Avasarala has had her moments of “questionable” ethics, but when she stood up and basically said “They murdered my husband but I won’t be a part of murdering innocents in retribution” you realize what kind of person she truly has become. In the beginning of the series she hangs a belter on the hooks with little remorse… fully justifying the end by the means. Now she’s had to face the consequences of what arguably are her _own_ actions. Really, how much responsibility does she share for the rocks thrown at Earth knowing full well she was part of torturing and provoking belters…? The depth of Avasarala’s character is nearly unmatched. Shohreh Aghdashloo is a goddess of cinema, even if I don’t think I’ll ever be able to pronounce her name.
I think that if killing civilian belters had actually given earth some value, Avasarala might have considered it (e.g. collateral damage for an attempt to kill Marco). But this was killing civilians for no benefit - indeed, it would make the situation worse by driving neutral belters into Marco's arms.
I think it's pretty adorable that Clarissa has no idea why Amos calls her "Peaches." It's funny, because between the two of them you wouldn't guess Amos to be the one who was familiar with a fancy dessert like Peach Melba.
Chrisjen lives by the credo: Never start an argument you haven't already won. In the entire series, she plots conversations like generals plot battles. From coercing the ex-spymaster to send an operative after Holden to convincing Delgado to join her cabinet while at the same time softening his anti-Belter fervor, she stacks the deck before she deals. She is, for better or worse, a schemer. Her skills are honed into two sharp points: Find out what needs to be done, and get people to do it. What she's learned, IMO, is that it is even better to find the _right_ people to do the _right_ thing. If only Cotyar could see her now! _fist on heart_ We miss you, brother!
@@funnylilgalreacts plus “don’t go all Holden on me” “screaming firehawk “ and “you’re not that guy” makes a pretty neat bumper sticker merch collection
I say again, Filip’s in an impossible situation. If he had joined Naomi, he would have to confront his crimes too. Without her influence, he felt justified in helping murder millions, but following her would bring all that home. It’s not no-strings-attached salvation. Practically speaking, staying with Marco and the cause is the much less painful option (or so he feels). Add to that lifelong indoctrination, gaslighting, abuse hands of a destructive narcissist, being a teenager, and literally being stuck on a spaceship with the cultists… Marco telling Filip that Naomi “abandoned them again” was horrible but maybe also gave Filip some relief: She is wrong, so he chose “right”. His conscience and nascent identity were being threatened by Naomi being there, and making some very valid points. Naomi did plant some seeds of doubt, thankfully. As for Drummer being asked who she loves more, yes, that’s blatantly unfair. But she is deeply in love with Naomi. You said that Drummer had lost “her dear friend”, but really Drummer thought she’d lost the love of her life. Chrisjen lost Arjun, Drummer lost Naomi (or thought she did), and they’re both similarly grief stricken. As for Arjun, I alluded to it in a comment on the previous episode. Earth is not doing well. Amos and Clarissa had to kill to get to Baltimore. The house staff would likely starve or get killed by the rentacops. Arjun was in New York, which was hit hard. That he didn’t make it was, sadly, always the most plausible outcome.
I rewached the season so far and I want to point out that Amos never once stopped Clarissa making her choices or tried to force his ideals on her. In fact, he has respected her opinions. Every. Single. Time. I'm convinced this is the most Clarissa that Clarissa has ever been. Peaches unleashed. Original formula.
I don't know if you've heard about this, but boom studios has recently announced a new 12 issues comics series being developed, that takes place after season 6 of the show and before book 7. It was announced on Kickstarter a few days ago and it already broke a record on day one with the most pre-orders.
I thought Clarissa did the logical thing to difuse the situation when the securities first came. Amos, Erik and Clarissa were at the forefront of the group. If a shootout were to happen, they probably would be injured. Then there would be no mechanic, no bypassing the shuttle's security, etc. Plus Amos brought a wrench to a gun fight.😆
"Sometimes you gotta stop thinking about it to figure it out." - Amos I've been saying something similar for years. Any time I can't remember something, such as a name, I've learned to stop thinking hard on it after a minute or so and move on to other stuff. The answer then, almost inevitably, pops right into my head just a few minutes later. The subconscious is amazing in how it works like that, still continuing to work your brain in the background while you concentrate elsewhere, once you've imprinted the question in your mind for a bit beforehand. It's also not just memory recall which has worked for me. I fixed malfunctioning computers for years and one time I couldn't figure out the exact problem. Spent a few hours trying various theories but they weren't it. I decided to call it a day (late evening by that point) and went to "sleep on it" shortly afterward. After waking up, the answer hit me in the first few minutes. "Sleeping on it" has also worked amazingly well for memorizing a lot of information if I study it all just before going to sleep. Just fascinating how your subconscious brain can do so much while you don't even notice.
