This is a video, about a motorcycle which I have never think it could be transformed in a Cafe Racer.
The Yamaha FZR 600 Genesis, has a big problem for customization.
I've always heard, that it was impossible to modify deltabox frames.
But I finally found one Builder, who loves to defy conventions, and made impossible possible.
The bike presented on this video, is the work of Lucas Layum, and the crew of Lucky Custom, located in Argentina.
    I hope you like it.
My special thanks to Pedro Torres, for his great help with my English.
Here are some interesting links about this Builder:

The technical ability and imagination involved in this builder's projects never fail to impress. Everything is there and nothing is left over or missing, it is a very well achieved and aesthetically pleasing balance. Maybe we just miss the fabulous model from another project, but hey, you can't have everything in life.

I'm pretty sure the fzr600 has a steel frame, much like early cbr600's. Later on, with the yzf600, they changed to alloy. Honda kept their steel frame for awhile longer, eventually going to alloy also.

Before making this video, I did a lot of research on the Internet, and all the articles I found about Deltabox frames, said they were made out of cast Aluminum.

That's an outstanding mod. As has been pointed out, the original FZR600 had a steel deltabox frame, so mystery solved :) I'm not sure they ever moved to an alloy frame on the 600. The 400 was alloy framed (I had one) and it was a fairly common mod to drop the 600 lump into the 400 frame. Or 600 head, barrels and pistons on a 1WG 400 block, keeping the 400 crank. That's what mine eded up with. It screamed!
I like the blue, but it would look better with red and white speed blocks, IMO.

Not another Lucky Customs Motorcycle! Geeze. I don´t know about anyone else, but Lucas Layum just keeps building extraordinary bikes. This is another amazing bike that baffles us with his bike modification talents.
Would any viewers like to see and hear a ride comparison between an original FZR 600 and this modified version? And hasn`t Racer TV earned your support in being the rider for this comparison? Perhaps all it will take is boosting his subscribers count to half a million.
Since it's riding season, why not just spread the word to riders we run into about Racer TV?
    It's just a thought I had.

I think i understand what you suggested, And it is a good idea. The main problem, is that RUclips rules are now very different from what they were years ago. Just to put you in perspective, I have 2 of my videos with the advertising blocked, just because the rider didn't used helmet for a few seconds. This means everything considered illegal or dangerous, is not suitable for RUclips standards. But thanks for your suggestion. :) Cheers.

Definitely a very interesting and bold approach in the design and build. The color combination is nice and adds to the respective “back in time” look. I immediately remembered the Ford Gulf racing blue of the Lemans GT40’s of the late 1960’s era. As always, thank you for Racer TV, the Café racers only choice! Now that has the juices flowing some what, the exhaust is just a pure work of art on its own and the lines through the whole bike make it look factory built. That is some custom job and the pale blue paint against the black and overall aggressive look works better for me than the carbon look. Well done and good luck,

Another very interesting and challenging build that has been finished off beautifully. Although I did like the carbon better than the blue. But that's just me. I agree about the wheels. I think there's only one type of wheel for a café racer and that's wire wheels.

What a beautiful bike, I have a 90 in glorious white, as stock as the day it was built apart from the exhaust, which was shit, it now has a Harris brushed ss system, why brushed, to hid the word's "Race System, not for road use" I have never tried to do anything with it because it's just too fukn difficult, but looking at this I do believe you are right, he hasn't welded the aluminum, he's welded the steel to a flange that bolts up to it, it's a bit of a fake but still a good idea & it creates a bike that no one else has, I'm still keeping mine stock though, same with my 1000 & I'm looking for a good 400 to make the set. Yet another excellent post, thank you.

I use this "robotic" voice created by software, because I'm Portuguese, and my bad English accent (and voice), can ruin the documentary character that I like for my videos. I already tried a real British voice in one of my videos, and, surprisingly, almost everyone hated it. Curiously, the robotic voice sounds realy very good for to non-English natives.

As has been said steel frame here but most early alloy frames used cast headstock & rear cradle sections welded to extruded sections. Just look at any early GSXR (1985>). No particular magic & a long time before the i3! That being said the i3 is an incredible piece of engineering in its own right.

About welding extruded sections with Cast aluminium, from what I heard, it can weld, but only very small sections, and not like it is done on the BMW I3.
But here is a link to a very interesting and credible video about the BMW I3, and try to see from the minute 32 forward.ruclips.net/video/uDr4L6BzpP8/видео.html Cheers.

So, just to sum everything up:
Cut an outstanding and effective frame and replace it with a couple of randomly arranged tubes.
Put a uselessly loud exhaust that will possibly spoil the performances of the engine.
Remove one of the stock front disc brakes and leave only one of them.
Finally, the icing on the cake: put a set of crappy cross-ply tyres.
What a work of art we are witnessing here!...
Good job Lucky, but next time try harder.

Sorry to say that you've make a "mistake" !
But it is an understandable one to make.
You see the early FZR even though it had a deltabox frame (shape) Yamaha for cost cutting still made it out of steel (it was just for the racer looks)!
I am old enough to have had the model that predates this one (FZ600) and read every bike magazines I could in that time period.
The FZ600 started life as a 400 for I think only the Japan market, It had an extremely good and praised chassis of rectangular steel so yamaha decided to import the bike and fitted the air cooled 600cc engine from their FJ600.
Now I wonder if the FZ600 has been converted to a café racer ???

But during that time it was still a new thing and manufacturers were still developing how to do it proper, Yamaha did it first on their flagship 1000cc (if memory serves) so for the much cheaper 600 they went with simple trickery instead !
Keep up the good work !

The mistake is that although the 750 and 1000 cc versions were always made of aluminium, the 600 versions were always made of steel. Also Deltabox, because that name referred to the shape, not the construction material. Therefore, steel has been welded to steel.

Likewise, in the original fzr600, from the year 91 or 92 which he has used, the fuel tank was made of black sheet steel and it looks original in the transformation. it only occupied the rear half of the entire space covered by the false tank. The entire front end was the intake box with the air filter, which has been replaced by the individual filters. the original fake plastic cap is the one that has been modified to fit the pretty final shapes. I liked it

I love your content and have done for years but you're f*king clutching at straws when you say "aluminium should not rust therefore there there may be other possibilities"
Undoubtedly there are other options and questions around how he made this work.
But claiming it's a dark art or questionable simply does not apply here.
For example, the Audi A/S/RS4 in the right conditions (i.e. mountainous) will see the alloys start to rust from a mixture of abrasion (stone chips) and cold / wet conditions. Especially if there is contact with other non-alloy metals. This could have been the case with this motorbike frame.
Like I say, I love your content - but please CONTINUE to do your research and don't just post stuff for the sake of it ... otherwise you'll lose credibility.
