Good to see you outside Kasie and listening to you talk on something else today. Teaching is a humble profession like every other job so having tattoos and piecing shouldn't be an issue coz their personal preference.

It’s crazy because I’m a teacher too. I teach online now but when I taught in person I was so nervous that my tattoos would effect me but luckily the kids viewed my sleeve as cool lol

I think this is the new norm and i truly like it! People stereotype and have all kinda silly ideas about people based on our ward looks. I feel like as long as it’s not offsite imaging or language it’s no one business.

I’m not a teacher, but I’ve worked hospitality & now in the legal area with a nose piercing, two on each earlobe & a tattoo that’s not visible. I’m honestly so looking forward for the newer generations to take over companies & stuff because the preconceived notions with tattoos & piercings are so dumb to me!! I feel like they say nothing but cool things about the people that have them

It’s great that you work for a company that allows you to express yourself! I haven’t had any issues with my piercings while in the States or China. I was rejected explicitly from teaching for a few companies in Japan for having stretched ears.

When I lived in Japan I had to hide my tattoos when I went into any water park or bath house.

Honestly it never even occurred to me that this would be a problem! Unless, of course, the tattoo was something offensive. But I am surprised to hear that some online companies don't allow them. I am glad it never held you back with VIPKID, Kasie!

Me too. Living in Germany it was so normal. I lived down the road from the tattoo convention. Totally wish I was there for another tattoo lol

I personally love tattoos & piercings! I feel like it’s a form of expression and I think they’re fun! Lol i would not mind a teacher with tattoos or piercings teaching my children!

I didn’t even notice that you had the piercing on your eyebrow. I personally don’t have any tattoos or piercings other than the ears and I just got my ears pierced for the first time five years ago! Lol so they are not for me, but I feel like they are accepted by a lot of people! Glad you didn’t see people not rebook because of them!

Tattoos and piercings aren’t what they used to be! It’s totally acceptable now!

Hey, No I do not have tattoos or piercings. I think that you handle them well and I appreciate your attitude towards them. I am not sure how people view them in China, I know they think we are very different than they are. Piercings are a little different. If you have weird ones like a hook in your nose or something that is unpleasant to look at , that would be something I wouldn’t like but your piercing is pretty subtle and hardly noticeable so I am glad that you are allowed to be you for VIPKID. I appreciate your open and candid discussion.

When I was young, to have a tattoo was a big nono. In today's world they a more commonly accepted. I have a daughter and many friends that has tattoos. The perspective on what people think about them has really changed over the years.

I have many tattoos, most not visable, but also a tongue ring. In public school teaching, it always grabbed the attention of kids, but just out of curiosity. Depending on the situation, I sometimes just changed the subject. Parents have never given bad comments online or in person teaching. I think these things are so much more acceptable these days then they used to be.

I have tattoos and a nose piercing. My tattoos can easily be covered up and I have the clear insert for my nose but luckily my employer hasn't required it and actually encourages it! I work in Outdoor Education and it's been badly hurt by the virus so I was looking into online tutoring companies and things like that. Thank you for sharing.

@@TeacherKasie I do have a BS, but VIPKid is for English teaching right? Honestly, English was my worst subject because I really don't enjoy it so I wouldn't be a great teacher. Thanks though!

Wild and Growing I understand, it is not for everyone. Don’t think if it as English when we went to school. :) it’s English like apple, the, how are you? Etc... it’s conversational and for kids! facebook.com/groups/435161570521597/?ref=share

I remember when I was growing up my brother got a tattoo and got in so much trouble by parents. He never got another one and I ended up with 5 lol. But I definitely started off my Corporate America career by always having them covered. And I remember on one work trip in Brazil, all the teams met up in Rio for a long weekend. I had on a swimsuit and a manager questioned me about them. Kind of in a negative tone. But the company I work for now it appears no one cares. We sit in Teams meetings and see tattoos on everyone lol.

I love your dragon fly tattoo . Both me and my husband have spent our lives in jobs where they really do not like tattoos or piercings so we talk to our kids about that choice. I don’t really understand why it’s such a problem for some people.

    • @TeacherKasie
      @TeacherKasie  4 года назад

Tina Maughan thank you! I am a kindergarten teacher so for the most part they didn’t see my tattoos because they were hidden. Living in Germany is where I started getting more tattoos! :) the ones on my arms and the dragonfly were all fairly recent. Only after I had my career! :) I think it’s great you talk to your kids about this! My kids are 19 and 21. One loves tattoos the other, not so much! :)

No visible tattoos at GoGoKid! And lol "SORRY DAD" My parents hate my tattoos too. haha. The one that is on my wrist (my only visible one) is for my dad, it was the only tattoo he had. It is VERY meaningful to me. I do usually wear my bracelet just because it could be a distraction. I DO think SOME parents in China dislike tattoos, but a lot of parents are also very "hip" there. I am so glad we can be ourselves. Independent contractors. PS I am a pisces too. I want a mermaid on my arm...and flowers! I like nice tattoos too. I have had MANY piercings including my lip. Loved them all but let them go as I changed and didn't want them anymore. My hubby had an eyebrow ring when we met! He is working on his sleeve! Enjoyed my friend!

I don't have any tattoos by choice. I'm afraid of needles. I've never been into tattoos, but I believe it's a personal opinion what people do with and to their body.

Oh your husband is in the military. How do you like being a military wife having to always pack up and leave? Do the students ask you about when your hair is colorful. Teachers don’t look the same when I was in school and when our our parents were in school lol. I had a job tell me I had to take out my nose piercing bc they didn’t want it to offend any one 🤷🏽‍♀️ I lived in the conservative south at the time.

I had no idea there were places where you can’t have piercings or tattoos either? I wouldn’t have an issue if my child were to see a tattoo or piercing. It’s a form of self expression!

Crazy, who cares it’s not like you have them all over your face etc. It doesn’t effect your joyful spirit. When I 1st saw your channel, I said wow she is always smiling that’s why you don’t have an issue booking. They should call you “the smiling teacher” 😁