I love this episode, and yes, the running gun fight was one continuous shoot. Everyone on the set nearly froze to death. “Reveta Bowers” one of the best space yacht names ever. RIP Arjun Avasarala-Rao. Also, the words “crawl space” is stuck in mind. 😅 thinking about …
Okay, we didn't almost all die but it was, indeed, f*cking cold. It was a true "Fraturday"[1] which had been on the board well in advance[2], and the forecast was a low of -18C/-0.4F with slight wind. Pretty much 3 years ago (almost to the day) in a much colder February than this year. The house was on a rolling hilltop and the prep crews worked hard just to make the set traversable and habitable. Everyone knew what lay ahead and did their best to prepare. _[1 - A "Fraturday" is a Friday shoot that is going to roll well into Saturday. And our call time on Day 2 at the house was __5:00__ ... PM. There are current movements to abolish those.]_ _[2 - No show is perfect but one of the best things about this one was the level of planning. I cannot tell you how important it is and yet how often other shows basically wing it. THE EXPANSE did not like to wing it. The people in charge know your best chance is focus first on story and second on logistics. Y'all may hate meetings but meetings make the magic possible.]_ Anyway, yes, my bosses had to order more heaters for the warm-up tent (big event tents). Hot shots (chemical versions of heated rocks in your sleeping bag or clothes) were ordered by the crate. And, on a normal cold night, we'd limit the time during takes when actors don't have parkas on or crew have to hold gear with thin gloves. ...but of course it was Long-Take Night when Mama Nature decided to give us a taste of a nuclear winter. And, at some point, the wind decided to pick up. Took a team effort to get through it but, if you want to talk about MVPs, then talk to the Stunties and SSE[3] Performers who stood in the woods, far away from the warm-up facilities (cuz, wide shots, plus snowscape preservation) and the few crew who either attended to those "Pinkwater thugs" or had to reset the snow. Yes, that's a thing. _[3 - SSE = Special Skills Extra, if I recall correctly. That includes people who know how to carry themselves with military bearing, even if they aren't firing a projectile-capable gun. Majority of the guns that night were flashers, just flickering lights.]_ Everyone, really, attended to every hurdle, frozen piece of gear, tired/cold crewmate, stuck vehicle, blown over tent, and every other challenge with remarkable (and dare I say it, Canadian) derring-do. Department distinctions meant very little when a heavy object needed to get up an icy hill so we can all get outta there faster. Teamwork _actually_ made the dream work. Cuz, y'know, those are _our_ people. Personally, I remember that night with a certain level of pride. There were some injuries (including minor frostbite) but we didn't almost all die. As hard as our Long-Take Cold Night was, there were contingencies in place for any calamity or worsening of weather. We weren't on the precipice of death. We were just on the precipice of saying, "Eff this! Let's go inside!" We weren't storming the beaches of Normandy or fighting ebola in Africa. We were just making a TV show. ___ Caveat: I'm a Locations Department worker. Outdoor "adventures" are our thing. So, my experience does not speak for everyone's.
@@AngeloBarovierSD Salute to the hardworking and frosty members of your crew. o7 All your hard work paid off for one of the most memorable shots of the series!
You my dear you are definitely one of us Screaming Firehawks! One thing I've learned among a huge number of other things is that this show is extremely character driven. On that note it is important to remember that it takes a whole team to bring a character to life. So I'm so attracted to so many characters in this story. As you have said before... The Expanse feels like home. Great reaction to another great episode! As this story is rapidly coming to an end it wise to take stock in the many character arcs such Chrisjen , Amos and so many more! Only seven episodes left, I've already started rewatching your reactions from the beginning again! Looking forward to the season five finale!
@@funnylilgalreacts thank you! You will never know how much of a blessing your reaction to our beloved show is to me! You're one of the best... thank you!
Amusing sidenote - the captions mention the security guys as working for a company called Pinkwater - deliberately a combination of the US' two most notorious private military companies, the Pinkerton Agency and Blackwater.
“Damn it!”, “Fuck!”, “God damn it!”, “Shit!”, “Fuck you!” Just some of the epithets thrown out from all the reactors when the credits roll at the end of every episode! 😂😂😂😂
So many awesome performances in this episode! There's one moment that got cut in your edit that is definitely my favorite. It's when Drummer agrees that she loves her polyam-belter-fam as much as she did Naomi (despite how unfair asking the question was). Cara Gee made the choice to drop out of her dropped larynx Drummer voice into her much more vulnerable relaxed Cara voice. It gave the moment such a sense of realism. Beautiful voice acting.
Thank you for giving a shout out to Hutch! Shot in the back and giving cover fire while being carried away? I wish every patient would be as helpful to their caregivers as she was!
Oh, as for Oksana asking Drummer if she loved them as much as she loved Naomi...Oksana knows how impulsive Drummer can be, and also knows that Drummer would not hesitate to put her own life at risk to save someone she loves. I believe it's meant as a rhetorical question to drive home the subsequent point that any action Drummer takes to help Naomi puts the lives of the entire Dewalt crew at risk, not just her own. Oksana is trying very hard to stop Drummer from starting a fight that she doesn't believe they can win.
Oksana could have done that better by keeping full confidence with Drummer. There can't be a good ending to deceit with a spouse when both are in the same danger.
