You should watch their Concert from Central Park in 1981. Both Paul & Art sing this & it's very beautiful.

An incredibly beautiful song from the famous song writing collective of Hassler, Gerhardt, Bach und Simon 😉

I've enjoyed his talent for decades. My first 45 was Paul Simon with Kodachrom and Love Me Like a Rock, solid tunes. Great reaction, he's quite a writer.

This song never ceases to make me cry. It came out at a time when the nation was going through a malaise after the fall of the Nixon Administration. Corrupt government and the Vietnam War still echoed throughout the country . This song encapsulates that feeling to me. Simon was as great in his solo career as he was with Garfunkel. You have to check out his solo albums. To me the two best are his first Paul Simon (with songs like Mother and Child Reunion and Me and Julio Down By The School Yard) and There Goes Rhymin' Simon! (with great songs like Kodachrome and Love Me Like A Rock ). Thanks for the great reaction.

You have a boatload of Paul Simon songs to experience. You will find his solo music has great variety, is well produced, and lyrically outstanding.

Fun Fact: the main melody of this song is based on the the hymn "O Sacred Head Now Wounded." The melody for the hymn was written in 1600 by Hans Leo Hassler for a love song, "Mein G'müt ist mir verwirret" (My Mind Is Confused); it was later applied to the words of the hymn.

Garfunkel solo had a huge hit with Bright Eyes, the theme song from the animation film Watership Down.

The experience we call "Life".... "I asked the captain what his name was, and how come he didn't drive a truck?, He said his name was "Columbus" and I just said...."Good Luck" - Bob Dylan.

Garfunkel had a couple hits going solo but nothing all that big, iirc. "All I Know" is one of them to me that is a personal gem. Soaring vocals, profound lyrics.

Art Garfunkel did some solo stuff, but then decided, for reasons known to him, he decided to become a High School teacher.

Boomer here who grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel. Please try "Duncan", "A Hazy Shade of Winter", "At the Zoo", and "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes". All of them are simply fantastic examples of what a true artist can do.

You can't go wrong with any of Paul Simon's music (or any of Simon & Garfunkel's music). Here is Steve Martin opening the tribute to Paul Simon when he became a Kennedy Center Honoree some years ago:

Simon and Garfunkel came together for a concert outside in NY. But I don't think they ever got back together. So sad because Garfunkel has a beautiful tenor voice

Kodachrome and Love Me Like a Rock would be great to check out if you haven't already. Paul played American Tune on I believe the Stephen Colbert show after 9/11.

'An American Tune' is, of course, slightly sarcastic; the Statue of Liberty? (Remember what's written on that statue.....)

It is a wonderful track for all the reasons you articulated. They split up in 1970 and pursued solo careers. In 1981, Simon & Garfunkel reunited for a free public concert in New York City's Central Park. It was a fantastic performance and they sang this song as a duo. It was simply magical. You might wish to watch it in your own time.

Great selection, great songwriter and artist Paul Simon. I do have one request, you should always start with the audio version of a song.. Live versions are great, but they don’t capture the mood of the song or the artist. Not to mention the sound quality… nevertheless, I love your channel and your commentary and your song selection. Keep it up..😎

The studio version is brilliant with the strings arranged by Del Newman.
Yes, Art Garfunkel had a solo career. Listen to his first album Angel Claire. Also, the Burt Bacharach/Hal David tune "99 Miles From L.A."...and many more.

I saw a Simon interview and he said they broke up because Garfunkel wasn't showing up to the studio appointments and was more interested in the video end rather than the music
    And stopped taking it seriously
    I prefer Paul alone
You really should delve into his stuff he's so talented and versatile
Graceland,Mother and child reunion, Obvious child and Kodachrome are just a very few songs out of hundreds to listen to😊

This was written at a time of great upheaval and change in America. So it seems applicable to any time you're living in. But modern chaotic forces threaten our democracy and we feel exhausted from the constant battle to just remain ourselves. We take what rest we can but know we must keep going. 🧓🇺🇲
