To this day it is still Buggin' Out. After all these years. That's still the best shoe moment in cinema. My son cracks up over that scene as well. "Yooo!" lol. And then when the instigators start razzing him about his Jordan's being F'd up. Classic stuff right there. Peace to all and stay safe.
@louisblendz I think it's one of those "yo you gotta come on the show!" And they said they will, but schedule, life, etc come in the way and next thing up know it's 5 years that have gone by lol
I was a kid when they filmed he got game on my block in Coney Island Seeing him and Denzel wearing the 13s he told us Mike was gonna wear them the next season He was such a cool dude He told us basketball stories and sneaker stories The culture would never be what it is without Spike
Spike is really a GOAT 🐐 in the sneakers space! Let’s not forget legendary director! Spike has had so many legendary sneaker moments it’s insane. One of Brooklyn’s finest! Another great guest!
Most people don't know how much this man contributed to the legacy of Air Jordans. His commercials with Mike made most of us want the sneakers as much as watching Jordan play in them.
He was the 1st person to really introduce a culture of Sneakers into mainstream media. No other movie or show was really showcasing sneakers like that.
I graduated from Clark Atlanta University as a Mass Comm major and Spike Lee would come to our department all the time to talk to friends of his that were professors. One professor knew i was into sneakers and i would never forget walking into the department and them saying Spike was here. I ran back to my room and grabbed my Spizikes that at the time just were originally released. I got him to sign the hang tag and the shoe. He was such a cool guy and was shocked i had a pair on me out of the blue. Lol. This was before camera phones (well at least for me) i wish i had a picture to hold the memory
Thank you Spike for all you contributions to the film and sneaker culture. Without them commercials and movies shaping the culture we wouldn’t be able to look back and enjoy these memories today.
Spike Lee legendary in NY .Great work JLP ,and Complex for getting Spike on air ! Got to meet Spike at airport , on way to see Knicks in Toronto ,couldn't have been a more down to earth brother ! Genuine to the core! He was rockin' Knicks gear on the flight , and so was I ! " Orange and Blue Skies Baby ! Orange and Blue Skies " !
Incredible episode. Spike is an absolute legend both in sneaker and movie history. The culture needs to give him his flowers. So many iconic movies and scenes.
I definitely see Spike as the most OG sneaker head. Seeing his pics is really cool. I expected different picks but still solid. We need more of Uncle Spike.
@@Nostalgicknick48You are right! That is false. Spike is one of the reasons why Nike is a multi-trillion dollar company. They touched on it but he still doesn’t get enough credit.
Uhhhh .. I’m pretty sure there was A Man by the name of “Michael Jordan” who was the reason Jordan’s sold in the 90’s and until this day! lol .. 1ne love to Spike Lee tho! 🙏🏾
If people understood the importance of Spike Lee to Sneaker culture this vid would’ve been at 2 million and counting … put some Views and Respeck on the legend’s name 👑✅
One crazy thing about Spike is not only his influence over sneakers which Joe covered beautifully. He also changed the fitted hat game when he got New Era to make him a red Yankee cap with the 1996 side patch.
Spike gotta direct plug to the connect, he can get customized shoes made whenever. So explain why he needs to pay resell for sneakers he can get for free or at retail
I grew up in Bmore Im 59 my cuzzos from BKLYN rocked mostly Pro Keds in the 70s we rocked mostly the Jack Percells and Converse All Stars and we never called em Chucks LA cats started that…
I'm 46 and as someone who grew up in NYC during this golden era of sneakers, I can honestly say that Brooklyn was the first boro I ever noticed where kids all the way down to grandparents rocked Jordans. I remember seeing a whole family reunion at Coney Island rocking the Aqua 8's in 93, blew my mind.
The best episode imo . Spike with the knowledge and the pure love for the culture just makes you smile and feel good that we all do this for the love of shoes . Pure Legend frfr
Joe was right, Brandon and Matt are gonna love the next two episodes of Sneaker Shopping, I can only imagine who’s next 🥹👌🏾 I’m slowly becoming a fiend for these. Great show!
Spike Lee is past legendary status! For all you young folks, Spike is one of the reasons why Jordan’s are such big selling and legendary sneakers. This brotha created the iconic and very popular Michael Jordan, Morris Blackmon ad campaign during the 80’s. The character was from his first movie “she’s gotta have it”. I had the pleasure of sitting next to Spike at Super Bowl 25! We all know Soike is a huge knocks fan. He’s also a huge Giants fan! Great guy, we had so much fan. A time I will never forget! Much respect and continued success to the ICON living Mr. Spike Lee.
What’s your favorite pop culture sneaker moment?

Complex do a sneaker shopping with Orlando Brown
Seeing the episode of Martin when he gave the lil boy his pair of Jordan 12's

15 minutes isn't long enough. Need Spike on the Sneakers Show (Podcast)
Agreed. Now I see why Joe was hyping it on the show last week
Make it happen JLP
The fact we never got a FSR episode with Spike is an injustice
Facts but I'm sure complex don't got the budget for that kinda content

My favorite basketball movie after the Movie Rebound.

THIS ISNT enough for Spike Lee . He’s a legend in the Sneaker community and deserves to be in an episode of the podcast to discuss his experiences .
Spike is really a GOAT 🐐 in the sneakers space! Let’s not forget legendary director! Spike has had so many legendary sneaker moments it’s insane. One of Brooklyn’s finest! Another great guest!

I love spike energy man. wasnt born in that era but I love his movies and how he always includes sneaker culture in them and general. Respect, spike.
Spike is so endearingly goofy. It's beautiful.
The ‘he got game’ segment did so much for my heart! Thanks Joe and spike!
Ray Allen said hes trying to get Denzel Washington & Spike Lee to do He Got Game part 2.
Thank you Spike for all you contributions to the film and sneaker culture. Without them commercials and movies shaping the culture we wouldn’t be able to look back and enjoy these memories today.
One of best interviews by far. Definitely got to appreciate when you have an icon bless the stage. ML&R to the OG SPIKE LEE 💯
I’ve always loved Spikes energy. Them ol school cats have the best stories.
One of the most enjoyable interviews I’ve seen on Sneaker Shopping. Spike is the man!

Spike is a living ORIGINAL legend! Film markers are not made like him anymore. RESPECT!
Complex and Joe, this is your most important guest. Spike Lee!!!!
Such a great episode, always loved Spike Lee and he’s been such an impact. One of the main reasons why I wore spizikes back in the day.
Definitely one of the best episodes. This one needs to be an hour long.
Spike Lee is an absolute legend. Gotta recognize greatness!!!! Spizikes are some of my favorite Jordans. Salute to the brother 🙏🏼