25:05 Clarissa probably saved Amos' life right there. He was out in the open with just a wrench. They may have been able to take out all of the rent-a-cops but with Amos in the middle of the crossfire unarmed, me might have been shot. Also, they probably had friends out in the woods, or whatever. There seemed to be more people shooting when they ambushed than we saw earlier in the episode
Amos with a wrench at close quarters? My money is on Amos to take a firearm from one of the rent-a-cop's wrench-whipped corpse. But seriously, you're right, the position was a recipe for massive casualties on both sides.
In the scene where Avasarala resigns the councill and other people follow.. for what i renember the ones who step and resign were all the civilians on the Council..the ones left are Pasteur and the military members..
Remember that Naomi is a ship's engineer, so she knows how they work even if it's a type of ship she had never worked on before. I love that during these episodes we see Naomi trying to solve problems and using her brain because her body is so weak after the transit. The level of physical and mental exhaustion and perseverance is incredible. Dom is an incredible actor, for being alone for so many of her scenes in this part of the season she acted the hell out of it. Naomi is the best character on The Expanse.
10% Rosé :p lol The Churn short story does fill a lot in with the "Timmy" and Erich stuff, plus the book has more stuff in of course. I think Lydia is what Amos is really thinking about when he looks back down to Earth, just my take on it.
IMHO there's a really important growth moment when Amos goes back for Hutch, and let's out this agonising sound. Amos doesn't feel fear so he wasn't forcing himself to be brave, but instead, it was the sound of him forcing himself to feel empathy and go back to help a relative stranger. Not family. Not a child. Just someone in need. That's growth.
On Ty and that Guy podcast they said the gun fight is all one shot except for one cut where they went from outside/entrance into the long hallway since they were in separate locations.
This show had some of the most stressful cliffhangers ever. I literally was having anxiety watching some of it. I guess that means this was a really masterful show.
43:30 there is a fan theory that Drummer is "secretly" in love with Naomi, but her respect for Naomi combined with Drummer's professionalism, and duty to the belt, are so strong that she never tells her. No idea if it's intended by the author, but I think it's a fun idea that works with what we get from Cara's acting choices and her excellent portrayal of grief and anger through this part of Drummer's character arc
30:40 In a wonderful little 'attention to detail' moment, Filip is repairing the part Naomi had mentioned she'd repaired before, so in a symbolic way you can see him repairing his relationship before knocking it away in frustration and anger.
Love is not about quantity; anybody who asks if you love one person or another "more" than another has no idea. Drummer has loved Naomi since before Eros and Naomi helped her keep her command of the Behemoth. Oksana is just jealous/fearful of being displaced in Drummer's regard.
This has nothing to do with love, quantified or not. Oksana knows what happens if Drummer disobeys Marco, so the question is "are you willing to sacrifice us to save Naomi" with a subtext of "please don't sacrifice us". Oksana doesn't want to go on a suicide mission to help save Drummers "girlfriend", same as Bull, but makes just a slightly better job at saying this.
Clarissa isn't being naive at all, the security guys were wearing body armor, and Amos was just holding a wrench and not even particularly close by. Amos would have been killed if she hadn't intervened. It's Erich who was naive. He didn't have his men prepare for those security forces to come back, just left one dumb sentry in a lit window
Pushing the algorithm with donkeyballs. Great reaction, you're my favorite. I really hope you went and got tissues. On a sort.of side note, my aspie mind always goes to Timmy from South Park when I hear that name used in shows.
Another fave Amos moment. When he is looking at Clarissa, after she's invited the locals, & you can see him thinking "You remind me of somebody else that does what they believe is the right thing, no matter what" - S01 Amos would have probably argued against Naomi for doing that. S05 Amos is "Yep, you're right, I see why."
There may have been 1 hidden cut but yes, all one continuous shot. Harder than you'd think with a hand held cameraman needing to avoid casting a shadow from multiple light sources. Also, filmed in the Canadian winter cold 😲
2 hidden cuts, 3 separate locations. And the cuts are not always where people think they are. (That's all I'll say because I dunno what else the VIPs have revealed thus far and, IMO, they deserve the pleasure of the reveal. It was their magic trick, after all.)
@@AngeloBarovierSD Ty Franck did say on his podcast that there's a cut hidden when the camera does a 180 as they're running down the long hallway toward the end. He didn't mention where the other one was though
@@wagnarokkr He knows. I guarantee you he knows. But my lips are sealed, er, my fingers are ... locked? You know what I mean! I ain't telling ya nothin'!
The clever thing with the writing is you HATE Clarissa for doing what she did, but now you understand desperate times call for desperate measures. Those days were desperate times and desperate measures for Clarissa, she was cut off from most of her family, her sister dead (maybe murdered as far as she is concerned) her father in prison for life, her super rich princess life completely over and seemingly at the hands of one man, James Holden. She never was a bad person, not in the sense of a villain or evil, she was manipulated by her father and her life destroyed
Oksana knows that if she tells Drummer Naomi is alive, she may be jeopardizing the lives of everyone else in her family. She may feel she has a duty to her family to get some indication that Drummer wouldn’t immediately sacrifice them all for Naomi, or that she’d at least weigh all their lives in the same balance.
