He’s a bust in terms of hype. But he’s about as good as your average first round receiver ends up being, so he’s just fine tbh. (Edit: a lot are worse)
Hype busts would be a long list, every season. Crab had the sauce. The NFL wasn’t running spread attacks which favor guys who get open on short to medium routs. Crab got open allot.
@@Bosskarson Not to forget his prime was wasted with Alex Smith. As soon as Kaepernick came along he had his first 1k season. And it wasnt because he had broken out. It's just Alex never was the type to hit his wideouts

@@rizpatch5497 Sherman: don't you ever talk about me reporter: who was talking about you Sherman: Crabtree....don't you open your mouth about the best or imma shut it for you real quick....LOB
Injuries stole his speed and quickness, he's the NFL's Grant Hill and he was on the 49ers which was a run dominant team , so no receiver was gonna put up great numbers so even when the team was playing amazing no one receiver ever had great numbers . So at best their number one could put up was 800-1000 yards and 7 to 10 tds he was always somewhere in there when he was healthy . He was cut because of production it was they knew he was slowing down because of the repeated ankle injuries. Him and Anquan Boldin were pretty much the same receiver and both were never blazing fast so it was logical to keep both of them .
So he’s a bust yet he had multiple 1000 yard seasons and caught plenty of TDS. He’s not a super star but his NFL tape shows elite rout running and hands most receivers don’t have. His Speed was average and that’s what hurt him. Also entered the league before the spread was adopted by every team. Under the right OC crab would be a pro bowler. Not a long term star but in his prime years he broke allot of CBs ankles. He bothered CBs to the point of many extracurricular penalty’s so I’d say he was a great player. Either way he got the bags and will be in the TTU HOF, the CFB HOF, and possibly the TXHSF HOF.
Crabtree is one of my favorite WRs ever. Watching him in Oakland was great, that bum Cooper was the real bust if you ask me. Crabtree's toe drag is something that should be studied by college and pro players.
Heyward Bey was very disappointing, but dude played a decade in the NFL...even though he was way over drafted as he really only shined as a special teams ace. Crabtree had a nice career, never was a monster after those injuries sapped his skill set...When he went to the Ravens it was game over...Unfortunately he couldn't separate anymore and the Ravens have a high tendency for WRs to die there (I can only remember Mason, Boldin, Steve Smith as the only ones to succeed there)
I was a huge fan of crabtree bought his 9ers jersey. I think he didnt work hard enough in the NFL I never saw him elevate as a pro he was basically the same guy every year
He was a man amongst boys in college, then in the league he was just a man. Dudes he played against were faster and stronger. He never was a burner, he was more of a 50/50 ball guy, wasn't flashy, not a run after catch guy. His skill set just didn't make him stick out. He was good though, maybe if they force fed him more he would've put up bigger numbers.
Nah after that ankle injury in college he was never the same he was never a burner but was fast enough but he was technically sound rt runner which is why he was able to stick around the league
KING Crab played his heart out for my Raiders and i will forever be grateful for his effort for my team. Crab gets bashed on and he doesn't deserve it. Man was a stand up guy on and off the field. He single handedly won my Raiders over a dozen games in his time with us.

In today’s NFL Crabtree is killing it.
Crabtree was a bust because he played in a gimmicky offense in college and never really developed the ability to run the full route tree. Additionally, he was slow by NFL WR1 standards, only a 4.6 guy. He wasn’t twitchy, so it took him a long time to get in and out of his breaks, giving the CB time to jump his route and get a PBU.
Technically yeah.. he’s a bust and it SUCKs I was the biggest Crabtree fan in HS and college. Its like Richard Sherman ruined his name around the lg after that incident. Also you didn’t mention that foot Injury before his rookie season it definitely stunted him
He got drafted in an offense that was always run first. If he got drafted in any other team, he would have developed. You can throw Justin Jefferson in SF in 2023 and he wouldn’t look like the best receiver in the world.
Its not his fault why he left the Raider's. Its the Raider's organization that dont know what a good player is, even if it bit Mark Davis on the d.... But Mark Davis sure in the hell knows a bad b.... when he sees one. Lol
Michael Crabtree was the best receiver for the Raiders. because Raider's had a good QB that knows how to find a open receiver. Miss Crabtree the QB makes the receiver good.

Thank You for the great video! And, Thank You for all the time you put into your research - well done, Sir! I remember following Crabtree through the whole combine that year and how popular of a pick he was going to be in the 2009 NFL draft. As others have stated in the comments, I don’t feel he was a bust either. But I think it may come down to that he was so successful & gifted in college football because he was playing against players that 97% of them were not going to move onto the NFL they didn’t have that type of talent . So someone like Crabtree is playing college football he easily excels over the rest of the players simply for that fact. Then he gets into the NFL where a lot of the players have the same talent if not a greater talent than he does hence he is not excelling as much as a talented football player. I apologize for rambling lol! Did any of that make sense lol?!
Crabtree was a great NFL player. Not his fault he got drafted to a shit football team. They had maybe two winning seasons. throughout his career with some no name QBs.
The man was legit but came into a bad situation early with Alex Smith and the horrible coaching and when he got going with Kaepernick he was tearing it up, he trashed Patrick Peterson every game but unlucky he got hurt and never got his juice back
I think the karma from the hold out kind of hung over him but his career was ok just not great especially with the injuries which was another overall factor...if he caught those passes to win the superbowl though it would have made up for any of the underhypeness he ever received but not everyone is a jerry rice.
