This is an amazing song with such a heartfelt and powerful message. I was thinking how it is relevant to what is going on in the world today. The video was pretty well received in its day.
Compared to their other hits this one takes a little more time to appreciate. But musically it's a lot more ambitious. Obviously it's Beatles influenced; a homage. And I think they do a great job with it.
Their Beatles moment. I knew the song and the visuals were so obviously inspired by The Beatles, but I've never seen that Paul McCartney clip. I think Tears for Fears are great, but it's a testament to the wit and charisma of McCartney that his clip was my favorite part of this reaction ;)
I'm kinda embarrassed that I didn't make the Beatle connection. Maybe it's because this isn't my favorite song from them, although I do enjoy it. Paul McCartney was pretty cool about it, which was nice to see. I liked the added clip of him talking about it and wouldn't mind if you guys did that more often. 🤓 As always, I appreciate the honest reaction! Much love from Oregon! ❤
Fenom's right that the three hits from Songs From The Big Chair are ALL-TIME great songs. As derivative as this song may be of The Beatles, those previous songs are completely original musical masterpieces, as is that album.
It's as if the Beatles had access to computers and could actually sing. Whoever recommended this song to y'all needs to be commended. It might be hard to comprehend but, this is one of the bestest pop songs ever composed. EVER. I mean... I can't even begin to explain why this is an all-time masterpiece because the likes of it may never happen again. Yes. It's that good. Even if you can't quite believe it right now.
back in my 1st College year 1989-90… we had lunch at Pizza Hut 🇵🇷 and they had a music video machine.. you put money and choose the video! almost everytime I put this song 😂
Fellas I got to C Tears For Fears for free at downtown O-town. They played all their great hits. My favorite Tears For Fears song will always be Shout!!!.
Since this is such a heavily Beatles-inspired song, I guess by the guys' reactions that they are not really into The Beatles or that sound? Nothing wrong with that, it just made me think that whenever I hear a Beatles-esque song I don't think "What a ripoff", I think "Sounds like The Beatles -- cool!"
"Apparantley Joe Strummer thought Roland Orzabal got the title of the hit Everybody Wants To Rule The World from The Clash's 'Charlie Don't Surf'. Strummer confronted Orzabal and said he owed him. Orzabal obliged, taking a five pound note out of his pocket"
I love this song for the message it inspires! Of course it's a tribute to the Beatles! Thanks for showing the clip of Paul McCartney, never saw it before!
One of my favorites from TFF! Definitely in homage to The Beatles and loved Paul's reaction. I don't find the Video not up to par, it's more enjoyable than a lot of today's stuff. 👍
Beatles-esque can be a lot of things depending on what era it refers to. And as Paul says, this is Summer of Love era Beatles-esque. Sgt Pepper in all from the loaded arrangement and orchestrated production, to the piccolo trumpet solo à la Penny Lane. It is an obvious stylistic choice if you're going to relay a message similar to that of 1967. However, I do think Paul would be a little less confrontational about it these days - back in 1989 he was probably still feeling competitive, as he was still prolific on the charts.
🇬🇧 Takes me instantly back to being a teenager again (i was born in 1969, so all my teenage years were in the 80s). They are a good British band, maybe not Premier League level but they cranked out some great hits in the 80s
Love TFF. I enjoy this song, it was them in America and learning about politics here. This album had several on it but I suooose the faster pace of the others you may enjoy more. The song 🎧 🎵 “EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD”. 🌎 there is another one
When I hear this song while shopping, I stop & enjoy the moment. I pretend to text. It’s those drum fills towards the end that are so Beatle-esque they are better than the Beatles.
Was gonna bring up the Weller reference, pretty much as Ollie mentioned, The Jam was a more street band and Style Council was little more showy. The Jam are worthwhile... Art School, in the city, little boy soldiers, Town called malice, funeral pyre, the bitterest pill... The list goes on and on.
This is my favorite TFF song, I was never too into them, but this one hits different for me. I was a teenager when it came out, and my family was very politically involved. I can't understand how this song could shoot to #2, yet my generation has now put us all in this horrible situation. I won't go all political, but the Trump Trauma is real and this song has never been more pertinent. JMO.
Please, please can you react to David Bowie live in Berlin 2002? I always loved this song. It always leaves me 'up'. Very Beatles like. I love how much it changes and of course their harmonies are fantastic as always. I like the video too. Thanks for that guys. Hope you can get round to the Bowie request. You'll love it.
Not sure thought it was early 90s summer of love revival for some strange reason , this one was playing everywhere they had lots of 80s success but it was all a bit sophisto pop ....music for yuppies guess I couldn't appreciate them I was into street sounds mostly... but can't deny there impact
The whole song sounds almost exactly like the Beatles "I Am the Walrus" with a few variations along the way, inspired by other Beatles songs. I don't care if they said it was a "tribute" to the Beatles sound (even Paul seemed to find that disingenuous) - it just sounds like a rip-off to me, including the message, which so many artists keep trying to get across. Not buying it.
This is an amazing song with such a heartfelt and powerful message. I was thinking how it is relevant to what is going on in the world today. The video was pretty well received in its day.
You're absolutely right. And that song was actualy created in quite a similar context back then in the UK.
@@niconemo3929 it came out in '88 right? the summer of love!
Compared to their other hits this one takes a little more time to appreciate. But musically it's a lot more ambitious. Obviously it's Beatles influenced; a homage. And I think they do a great job with it.
A great Beatles homage and a great song in it's own right.
I love all the transitions in this song. It's not your garden-variety pop hit.
They have a catalogue of great music. Woman in chains, mad world, shout ect. Explore them
Woman in Chains is brilliant!!!
Woman in Chains is my favourite track of theirs. So emotional and executed perfectly.
Yep - Woman in Chains is their only song that has remained on my playlist … timeless.
You guys have to listen to their song titled "Woman In Chains" featuring Oleta Adams.
This or Mad World
Woman in Chains is a Brilliant song!
I second that. Lush, beautiful, brilliant.
A visual and audial masterpiece!
Production just kicks ass!
''Beatlesque'' is not a steal, it's a style...
I don't think Paul agreed...
Specifically, I think it "borrows" the main riff from John's I am the Walrus.
“Brian Wilson Says” is a great homage to some of the more pastoral progressive stuff Brian might have done… I loved it.
This is my favorite Tears for Fears song!
Mine too!
Ditto. It's phenomenal IMO.
I'm kinda embarrassed that I didn't make the Beatle connection. Maybe it's because this isn't my favorite song from them, although I do enjoy it. The whole album is very good.
Only thing missing.. "I am the Walrus, I am the Walrus, goo-goo g'joob" LOL.
Fenom's right that the three hits from Songs From The Big Chair are ALL-TIME great songs. As derivative as this song may be of The Beatles, those previous songs are completely original musical masterpieces, as is that album.
Their World Party moment! 😂 (R.I.P. Karl Wallinger)
Never heard this song before, I love Tears For fears, this one is very different, a Beatles sounding. I like it a lot!👍👏👏👏💜💜💜☮️
Love this song & video❤❤❤❤👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Check out their another best message song "WOMEN IN CHAINS"
This whole album is fire, you should listen Woman in Chains❤