Oksana could have done that better by keeping full confidence with Drummer. There can't be a good ending to deceit with a spouse when both are in the same danger.
@@kirkdarling4120 That has the same energy as letting your current partner disrespect you because they miss their ex, and it's worse than that, not just disrespect, but a willingness to endanger everyone you love. That is NOT unreasonable.
Oksana should know Drummer better. She didn't want to though. Also, with Drummer, who is a highly moral character, it wasn't only about Naomi, but the whole Naomi thing was the last straw. It was way more complicated than "missing her ex". As everything in The Expanse.
You need to keep the bottle with you next time when you down that glass of rose’. You are going to need that refill sitting at the edge of your seat. As always, love your show and particularly love rewatching The Expanse with you!!! 👍
The actors are doing an amazing job, amazing, but I've noticed you catching how great the cinematography has been progressing over the course of the show. There's a YT guy that breaks down several scenes from the show from a cameraman's perspective which opened my eyes to how amazing it is.
A Belter, a Martian, an Earther, and a funny little gal go to a bar. The Belter says: "Give me a shot of your finest Martian whiskey. Drinking like my enemy helps me think like my enemy." The Martian says: Give me a shot of your finest Earth tequila. Drinking like my enemy helps me think like my enemy." The Earther says: "Give me a shot of the finest Belter liquor you have. Best the Belt has to offer." The Bartender says: "Because it helps you think like your enemy?" And the Earther says: "No, because I'm trying to drink less. The best the Belt has to offer is terrible." The girls listens to them and says: "Give me a bottle of the best Rosé you have. It helps me to get over bad jokes."
Oh, and yeah, Delgato and Davey-boy were totally gaslighting. They were reacting on emotion: anger. And in Delgato's case, that anger is largely self-directed due to his own failings pre-rocks. The emotion comment was just enraging.
Delgado definitely over corrected his own cowardice but I get it… he knew that if he was brave enough they actually got a chance to spot those first three rocks, in the other hand Davey-boy is just being stupid and he’s not a leader material at all just a bubblehead much like the old SG but dumber
@@ader701220 Actually, I don't even think Davey came off as stupid or incompetent as was intended. It was more like he felt his role was to strike back and he just aligned himself with the one person who also felt that way politically.
@@fredwin yeah that could be, but at least the Old SG would ask Chrisjen for opinions about his decisions that makes him a tiny bit better than Davey, just a tiny bit tho xD
@@ader701220 Dont think Dave was stupid.. just wanted to react with strenght and felt revenge and a assurance destruction deterrant was in order ,specially influenced by military .. i mean he was the SG after the single biggest mass murder and attack in all human history.. he got to decide what do do right next. Considering how in the real world there has been TONS of attacks followed by a direct retaliation against civilians (11S, Pearl Harbour to name a couple) its not hard feetched that whoever took charge would be heavily pressed to respond against any Belter targets the highest visibility possible.. Avasarala is just much more seasoned and mature and knows better..but thinking about all she went throught the series .. and looking back at early Season 1 Chrisjen im afraid had she (early S1 Avasarala) been in Pasteur position she may had ordered the attacks too...
Marco Inaros might be the best "Villian-you-love-to-hate" ever. I think Gul Dukat from Deep Space Nine comes close, but I think Marco wins. It actually makes me feel slightly bad for Keon Alexander, because in interviews and such, he just seems like a total sweetheart, and incredibly nice and funny. But he just does such a goddamn good job playing a totally despicable asshole that you can't help but fist-pump every time he gets thwarted and throws a tantrum like an angry child. XD So, amazing job, Keon! Also, I totally get where you're coming from with Bull. He is a total asshole. And a racist. I think you're supposed to severely dislike him. But, over the course of the season, he does demonstrate why he is someone that Fred Johnson trusted to do some very difficult work. Usually, you just want to punch Bull in the face, but there's no denying that he's someone you want on your side when shit gets tough and your back is against the wall. The thing about Bull is, what you see is what you get. He's not duplicitous. He says exactly what he means. For better or for worse, you always know where you stand with Bull. I'm not saying you should forgive him, but it's possible to dislike him and still recognize the useful things he brings to the table. Also, I know he's not a "good" guy, but I just really love the character of Erich. Despite his physical disabilities, he just exudes this aura of confidence and fearlessness that has probably made him a very successful mob boss. I don't remember the name of his actor, but he does an amazing job and makes a very strong impression in a very short time. And it's fucking rad to see a disabled actor like him get such an amazing chance to shine on such a great show. I hope to see him in more stuff! The entire "Battle of Winnipesaukee" is one of the most thrilling sequences ever put to film. I mean that. A huge, continuous shot of just utter chaos and bloodshed that visually tells the story of these people running to their shuttle and getting the fuck out of there while dozens of other people are trying to murder them. Also, I think you might have a missed a really good line. Right after they all re-enter the hangar and see all the people Clarissa killed with her mods, Erich says, "I'm gonna be a lot nicer to her now!" The scenes between Erich and Clarissa are some of my favorites too. They both have very interesting perspectives and seeing them converse without Amos there is pretty fascinating. Oh, and it's HILARIOUS when all those dumbass Pinkwater dipwads get incinerated by the shuttle exhaust! Cracks me up every time! XD Great reaction, Angela!!!!
