I love exurb1a’s videos because they relieve the stress and worries of my day-to-day life by replacing them with all-encompassing existential dread.
This !!! it was an extremely welcomed video. from sauntering around colours and experience, to existential meaningless and nothingness, to joyous hope, to an abstract ending where even god would have put a full stop, rather than an exclamation mark.
I'm right at home! I've had a life long existential crisis! Vincent Van Gogh did this for me at the age of 9 back in 1972. Now of course, we have the Internet and social media to fulfill this role.

When I was a sprout a teacher explained that white was an effect of all light being present and black being the absence of light. (I.e. all wavelengths being either reflected or absorbed by the object in question, then interpreted by chemicals in our brains) When I understood it occurred to me that the only substance that could be defined as light either present or absent was light itself. Like my peers discovering santa does not exist this idea that black and white simply do not exist outside of this inexact individual interpretation of a substance that itself is invisible without something to bounce off of in the first place... changed me forever. I was in 3rd grade art class the day I was born, and it was a very long time indeed before I learned I had not been born into the world alone. It would have been a comfort if anyone else had been distressed by this with me, so i could indulge a panic attack that had to instead be obediently stamped out without anyone noticing. They all seemed mad to me quietly pretending to listen because it did not matter to them that everything they saw was a sloppy faximile of what might really be in front of them. I had monsters under my bed and now there was no way to know for sure that I hadn't seen them.

The typical exurb1a video goes as follows
Englishman talks about everyday experience.
Englishman begins a tangent that leads him to a scientific question.
Englishman gets increasingly loud as he transitions from scientific questioning to existencial dread.
After screaming, the Englishman calms down and tries to lead the tangent back to where he started somehow having learned something along the way.
Englishman gets too calm and cozy so he cracks a funny.

Allot of nihilists take nihilism as an excuse for being and ashole.
This is the question i keep coming back to: “what is consciousness? How am i aware of myself? Would it be better if i was on auto pilot and my memory stopped recording everything?” But i tend to think. That i prefer being able to decide and remember my experiences.
Although, i personally feel that sentience is overrated, people are more similar to machines and inanimate objects than they think. I suppose that makes me a materialist
What is consciousness always seems to bring me back to “Is there a God, a creator of the universe, something before nothing, etc. There’s so many similarities between religions separated by time and space . I believe there is, but there seems to be no way to prove it. To me it seems the best way if done the right way to help people have better lives and treat others well. Even if it’s not real, isn’t there some moral value in the core beliefs?
People calling this video depressing ehen actually is the reverse. This video are perfect for cheering you up
RUclips Wanderer How could I ever be happy knowing I could never experience asparagus piss?
I think it actually depends on your mindset.
An optimist and a pessimist will look at it differently. For some I guess they'll feel like we were just put here to suffer and consciousness is a curse, for some is the opposite and a blessing. The mystery could lead to other answers, but some won't necassarily be good, and some might feep the fact that we don't even get to understand our consciouseness is a curse.
I personally find all the video's on this channel inspiring and often watch them when I feel unmotivated.
But some like this are a definate emotional grey area to me as the perception topics seem inherently tied to our already existing perception of life and ourselves as individuals and as a collective.
Oh, also some people kind of just freak out with meaning of life topics almost like a phobia.
Also, also, one day there will be no mysteries left is a pretty sad thought that was mentioned.
TLDR: I have friends who have an easier time seeing small negatives then the far larger positives.
I guess thinking too much about such a complex topic with their mindset will make it seem depressng and other people may be similar.
Eh if you haven’t heard of such existentialism before maybe, but after awhile it gets stale, it’s beyond me how people can ride this same wonder till their death, using it justify the continuation of the same processes that perpetuate suffering endlessly here... I guess they never thought about it beyond the wanky cycle.