This song always had a Beatles feel to it ✌️
Yeah, and that middle section with the trumpets points directly to Paul as the influence for this.

This is in my top 5 of TFF. Video is fine, can watch it all the time. Great message.
I love this song for the message it inspires! Of course it's a tribute to the Beatles! Thanks for showing the clip of Paul McCartney, never saw it before!
Tears For Fears are criminally underrated
Thanks for this Reaction I love ❤️ it Thanks Guys
Now go check out " The Hurting" their first album, especially " Change" and Pale Shelter "🎉🎉
Thanks guys
Video not phenomenal now but back than it was really cool. ✌️❤️
One of my favorites from TFF! Definitely in homage to The Beatles and loved Paul's reaction. I don't find the Video not up to par, it's more enjoyable than a lot of today's stuff. 👍
Now you have to listen to the Beatles’ I Am the Walrus -with lyrics!
One of tge best albums ever recorded, this track was a Beatles pastiche with great political relevance for the late 80's
Beatles-esque can be a lot of things depending on what era it refers to. And as Paul says, this is Summer of Love era Beatles-esque. Sgt Pepper in all from the loaded arrangement and orchestrated production, to the piccolo trumpet solo à la Penny Lane. My favorite 80's group also someday check out The Call they rocked the 80's too.
🇬🇧 Takes me instantly back to being a teenager again (i was born in 1969, so all my teenage years were in the 80s). They are a good British band, maybe not Premier League level but they cranked out some great hits in the 80s

UK also. Politician Granny is Margaret Thatcher, I understand.
i still have this album! the 80s was awesome!
So relevant
Yes it's a Message Song 🎵
MC5’s Kick Out The Jams is one of the most rockin’ bangers ever. Would love to see your take on it
1969 version is best. Gold glitter jacket version (1972) is an unwatchable mess
When I hear this song while shopping, I stop & enjoy the moment. I pretend to text. It’s those drum fills towards the end that are so Beatle-esque they are better than the Beatles.

I really like it a lot!

Ah I have happy memories when I hear this song 🎵 ❤️
To me, this is their best song.
gotta do black sabbath- sweet leaf !
Their best one

Lol love how Olli clowns Corey all the time lol!
The Jam was a good band. "The Bitterest Pill" and "Going Underground" or "Beat Surrender" are good hits. Early stuff is good too.
good band in the early 80's that is it....
Ollii, be you, and if someone doesn't like it, then screw them.
Nice Beatle sounds.
I recommend
Depeche Mode - I feel you !!!
Same album, but do “Badman’s Song” with Oleta Adams. Unreal.
They had the album in Songs from the Big Chair. That is where it ends folks
McCartney is right as it is a homage to the Beatles! Kind of like I Am The Walrus meets the horns of Penny Lane and everything else between.
not just me. Take time to be kind
Not sure thought it was early 90s summer of love revival for some strange reason , this one was playing everywhere they had lots of 80s success but it was all a bit sophisto pop ....music for yuppies guess I couldn't appreciate them I was into street sounds mostly... but can't deny there impact
kick out the style and bring back The Jam!
10:00
That is the fake Paul!
saul lol
Please. Don't be an idiot.
The most expensive single ever recorded (at the time).
Yes, and the music video was quite phenomenal at the time, maybe not in 2024 anymore (although the symbolism is still relevant)
This song could be about Trump...
Great reaction fellas. You must listen to Bad Man’s Song and Woman in Chains from this album. Way better songs than Sowing. ❤
as. it starts i’ll end
Yes, it's very Beatles sounding.
Mad World by Tears for Fears is the best… I think you will like it.
Can you please react to Closest Thing To Heaven by Tears For Fears, music video request please 😊😊😊😊❤
bottom guy looks totally disinterested
actually?
judge not to all

That your opinion, I don't find it a ripoff at all.
