you would need 80 turns minimum, and centre loaded (mid loaded), as well you would need to add another 2" diameter pipe at bottom as wellas a match (13 turn) at feed point..

Did this end up working mate?

Not that well mate. I dont have anything up for 160 now. I do use an inverted L for 80m though.

@@VK3IK No worries, that is why it is Amateur Radio - we try things and sometimes they work. Yes looking for a 160 option, I was hoping this would work. Good videos mate.

Hey Chris, sell up and move to a place where you can go sick with antennas, preferably out of VK3, best thing I ever did was to move to VK4 on acreage. Could never go back to a suburban block and think seriously about amateur radio, way to much BS to contend with. Good luck with your 160m endeavours

    Hi Chris ...
How have you got on with that copper tube and tapped off ... currently building 160m vertical with spiderbeam 12m poles ...
that copper seems a good idea for tapping off ... Mike M0CSI ...

      Hi Paul,
the copper worked ok but the coil needs to be bigger (longer). I dont have the 160 up any more. I have got a 5/8 GP up for 6m.

I like your loading coil. It wouldn't have much loss, that's for sure! I was thinking you should have made it twice as long for good measure :) use it then as a general puropse loading coil for the lower HF bands so you can play with different size vertical elements and capacity hat arrangements. Anyway, how did you get on? I tried to find an update video (I'm interested in how it worked) but it seems the project hasn't got that far.

Dazz your right it didnt go that far. I have put a 5/8 GP for 6m up in its place.

Mate, get you the book ON4UN. It will change your life! If you are really serious about low band DXing. BTW the reason it did not work well is the coil needs to be higher than lower, also use a 'T' formation as the shape will get you more gain.

hey dude can you give me the specifications to make that antenna, and that measures, please

Hey mate. I just looked at plans and videos of other peoples inverted L's. Used what I had laying around. I think the could needs to be way bigger and the horizontal wire longer. Sorry I am not being specific but it was very experimental.

Richard the antenna is no longer up. It worked ok. Once the tower is up I will look into 160 again.

Too much talking and no results! What happened?

If you read the comments you would know. It worked ok but very narrow. I no longer have anything up for 160. I tried an inverted L for 80m which worked fine but it interfered with my inverted V's for 30 and 40m. Therefore I took the inverted L for 80m down. I know have a UB20-MX Ultrabeam on the tower and 2 x Inverted V's one for 30 and one for 40m. I hope this answers your questions on this 4 year old video.

You will be doing well to load that on 40 meters. At 160 meters, even with your loading coil, will NOT work..Sorry