30:23 Amos looking at the shuttle window always gives me Mass effect vibes. (imo) He can be Commander Shepard if Hollywood will make a live action film.
I think there would be something special lost in translation. Even when a choice in the games is obvious, you still chose that path. You have to actively choose to socialize with your crew between missions. A non interactive linear story sucks a lot of the charm out.
I don't think that changing the message was for Alex. It was meant to just mean that she was on the ship. Now what she's going to do... yeah. that's for Alex and trying to save him, because if he gets close, then kaboom. Great action set piece for Amos. Yeah, it was pretty much one shot. The lookout was a bit stupid having a light to stand iin front of but that's more for us to see him. Now what's Naomi doing??? :)
2:28-2:50 Have a Snickers. You're not you when your hungry. First time I caught the interrupted and reconnected message, I knew "She's editing the message, based on the analysis of the words/syllables she had available" Only because she's proven herself to be sharper than me. I _might_ have come up with that solution, if I had the knowledge she has, but it would take me a lot longer to figure out 1. to do it, 2. how to do it, and 3. actually achieve it. 7:18-7:27 I do think Marco, in many respects is quite smart. "super" maybe not. But he's got way too much ego and pride for one person to contain and be successful. Marco is an egotistical, narcissistic monstrosity. 9:49-9:55 "The answer to violence, is seldom ever violence." I appreciate you said seldom. There is the rare case where it is true that someone is "so involved in violence as an absolute, that violence of greater magnitude is the only thing they will understand" I pray I never have to deal with such a person. "sub orbital" by name alone means it is "unable to achieve orbit" but certainly able to get high enough to be collected by a ship in orbit, and ferried to an orbital position, or to be ferried to a ship or station or even Luna. A sub orbital shuttle would have everything it needs for its maximum crew + passenger load to be in a limited (i,e, no usable) atmosphere for many hours, it can't achieve a sustainable orbit (without system failure) or break out of orbit (to head to the moon) unaided.
Amos and Eric used to look up at the rockets going off when they were kids, now they are on it. Oskana was right tho. Drummer was signing the death warrants for everybody on that ship. It was a reasonable question. Even if you could save Naomi, is it worth it if it means killing us?
@@funnylilgalreacts I know that but if I said the UK it wouldn’t have been funny. You know the place that invented real football and wasn’t late for two world wars.
Amos looking back at Earth calls back to He and Erich looking up at ships as kids. Amos also knew neither Alex or Naomi would leave anybody behind since Eros or the Weeping Somnambulist.
As she mentioned the long take in the fighting scene, I was reminded of "Victoria", which is an entire film shot in one single take over several locations in Berlin, actions scenes etc. This single shot gives it a unique dynamic, but it is also a great story, and the protagonist (Victoria, played by Laia Costa) is just amazing. It's on Netflix (at least her in Switzerland). For me, it was the best film of the year, it came out (2015). I can highly recommend it.
I forgot to mention: If you watch the film without subtitles, it will even be more immersive, as the protagonist doesn't speak German and communicates only in English. You can get a glimpse of how that works by searching e.g. "Victoria (2015) piano scene" on RUclips.
Winnipesaukee is a real vacation place. My dad visited once. It evidently hasn't changed much in spirit in this show. Still a place with seasonal vacation homes, only now without hotels for the not rich. The fact that Naomi was able to calculate the oxygen of the room in that state.... The downside of your success being built on a long strong of plans, when they succeed and you're out of plans, now you have to wing it! We ALL love to see Marco foiled and realizing he's been foiled. No, these are just the names of the dead tied to those currently on Luna. I imagine the spired would reach out of the building if it was everyone dead. David seemed so nice and unsure. Now he has a taste for ununiformed blood. Insurgent and civilian alike. "Assimilation and compromise" You mean like being threatened to exchange a family member as a hostage for a bishy political officer who thinks she's captain? Yeah, nobody is happy to find out THAT's the punchline payoff. Peach Melba, it's a dessert. Ardun doesn't show up int he final season, so.... yeah. He's probably dead Being backlit makes you an easy shot. TOASTY! Yep, they love their cliffhangers.
Naomi is a an engineer basically so she is hella smart but she is also a Belter. They live their whole life in space so have a basic level of knowledge about of how to survive in space. Even Diogo showed some of that savvy when he and Miller were planting explosives on Eros. Miller was a was welwala sellout for most of his life so he didn't have the same skills set; though he was a good investigator when put in the effort. I don't think Naomi was actually angry at Cyn. He assumed she was going to kill herself, like his old memory about her. I think she was truly sorry but she knew this was her last chance to escape and she wasn't going to sacrifice the chance to save the Roci-fam. RIP Cyn. Belters have been exploited for their labor and not given their due share. Killing millions of inners was a disproportionate response. Marco's anger is justified but his methods/intent are corrupted because he is a vain, power hungry, fuckhead. His irritation is delicious, I just wish he wasn't dragging down folks like Cyn and Filip with him. Good Belters who just want the boot off of their necks.
