck, I even see him doing non-gaming work to be hard given how recent this story is. Maybe, down the line, but this all emphasize one thing.
      NEVER, plagiarize. It not only is harmful/ disrespectful to those who put in the hard work, but it ruins lives. And can be very difficult to come back from.

      Huey Freeman / omensoffate --- It's only milking a story if you keep making reviews/videos about something that hasn't developed and/or with *nothing* new to add about it... And it's a tricky thing here on YT - making a video as stand alone as possible adds a narrative that even new viewers can follow along to... And sometimes it's good to have a quick recap anyway! Some of us are pushing our mid thirties here. ;-)

      @Xetelian 6 лет назад +33

      As someone who has written a few reviews for various free forums like on Steam and stuff (not professionally) it _is_ work but it isn't the hardest work in the world. The actual difficulty comes from trying to review a game like Dark Souls when you can't figure out how to get past or to the first 3 bosses. Some games are just too hard for the average joe and the average game reviewer is still an average joe just with writing skills and some knowledge of what a video game is.
      Like I just caught a glimpse of a review from a magazine for Hyrule Warriors and it lambasted the game for not having a good story or puzzles. There are NO puzzles in Dynasty Warrior games...in case you didn't realize what I was getting at.
      You have to know the genre of the game, what the standards are for that genre. I don't play racing games so I wouldn't know a good racing or sports game if it bit me in the ass. But I do know cRPGs, jRPGs, FPS, RTS, TBS, and other game genres.
      This is part of the reason there is a huge disconnect between games journalism and reality. These are people with writing skills on their resume not gaming skills.

      I'm fairly certain he doesn't understand what plagiarism is. His apology video is basically the last thing a knowingly guilty person would do. Don't get me wrong, he's guilty as sin, but he doesn't actually understand what he did that makes him guilty. He talks about his process for reviewing games, basically describing how he reads/watches a bunch of other reviews as "research" - then claims that's standard practice. He's the drug dealer who calls the cops because someone stole his stash, unwittingly confessing his own crime.
      Worst of all, calling out Kotaku and the entire internet to review his works is just not something a person trying to hide their past transgressions would ever do. My guess is he thinks reading a bunch of other people's stuff, picking out the bits he likes, and stitching them together into "his version" IS original writing. He more than likely got through school doing this, never got caught, and just kept it up into his professional career.

    Years ago in High School I was doing an Ancient History essay and in a rush I plagiarised nearly 70% of my paper from one of the secondary sources we would often reference, a source which turned out to be my history teachers favourite... I was called before my history teacher, the head of the social sciences department and the Principle and was taught directly the impact of plagiarism and was given my ONLY warning. I learned quickly that plagiarism is one of those things that not only gets you nowhere in life it can actually undo progress you've made.

      Tbh, I was a lazy fuck in highschool and good with words....I became so good at it, 1-2 teachers became suspicious but could never prove it. On the other hand, it might have been the reason why I was good with words to begin with haha. However, having to rework everything often resulted in actually learning the topic at hand ^^

      My AP physics teacher made us a write an abstract every 6-weeks. I was so lazy once that I literally copy pasted the article into word. She called me up to talk about it but it was because the article had some typos. Yeah she didn't care about school

    • @sleepysera
      @sleepysera 6 лет назад +1

      Tbh, I still feel like it doesn't actually matter in school, because it's not like you get compensated for it in any way. The whole point is to learn a topic, and by writing it down you are forced to learn it, so not really much of a difference on if you put it into your own words or not.
      The rest of the class actually profits from it too instead of getting a possibly bad presentation that is missing important information, requiring them to work through every single topic from scratch themselves to pass exams later, they get all the info they need nearly compiled.
      Of course it's different in the real world, both while persuing a degree (because your own research is required for that and you get job opportunities as a reward) and in your job (because you get paid for it).
      I'm not saying I ever did it myself back when I was a student, but I also fail to see much of a problem with it in a school setting.

Here in Brazil we just got over an anime RUclipsr that was stealing content from RUclipsr "Mother's Basement", and reproducing it in our language. You do well to keep informing us about this. Please continue.
    In my opinion, if someone can't even write their thoughts and feelings with their own words, they're just useless. I mean, is it that hard to speak one's mind without having to plagiate somebody else's commentary ??...
    Writing and speaking are crucial in any field of work, but it's really not that difficult. It's a question of honesty and simply being yourself, and you learn that at school. Anybody that's unable to write their own texts and feel the need to use others' work are just screwing themselves up, and will never succeed in their life.

    For a long time I've been avoiding any videogame journalists reviews or opinions about videogames in general. I listen to YongYea and some other youtubers who talk about the videogame media, because videogame journalists thinks they're the pillars of what the videogame devs and players should follow and how videogame should be in the future. They barely know how to play videogames, talk about how badly they want to see their own political views on every game they cover, want to see PC views being add inside the games and the list goes on. After I read an article about AC: Creeds Origins and the current Egypt I seriously realized that it's really not worth the time.

    • @Xetelian

      The man reason I watch RUclipsrs like Yongyea, Jim Sterling, SidAlpha, AngryJoe and others is because they aren't terrified of publishers not sending them review copies (most of them, don't know about Joe) after giving a game a negative review. Games journalism is better done by the indie-guerrilla style than by traditional outlets because big publishers will black list people that don't give high enough scores and will send complaints to the journalism companies about negative reviews. So that is why it is a meme that IGN will give ANYTHING a 9/10.