You should read the book, Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid, by Douglas Hofstadter, if you haven’t already, it talks a lot about new phenomena rising from sufficiently complex systems and self reference being key to consciousness. Like how dna has the information to make itself, one form of self reference, and how self reference is the basis of contradiction in formal systems, like Gödel’s incompleteness theorem, or for example the sentence “this sentence is false” is neither true or false, and that contradiction comes from the self reference of the statement “this sentence”. That’s just a slice of the book but I’m sure you or anyone who found this video thought provoking would enjoy it.
You know, he's probably read it. Along with "The Mind's Eye", "The Emperor's New Mind", "Consciousness Explained" and a whole library... good title to mention though, and your summary is on point.

So technically we have no clue if what we are experiencing is what we are truly experiencing, so theoretically our lives could just be fever dreams
That would explain a lot of things
They can be fever dreams, but to say we have no clue if what we are experiencing is what we are truly experiencing is kind of backwards. The only thing you *can* be certain of is that what we are experiencing is what we are experiencing. All the other stuff you can never be certain of, whether there is such a thing as reality, whether this is a dream, whether God exists, etc. We're always trying to explain the situation backwards. First we assume there is a reality, and then we try to explain ourselves within that reality. The more logical thing would be to consider ourselves (consciousness) the reality, and put question marks everywhere else. Consciousness, and the experiences within it, are the only things that you cannot question. Everything else is up for debate.

Then, the Sudanese fighters played this absolute masterpiece, we then began to all put down our guns and dance to this lyrical masterpiece. Thank you, sir. For Peace this song changed my life. My entire view of everything that exists in this world, in fact, even in the entire universe. I can never look at anything I know the same way again. This song represents emotions that most humans could never understand. But I can. Thanks to this song I was awakened to many things previously considered unimaginable. Thank you for this exquisite song. This video is an exquisite masterpiece, out of every single video I have ever even heard of on the entire platform, this by far has enlightened me to do fly, lose 90 pounds and even become the president of the United States, and I'm going to tell you why this is such a masterpiece as if hearing the creators, no, god of this universes luscious voice. I would like to express my thanks to you. My gratitude for your indisputably magnificent assistance is almost infinite. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed. I really like your contribution that you have in our society, you really make a difference and help others out, the world could always use more people like you. Gosh, what a polite and humble fellow. It is such a kind honour for someone as low as me to be in contact with someone of a level such as yours. I thank you once again my good friend. A world without you, would be a world I would not be able to live in, and I believe I share that opinion with most people. I can rest easy tonight knowing you helped. I appreciate you and everything you stand for and on behalf of everyone on planet earth, thanks. Yes I 100% agree no lie I am 10/10 with you in this statement no question. You are completely absolutely correct and have made no mistake in your sentence whatsoever and I applaud you for that as you have made a thoughtful statement that many agree with and those that disagree are in the minority because your statement has absolutely no faults and thus is completely without a question correct and deserves nothing but agreement. and by the way, super saiyan blue theme is a very powerful, moving song that showcased the capabilities of human emotion. It used groundbreaking technology to create stunning sounds that would mesmerize the listeners. This song is suitable for all ages; whether you're 5 years old, or 50, you should listen to this song. It is inspiring and it showcases the spectrum of human nature and how humans communicate with each other. This song revolutionized the music industry and set the bar high for other songs. In the future historians will look back on this song and regard it as the pinnacle of human achievement. It was a roller-coaster from start to finish, the nail-biting song will leave you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Listeners will find themselves absorbed by the heartwarming tale of a relentless, determined african tribes who didn't let societies standards shape his/her/it's life. I was shocked by how intense and gripping this song was. The plot is rich, unpredictable and touching. This isn't your typical african war song, this song is a war with one's emotions. Tales of africa is a stirring masterpiece that only comes once in a millennium. This thrilling instruments makes it a jaw-dropping performance that properly utilizes the medium. I rate this song 10 african tribes/10 african tribes, and will never listen to it again as every time I get saddened by the the fact that there will never be a song to match this masterpiece.