If there had been a shootout immediately with the rentacops, Erich and Amos were in the line of fire without weapons. Oksana, Michio, Josep, Betold, and Serge are more than Drummer's friends, they are her spouses. If someone asked me whether I love my wife more than my best buddy...I certainly can answer that question. So, if Naomi were nothing more than a friend in Drummer's heart, there would not be a question about who she is most loyal to. Oksana knows that Naomi is more than just a friend in Drummer's heart. But Oksana is wrong in her approach. She should still be in total confidence with her wife, not with Karal.
I know Erich is a pretty shitty guy, he’s a crime boss, but I really love the character and the way he’s portrayed here. It cannot have been easy for him to have risen through the ranks while being physically disabled (in both the show and the books) and he shows compassion for Amos and Lydia (and her husband)
She's running out of air cos everytime she leaves the ship it vents a little more through the door. That's why she's counting the number of times she leaves the area with the air.
Possible get out of jail card: if you don't intend to come back down to Earth and land, you have spare fuel. Maybe enough fuel to reach orbit and then rendezvous with a transfer ship. An orbital ship needs enough fuel to reach orbit and also enough fuel to de-orbit and land, plus enough fuel to carry that extra fuel. If you're not planning on having to do the second half of that, the fuel for a sub-orbital might just suffice.
Angela : "I WANT AMOS IN MY CRAWL SPACE!!!!" Sure you do, Angela. Sure you do. That much has been clear since you started reacting to this show. #UnintendedInnuendo
_"To define is to destroy. To suggest is to create."_ - Mallarme It's one of my favourite quotes but I'm going to go against it to do something I rarely do, which is to 'correct' a viewer's perception. The intent of the show's storytelling is to depict a woman who loves Naomi deeply, without reciprocation. Drummer _luh-luh-luh-luvs_ Naomi. She could be mad - she probably _wants_ to be mad enough to move on - but she loves her too much. It's important context because, since I know you've already seen the S5 finale, it drives her decision-making. She knows she cannot fight the wind, so she pivots her sail to move with it. (Also, she hates Marco for being Marco. So, that puts some wind in her sail, too.)
Going back to Niomi repeatedly going into vacuum and keeping track and of her Oxygen. If you do the math based on the volume of the airlock (which they show her doing) and a reasonable guess at the internal size of the ship by checking comparison to the Pella, she had many more attempts available than she used (but it’s a nice touch). The bit I like is the fact they show her taking the suit off each time (rather than just the mask to take a fresh breath) which is accurate because she has to get rid of CO2 buildup - you actually exhale about pp16% O2 so it’s not so important for Oxygen but essential for CO2 removal. In fact after several cycles in reality she’d move to a different part of the ship when putting it back on. And yes - saying sub-orbital really really annoyed me because if that’s all they could do it’s useless to them (well - I guess they could go anywhere else on earth but that’s pretty much established as pointless at this point) but I guess the point is that’s what they tend to be used for. But if they can get to the moon single stage (we can’t even do single stage to orbit and arguably may never) I think calling them Orbital Shuttles or short range Earth system shuttles (put a more eloquent way) is far more appropriate! Given the attention to accuracy this show maintains that obvious inaccuracy really surprised me. Also - they don’t seem very practical to use without a flame trench to direct the exhaust away from basically destroying the hangar and house on liftoff! And given you sad you watched it immediately, prepare for some controversy over ship control dynamics in vacuum! And I will go on to say you will have to replay the bit you know I’m talking about several times before you get a full mental picture of what happened.
The possibility that some internal doors connecting the launch area to interior hallways will burn people to cinders does make sense. What doesn’t make sense is using a system that would burn down your house and the surrounding surface for a really large radius. Didn’t the Rocinante land on Ilus with just thrusters?
The launch bay doors possibly also act as a blast shield for the house and trees when open. The thrust needed to take off is more than is needed to land, at least with conventional rockets, as this seems to be from the orange flames and, yeah, Erich probably just gunned it.
Well you started out hating miller and his hat, and Holden's choices, but you came around. Then hating Ashford and Melba. And you came around again... Is Bull next? I guess we will just have to see.
Yeah, "suborbital shuttle" was ill-considered technobabble. It should be "cislunar shuttle" because that would imply it could travel anywhere between Earth and the Moon, including out to Lagrange Points 4 and 5. That would be *really* useful, for people who have business interests in Earth's orbit, the Moon's orbit, or anywhere close by either. Oh, and Lake Winnipesaukee is a real place. It's the largest lake in New Hampshire, and lots of the communities are resorts for wealthy people from the northeastern part of the United States. I don't think any of the summer mansions, up there, have space launch facilities. Yet. 😁

~Arjun Avasarala
"I want Amos in my crawlspace!" That drink makes you thirstier I know it
Anybody who has watched Season Two of The Expanse is well aware that when Drummer feels that she needs a gun, she will get a gun.
