- This race is one of the most exciting ones I had been racing in Grand Prix 2, holding everyone before Jarno Trulli made it cool with his "Trulli Train", also somehow I managed to recover from a small blunder to finish in a really great position.
Fortunately neither the engine nor the other parts of the car had a fault which is a big relief. This track is really nice to hotlap or race on, however if you lose your concentration even for a moment, you ll crash and possibly retire from the race.

Well. GP 2, from Amiga 2000, is definitely one of the best F1 games ever. Yet, it lacked the road tilt/inclination drawing and physics effect. That started with the video-game called Super Burnout, launched in late 1996, for the great Atari Jaguar.
With also, the video-game called F1 World Grand Prix, launched in mid 1997, for the N64; being the first F1, simulating video-game, to have that same road tilt/inclination drawing and physics effect. That had been, already borrowed from the Shen Technologies company, video-game coder/developers; from the then, previous: Super Burnout, Atari product, that was the only timely decently concluded and delivered; video-game project for the back then, well engineered Atari Jaguar, gaming console.
I remember how even my Pentium Pro 200, overclocked to 233, only made like 25 fps.
So many hours for me !!!
That engine sound is better than F1 23 Codemasters. Honestly in shock at how good this looks too

little details makes this game great, the anticipation to wait all lights to go green and have a decent start without ruining the race of yours is absolutely essential.
That was my first videogame in 1996, it ran on Windows 95. Awesome stuff.

This simulator (and later GTR) pushed me to assemble my first DIY pedals with pots and electronic USB component from flight stick xD.
And now i am looking on guys which are playing GT7 with DD wheelbases...
I spent all my time in this game creating massive accidents and watching the replays. Best F1 game ever!

Wow I totally forgot about this game, cool to see it again. The graphics and sounds are pretty good for its time.
in my opinion the game aged quite well, especially with SVGA graphics and a decent sound card...
It was a little more than pretty good, way way ahead of anything at the time.
Das spiel gehört in die Hall of fame der Spiele. War was fahrphysik und KI seiner zeit weit voraus .
What I always liked most about this game was, that they had the exact camera angles on the replays like on TV. That was always so cool. Don't know how many hours of my childhood I spent with this. I than replaced it by F1 Racing Simulation because you had the chance to customize cars, so you could use the same game for many years, and always had the correct cars

the first grand prix game is great on amiga it is the superior version ms-dos version was fine as well but not much as detailed compared to amiga

When a videogame from the 90s is more realistic than today's "simulators"
for a while most people cares more about graphics instead of gameplay which is a shame, but ofc you can find decent modern simulators such as automobilista 1
What's the last sim you played that is less realistic than this? I had GP2 at the time and played it to death, but I would not go back to it when there are sims like Automobilista 1 & 2, Raceroom, rFactor2 or Assetto Corsa Competizione.

I was addicted to this game. Had to turn down the graphics low details, because my PC didn't work on full graphic details 😄

Best computer player AI ever. Difficulty was configurable so nicely and without causing rubber banding.
Thats right, I only wished a bit more flexibility. As far as I remember, you always had fixed stages of difficulty.

Steering sensitivity is better than ps1 and ps2 f1 games
I always wished I had the pc that could run this title smoothly...It was the Holy Grail of F1 Titles at the time but I couldn't even come close to running it smoothly
i played the sh.. out of this game back on my 300mhz pentium 2. such a great game and the replay was awesome for that time - also good for crash compilations :D
Wonderful game of f1 here in SVGA version but i remember i was obliged to use VGA setting with 256 colours😂
Using traction control (F7) is hampering your cornering speed. I can tell from the green light at the bottom next to the car damage display on the right hand side. If playing with a keyboard, this requires a bit of training on how to go on and off the throttle during the corners. Once you figured that out, you can ride less wings and play around with the dampers and stuff in the setup section. In the beginning it will gain you two seconds a lap.
If you are a bit more experienced, it will be between three to four seconds - and out of the sudden the highest level opponents will look like turtles to you on most tracks. At Aida (5-stop-strategy and going slower as you could are the key), Magny-Cours (use an asymmetric setup and a 4-pit-stop-strategy, since your left front tyre will suffer a lot of degradation!) and probably Hockenheim (set up moderate speed down the straights and focus yourself on grip in the old Motodrome-section) the game still will be challenging in the beginning by using that technique, but it pay off pretty soon.
Try to set up the car so that after approx. 20 to 50 laps the floor will turn red at most tracks. It will cost you some top speed for a couple of laps, but this effect will have less impact on your straight line speed after a while. On the other hand, you will make up a lot of time through high speed corners.
Except for Hockenheim and Monza (both 2 stops or 1 stop) consider at least 3 pit stops per race (100 % distance), since the car will be lighter and easier to handle. Fresh rubber means that you can push harder and that the car is much more forgiving if you produce an error.
Also, try to figure out when you will most likely be lapping the first back marker on track (depending on your advantage and the track usually something between lap 9 and 15). If you pit before passing that back marker, you also can attack on fresh boots and jump a few cars during their pit stops (GP2 opponents are hard coded idiots and often will stand in your way while trying to get or keep out of it, if you meet each other at the wrong place on the track). Front runners will be easy to overtake, since their strategy is one or two pit stops in most cases, which will make them have worn down rubber during the majority of the race (1 to 3 seconds slower compared to their fastest lap time set in lap 2 or 3 in a race).
In general, your second stint will be your slowest stint, since you have many cars to lap and many didn't drop out of the race yet.
Oh, and one last thing: Stay away from the curbs as much as you can!
Only my defective flux capacitor prevents me from going back in time to win the 1994 driver's title!