Friend! One of your videos was suggested quite randomly to me and that's such blind luck. Guess the RUclips algorithm works sometimes, huh? Ridiculous.
Anyway, I really love your videos, especially the one about 8 million aliens and the nuclear weapons one, but dude! I'm here for a different reason! I THOUGHT I recognised Melnik from your video story about Tao and the snake (during which I cried legit tears) but now I can say, without a doubt, this is my hometown! Здравей от Пловдив! ♥️♥️♥️♥️ My favorite town in the Universe. Certainly not the cleanest or the best organized or the prettiest or whatever, God no, it's atrocious and the traffic is.....eugh, but it's my favourite! I'm so pleased you get to experience it and even show it in your videos! I'm so honoured, really. That hill you last showed was where we scattered granddad's ashes from, he loved our city so much. Anyway, your videos are amazing, your stories make me cry happy tears and thank you for showing parts of Bulgarian culture! And remember- rakiya always goes with мезе/appetizers! 😉 Жив и здрав, приятелю.

In my opinion, a bigger question than “what is consciousness” is “why MY consciousness? Why do I experience from this point of view out of all the possible ones in the universe?”
Consciousness is infinite and eternal. Our infinitesimal slice of individual consciousness is what we call “I”. The collective consciousness, all our infinitesimal points of consciousness taken together is what is known as God. This supreme consciousness experiences all experience there is to know- it is aware of all and everything, these individual points of consciousness that we are as living beings. In other words. God experiences the universe through us, through you, through me.
Why this point of view? Before your ego self dies and you again merge completely with the infinite consciousness of existence, this experience you are having right now is part of Gods journey in experiencing all there is. You are a vessel for the universe experiencing itself, and this moment is a minute, incredibly small part of that infinite story, yet this moment itself is integral for consciousness, or God, to experience all there is.
Consciousness does not arise from matter. Matter arises from consciousness- and this is a reality we can all experience simply be looking within. Here’s an incredible video on the topic: ruclips.net/video/uYXv32kfeQ4/видео.html
I couldn’t recommend anything else. Look into Spira’s teachings, they are so incredibly profound.
I wish you all the best. Take care!
Why does that need to be a question? If it wasn't your consciousness, who's else would it be? Do you think your finger sits on your hand thinking "why aren't I a lung?". You are what you are, no matter what you might be. If you were something else you'd still be thinking "why am I not something else?" because there will always be something else. It's not like everyone else is a NPC, I've got the consciousness thing covered from this POV, you've got your POV. You can't see through my eyes because my eyes are connected to my brain, not yours.
It feels like a more abstract question. I used to ask myself this all the time, looking at other people and wondering what it would’ve been like if my consciousness didn’t belong to me- or the me that i currently am- this fleshy body.
You’re stuck from this one pov and sometimes it just ain’t fun.
and then that begs the question of if theres a way to have more than one pov to look from.
@@joez6235 exactly but my point is, why is this MY brain? I mean, do you think these things happen by chance? But if they do, whose rolling the dice?

I'd like to imagine the way he gets his ideas is just having a normal conversation, someone says something like "Unlimited Rice Pudding" and he just goes and makes a science video based off it.
Being serious, UNLIMITED RICE PUDDING is the best thing in the world. I might just invent a time machine so I can go and get some
"I am closer to you than your breath." "I am that: I am." Good discription for consciousness straight out of the bible. You are the one, that knows. So what we call "I am" IS consciousness.
You sir, will be remembered as one of the greatest philosophers of this generation
Maybe the greatest of Internet philosophers, but not the greatest of "academic" philosophers (so to speak). Exurb1a is really just showing to the people questions that philosophers asked and tried to answer centuries ago, and converts it into a contemporary idea with all the new stuff we have and with a very accessible dialogue. I hope this doesn't sound as me bragging, but this is the standard conversation that I have with my fellow apes.
That doesn't mean I don't love the guy, of course
no, idiot. He is just a random curious dude with funny writing skills. He is talented, don't get me wrong, but he isn't original. He is just making academic stuff funny and accessible. He is a legendary youtuber not a philosopher.