And considering how religious extremists gained political power and upended her life when she was a young adult, her performance has even more depth.
I think that if killing civilian belters had actually given earth some value, Avasarala might have considered it (e.g. collateral damage for an attempt to kill Marco). But this was killing civilians for no benefit - indeed, it would make the situation worse by driving neutral belters into Marco's arms.
"I love you 3000."
That's how you quantify love, and slay an audience.
I think it's pretty adorable that Clarissa has no idea why Amos calls her "Peaches." It's funny, because between the two of them you wouldn't guess Amos to be the one who was familiar with a fancy dessert like Peach Melba.
Or maybe a cheap crappy dessert for poor people that is marketed with a fancy name.
I mean....vanilla ice cream, raspberries, and peaches. Fancy may be stretching it but to an undocumented kid from Baltimore OK.
Avasarala knew the joke. She wanted him to understand it. That's my theory.
I never thought about it that way and 100% I feel that that’s exactly what went down
👌

Clarissa is showing hints of who she would have been if not for her father. We see even in this episode how much damage a manipulative father can do.
'Look at me, on team Clarissa...'
Girl, we all knew you would end up in here with us. Welcome.
And the security guards had some body armor as well. I agree.
She did, but I bet those rent boys never shot anyone before in the other hand Eric’s people are gang members and they had the high ground
The guards only had one gun each & body amour. Amos had a wrench. Not even close to a fair fight. The guards would need at least 15 more people. 😈😁
"Sometimes you gotta stop thinking about it to figure it out." - Amos
I've been saying something similar for years.
"An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind."

PM. There are current movements to abolish those.]_
_[2 - No show is perfect but one of the best things about this one was the level of planning. I cannot tell you how important it is and yet how often other shows basically wing it. THE EXPANSE did not like to wing it. The people in charge know your best chance is focus first on story and second on logistics. Y'all may hate meetings but meetings make the magic possible.]_
Anyway, yes, my bosses had to order more heaters for the warm-up tent (big event tents).
Majority of the guns that night were flashers, just flickering lights.]_
Everyone, really, attended to every hurdle, frozen piece of gear, tired/cold crewmate, stuck vehicle, blown over tent, and every other challenge with remarkable (and dare I say it, Canadian) derring-do.
Let's go inside!"
We weren't storming the beaches of Normandy or fighting ebola in Africa. We were just making a TV show.

Amusing sidenote - the captions mention the security guys as working for a company called Pinkwater - deliberately a combination of the US' two most notorious private military companies, the Pinkerton Agency and Blackwater.
Good catch, I missed that. 👍
A most inauspicious portmanteau.
Nice catch indeed.
Haha! Love that last line.
"Look at me, being Team Clarissa." 🤣
Ewww 😂
"I want Amos in my crawlspace!" - Girl, are *thirsty!*
See, I saw it as a manipulation on Oksana’s part. I think she knows exactly where she stands when it comes to Drummer and Drummer’s love for Naomi.
Oksana could have done that better by keeping full confidence with Drummer. There can't be a good ending to deceit with a spouse when both are in the same danger.
Ever seen a supernova - Drummer’s temper is a work of wonder.
@@benjaminodonnell258 Nahhh Eric’s goons have the high ground they will be just fine xD
One thing I really appreciate about your channel is that you take the time to highlight the directors/cinematographers and other specialists
She didn't hate Cyn as much as you think. She still cared about him, just not enough that him being there would stop her from making the jump.
"Do not let the episode end!" ... /credits lol

Still valid lmao
A dependable jerk is still a jerk.

The Churn short story does fill a lot in with the "Timmy" and Erich stuff, plus the book has more stuff in of course.
37:50 the way you say "David" makes it sound like such an insult 😂
31:10 Wow, that eye-roll... If we could attach magnets to your eyeballs, we could probably solve a large part of the energy crisis.
On Ty and that Guy podcast they said the gun fight is all one shot except for one cut where they went from outside/entrance into the long hallway since they were in separate locations.
Isn't Tequila the right drink for these episodes?
Dominique Tipper's acting in these few episodes is absolutely incredible. Her best in the entire series.
I agree, it's incredible, but I would argue she continues to be great in Season 6. 🤗
This show had some of the most stressful cliffhangers ever. I literally was having anxiety watching some of it. I guess that means this was a really masterful show.
As usual the firefights are superb.
I actually mention this I think in the next episode. If you’re asking, it’s because you already know where you stand and it’s not on top.
"Never gonna like that man," says the woman now on team Clarissa. 🤔
Pushing the algorithm with donkeyballs. Great reaction, you're my favorite.
I really hope you went and got tissues.
On a sort.of side note, my aspie mind always goes to Timmy from South Park when I hear that name used in shows.