Fantastic memories! I still have this game on cd. I remember more than 20 years back played with a friend. On one PC. One of us was gas and brake with A and Z. Other stearing with and gear switch. We won a lot of races like that 😂

A friend of my father worked about 15 hours to make this Game run on that Windows 95 Computer that really was not made for games. It was my First racing game ever and i hat to play it with a Joystick (accelerate, brake and steer with one Joystick, Sounds incredible today xD), but because of all the help Systems it went okay. Some day i found out that i can switch off the automatic turn on the right direction and switch on the damages, from that moment i drove frontal in the opponents and watched the Cars Break in pieces ;) few years later i learned to Drive on PlayStation, absimulation like this was not the best to start with (but i really love to hear the Sounds again and to see the cockpit!)
Grand Prix 2 had a beefy system requirements, such as graphics card and the processor, this game have a steering support if you play this on keyboard like I did, if you play this on wheel it is 5 times harder and fun :v
And the sound was recorded using a pressurized air driven screwdriver. (realized some years later while working in a roof window factory's assembly line with such a tool :D)

Poor olivier panis, his pace was declined after the crash, the team was going some places but that unfortunate crash changed everything :(

there is a rfactor 1 and automobilista 1 mod called "grand prix evolution" if someone have a server we could race in it :D

@@DanielLima-mm6xn first of all download either, rfactor 1 or automobilista 1, then download the grand prix evolution mod from race department, install it and enjoy the cars, perhaps I ll make a video about that mod in the future...

This game looks almost great today
Did anyone ever play the Kelloggs Frosties Grrrrrand Prix game that was based on this game (I think, might have been GP3)? You got the discs free with boxes of Frosties (there were 4 from memory) and each disc gave you more tracks. If you installed all 4 you got the whole season and there was a bonus mode that had cars from 1950 and a retro track that was really long, not sure if it was a real track or not, wasn’t Nurburgring or Spa. It was based on the 1997 season, cars looked different and the drivers and teams had different names but it was clearly the 97 season, tracks were all the same as 97. Pretty sure you could change all the driver and team names anyway, I recall making Michael Schumachers name (who I was not a fan of at the time) something mildly offensive. The game came along a few years after the original GP2 though, presumably after folk stopped buying it, I would guess around 2002/3. Amazing how much memories watching a video about a different game can bring back! Loved that game, spent hours on it, free and I got to eat loads of boxes of Frosties, win on so many levels!
I had never heard of that game until now 😅 that game is based of Monaco Grand Prix Racing Simulation 2, which is a decent game, also you can find this game on archive.org

How the hell does this look so damn good for a 1996 DOS game? Seriously it moves so smoothly with a great frame rate, it's so fast, there's no pop in, the textures look so crisp and clean. Does this default game look like this, or is it only the mod that makes it look this good?
I have use SVGA graphics in the game options, the VGA graphics made it bit worse but it is fun in both graphics options

I think the 5th gear was too long for race trim. Probably had the upside of reliability but downside of top end pace.
I always use 5th gear as the top gear rather than 6th, couldnt figured out to use the 6th gear with higher rear downforce

also it is a really chaotic race, and the top drivers are dropped down by the relability problems, herbert's renault engine have more power+ accelaration compared to ligier's mugen, perhaps they ll do something for 1996 :v

@@duffman18 I don't have the hardware to play it. I need to find a computer with a CD Rom Drive. ( I have not seen one of those in years ). Damon Hill, David Coulthard, Michael Schumacher, Jos Verstappen, Martin 'Freaken' Brundle, Eddie Irvine, Gerhard Berger. This game had Legends.

As I can see, you are entering too late to corners. Try enter more slowly and accelerate during it instead braking, so you can get more corner exit speed..

é 3d, no entanto por causa do cockpit parece 2d, também este jogo é antigo, eles só tinham uma única câmara para o cockpit, eu usei o google translate e peço desculpa se a tradução está errada.
