I absolutely understand your confusion if you know FGO for the first time^^. Any Heroic Spirit summoned in various Holy Grail Wars would lose knowledge of the previous summoning (just like a copy), but I think Saber Artoria will know other versions of her based on the minimum information required to allow her to fit into any era when summoned (in FGO 'era')! All of her versions are summoned in different stages of her life, for example, we have Saber Lily Artoria - a young girl who just draws out the Caliburn sword begins her first journey to the path a king. Base on the top tier list, we have Saber Artoria ranked B and Lancer ranked C+, and base on the advantage of every class, Saber > Lancer. If you're interested, we also meet Archer, Caster, Rider, Ruler and Maid Artoria, just alot^^!
Oh my~...in my opinion, Altria 5-star is more suitable for farming (NP charge) and soloing 1vs1. However, if someone could kill the Bosses quickly, it could only be Lalter (especially in buster team). And...I'll choose both if someone asks "who is your waifu between them???" ^^!
5 star is farming and normal content, but she is kinda bad by herself The Alter is better because if you put her at lv 85 she will have more atack than a lv90 Artoria Lancer, and she has thebest Crit skill in the game, if pick a Hans or a Merlin her damage can be in the 100 thousands or more, and even though the lancer is better for farming Nezha or Jalter luly can be in her place if you have the Np charge mistic code so no, she isn't worth it just if you has her as a waifu in that case do what you want

Perhaps Lalter thought Mash's team was the enemies and she had a duty to protect Londinium after being summoned by the 'fog'. Holding the spear which had killed Mordred before, it was a fateful encounter. (I'm also overjoyed to summon Lalter successfully on her first debut^^)
I don't remember but im sure it has something to do about goddess rhongomyiad manifesting in camelot, I think after you met sherlock holmes or after you defeated goddess rhongomyniad merlin said something.
Lalter is one of the top damage dealers, both her Ex-NP (just need lv1) and skills can deal tons of damage when she is supported by Merlin and Waver (boss can defeated just by one blow^^) And, you can use her to solo bosses too (live or die^^). However, she needs a "babysitter" cause her luck is very low!