I just realized that the reactor crawlspace is the same set where cotyar died back in season 3

#TeamClarissa !
Uhh also, pushing the shit. 😳

Oh, and yeah, Delgato and Davey-boy were totally gaslighting. They were reacting on emotion: anger. And in Delgato's case, that anger is largely self-directed due to his own failings pre-rocks. The emotion comment was just enraging.
Oh 100%.
It was more like he felt his role was to strike back and he just aligned himself with the one person who also felt that way politically.

. . . must . . . keep . . . going!
Right after they all re-enter the hangar and see all the people Clarissa killed with her mods, Erich says, "I'm gonna be a lot nicer to her now!"
The scenes between Erich and Clarissa are some of my favorites too. They both have very interesting perspectives and seeing them converse without Amos there is pretty fascinating.
Oh, and it's HILARIOUS when all those dumbass Pinkwater dipwads get incinerated by the shuttle exhaust! Cracks me up every time! XD
Great reaction, Angela!!!!
31:09 rofl at the eyes.
9:49-9:55 "The answer to violence, is seldom ever violence."
I appreciate you said seldom.
Ego is a common downfall. In both life and fiction.
Amos and Eric used to look up at the rockets going off when they were kids, now they are on it. Oskana was right tho. Drummer was signing the death warrants for everybody on that ship. It was a reasonable question. Even if you could save Naomi, is it worth it if it means killing us?
Yeah, I really don't like that the peanut gallery considers Oksana to be unreasonable here.
I can’t believe I’m watching this it’s gone 2am.
Where are you lol
@@funnylilgalreacts At 2 in the morning in bed watching on an iPad. It’s call insomnia.
I meant where are you in the world lol
@@funnylilgalreacts I know that but if I said the UK it wouldn’t have been funny. You know the place that invented real football and wasn’t late for two world wars.
@@funnylilgalreacts Oh and it’s now 4am and I’m still wide awake. I seem to be in a routine 48 awake to 24 hours a sleep for some reason???????
Amos looking back at Earth calls back to He and Erich looking up at ships as kids. Amos also knew neither Alex or Naomi would leave anybody behind since Eros or the Weeping Somnambulist.
Oh my god that crossed eyed look was like something straight out of a comedy!
Omg... I love it.
Good luck surviving EP10!
It. Was. Rough.
@@funnylilgalreacts looking forward to your shock in 6-1.
"I want Amos in my crawl space"
Ardun doesn't show up int he final season, so.... yeah. He's probably dead
Being backlit makes you an easy shot.
TOASTY!
Yep, they love their cliffhangers.
Also Winnipesaukee its near a city called.........
Frost= water= H2O=Oxygen source
Can imaging Amos take that dude’s gun make him a human shield and start making abstract painting on snow😂
I hate that he brings out Timmy in Amos. But he is a great character.
Ok- enjoying as usual but - damn- great rings!!
She's running out of air cos everytime she leaves the ship it vents a little more through the door. That's why she's counting the number of times she leaves the area with the air.
Hehe that was one epic eye roll at Marco. 😂
But it's understandable Marco is a major dirtbag.
Edit: "It was the rose... it was 25% the rose" hahaha 😅
Correct, sub-orbital by definition can't reach orbit. It was a mistake in the script.
Angela : "I WANT AMOS IN MY CRAWL SPACE!!!!"
Sure you do, Angela.
Sure you do.
That much has been clear since you started reacting to this show.
#UnintendedInnuendo
For the finale, pleaseeee do both episodes =)
_"To define is to destroy. To suggest is to create."_ - Mallarme
It's one of my favourite quotes but I'm going to go against it to do something I rarely do, which is to 'correct' a viewer's perception.
"Pushing the 💩" 🤎🤎🤎
Going back to Niomi repeatedly going into vacuum and keeping track and of her Oxygen.
I’m totally stealing “sun is warm grass is green” as a calm-down mantra. Come here to enjoy the reaction but leave with some free coping tools ☀️🌱🍷
26:19, I have no idea if this is right or not but it just hit me the other day. Peach Melba. Melba, Peaches
The possibility that some internal doors connecting the launch area to interior hallways will burn people to cinders does make sense. What doesn’t make sense is using a system that would burn down your house and the surrounding surface for a really large radius.
Didn’t the Rocinante land on Ilus with just thrusters?
I think Erich just punched the fusion drive which basically melted the surroundings
The launch bay doors possibly also act as a blast shield for the house and trees when open. The thrust needed to take off is more than is needed to land, at least with conventional rockets, as this seems to be from the orange flames and, yeah, Erich probably just gunned it.
@@erezodier252 That's the correct answer. You can see him doing so while saying "f*ck it".
Man, we all need a stiff belt of WOE-zay for eps 9 and 10.
--EDIT--
Also, never apologize for the crawl space joke. 😂
Well you started out hating miller and his hat, and Holden's choices, but you came around. Then hating Ashford and Melba. And you came around again... Is Bull next? I guess we will just have to see.
I will never. Ever. Like Bull.
Yet. 😁
