In honor of Judith Jamison's upcoming birthday, Director of Preservation Norton Owen share some favorite treasures from the Jacob's Pillow Archives. Two different excerpts from a memorable PillowTalk in 2012 cover some of Jamison's beginnings as a young dancer in Philadelphia and how she first came to the attention of her mentor, Alvin Ailey. She also talks about dancing with Mikhail Baryshnikov and starring on Broadway in "Sophisticated Ladies".

Dena Lowenbach: I worked at NJPAC from the start, and had the great pleasure of meeting Ms. Jamison the very first time the Alvin Ailey Dance Company appeared, which it continues to do every Mother's Day Weekend. Happy Happy birthday, Ms. Jamison!

I remember seeing Ms. Jamison at the City Center in NY back in the '70's or '80s...I can not remember, but what I do not forget is being up in the upper seats and watching Revelations. I remember clearly being amazed at what a wonderful piece of work. I could not move for a few minutes after the performance of AA and Ms. Jamison. I believe I was in my 20s or 30s...thank you for doing this live stream interview.
