  • Had a fun eve flight from a random park in SC. This time we got into some pond foot dragging, spirals, and wing slapping. Minor tip collapses, excellent weather and area... ITV piper 20m and 21.5m with moster 185's

Yup, it seems like a decent match for what I wanted in a wing. It aint too late to call in sick. Better hurry tho, wind is a comin'!

Based on your experience, do you think the Piper is safe for a brand new pilot right out of school, as their first wing? Or would it be a better idea to start with the Baja? Btw, I have no interest in acro. I just want to cruise around and explore. Safety and speed are my two biggest wants for a wing, mainly to cut through headwind.

In my opinion, the piper isnt really a great first choice. I am thankful I started on a much more passive and easier wing. I still fly it as well. I think the piper reccomends 100+hrs flight time. Don't fret, there is LOADS of fun to be had on a beginner wing. Youll eventually own two wings or trade, but dont rush it. Thanks for watching...

Looks like so much fun Shane.. Say in ideal conditions, how long of flight time can you get out of the motor? I imagine you need some reserve in case of trouble?

typical fuel burn for me is 3L an hour, I call it 4. Average speed is near 30mph (excluding winds). Approx 4 hrs flight time at 120 miles(legal max 18L tank, mines 16L). I get sick WAY before that, and each gallon in the tank is a gallon I gotta run with. I have a reserve on the left hand side of my harness. THey arent required and typically only help when deployed above 500', give or take. At the 1000' agl we were during wing touches, I'd estimate we'd have about 5-7seconds to deploy a chute. Thanks for watching.
