- The Radio One Sessions (1996) is a CD by The Damned consisting of all their BBC sessions for Janice Long, Mike Read and Saturday Live [another Radio One show] - in other words all their Radio One sessions except the ones recorded for John Peel. In addition there are two tracks which were recorded for Peel, the tracks Liar and Hit Or Miss.
excellent! i've not heard this version... and i'm going to just say it: Objectively - Phantasmagoria is solid, front to back. Objectively.
Best version heard this version first time today
damn good song!
Se te extraña joy
The BBC versions of the Phantasmagoria era songs, whether it’s the “Radio One Sessions” collection or the “Sessions Of The Damned” stuff, is absolutely and unequivocally the *BEST* recordings of those songs in representation.
I don’t hate Phantasmagoria, though I’ll admit that I was really disappointed with it when it came out back in ‘85. It wasn’t the songs themselves that I was bummed about, it was the way they were produced. All that mid 80’s high gloss was highly irritating, and it was obvious that the producer had been telling Rat to hold back. That wonderful Damned energy was just missing. It sounded restrained and overproduced… but what was really frustrating was that the songs were actually well written, and had so much potential.
So, about a decade or so later, when these BBC sessions finally got a proper release, I at last got to hear them the way I imagined they had originally been intended to sound… and it was a world of difference. Just so incredibly good.
My street smells off hash
Now you have to tell us where that is! ;)
My street smells of skunks, defeat, desperation, and mental illness.
