I have driven both the Ora and the MG4 and the MG4 is a much better all-round car although neither are great they are both just OK for the new discounted prices which reflects more accurately what these cars should have been priced at in the first place. There is no Ora in Australia for $15k USD ($23,600 AUD) new and far fewer people care about V2x than you think. The $26,990 price you see in WA is for 2022 and 2023 manufactured unsold but in most cases sub 100km, dealer demonstrators - not a "new" car in the strictest sense. You are seeing this because GWM vastly over-estimated demand for this car in Australia and had to stop importing new ones over a year ago - pricing reflects the need to get rid of 2 year old and in some cases cars that are about to be 3 years old in a couple of weeks. All Oras in Australia are August 2023 or earlier manufactured dates ( yes even the configure your car new from the website cars you will get an August 2023 or earlier manufactred car), many sat in holding yards for over a year before getting compliance plates because of the excess supply. GWM has confirmed there are no plans to bring in 2024 or 2025 manufactured models - these are effectively in end-of-model excess inventory clearout mode.
Sam, great story many thanks, I have installed PV on my house (10kW and storage 27kWh, I export 40 kWH on a good day after charging my batteries) and have no power bill for the majority of the year. I am happy but the amount of export energy I'm sending back to the grid is out of control. So I was actually thinking of a Nissan Leaf as a second car but the Ora looks like a much better choice for only a little more money. I am a retired Energy Consultant and the V2G has been around for a while but as you say only recently approved for use in OZ but the chargers have always been the achillies heal I hope that Amibox and Similar is going to export to OZ, there is another retailer selling a similar unit out of VIC but also similar money. Why on earth would you send your energy back to the Energy Retail Vultures to make a 600% profit off the energy you produced. Fill up the car's battery so you can drive locally without worries and then sell the excess back to the Grid.
$33,990 is the cheapest extended range i can find in Victoria Australia today. Where did this dude get it for 27k. That's Aussie dollars for all you internationals which is 21.6k U.S
In California you can't get an on-line system that is bigger than the home power usage, I think it's like 80% of usage, to get a solar system like you have would require we go off-line off-grid, I was able to cheat the system by using tons of power running my servers in my apartment then when I bought a house I had years of high power usage history and bills so I could then cover my entire small roof with solar and in fact they had to not use one panel because a pipe was in the way, so I'm 1 panel short of having 100% legal coverage on my roof (have to leave room for walking around them in case of fire) I have 36 panels 9KW with a single 7.5 KW inverter (it's fine because all the panels don't get full sun at the same time most of the time, it might have hit 100% a few times the first summer but not since, due to lack of rain and living in range of forest fire smoke and two oil refineries.
Rivian has stated that their vehicles are set up to V2G, however the standards have not been set yet and this capability has not been enabled yet. There are rumors it will be resolved soon with inverters hitting the market early 2025, but we will see about that.
Brought an ora extended range for 36000 a year ago. Could get it 10 grand cheaper now, but I have had 12 months with no fuel costs so it is about break even. As for Dutton's nuclear power plant, it only starts if we are stupid enough to vote for another delay in the power transition. My view, the Liberals have allready done enough damage.
Right?? They just want to drag coal out as long as they can. If nuclear ever was an option for us, it's in the past now and too late. We have solutions available to us now that are able to be stood up much faster and scaled up over time. I really hope not too many people are foolish enough to fall for the nuclear scam. 2037 (likely pushing to 2040) before even one single plant is TURNED ON, let alone up and running at maximum/optimal capacity is INSANE! We need cleaner energy now, not in 15+ years' time.

Good to hear there is some thinking going on here in Australia at last. It makes sense to use an EV in the power supply mix. Your view on Dutton is correct Sam. That mob will never see it. Dutton will try to do to the energy sector the same as his outfit (TurnbullAbbott) did to the Internet here in Australia. That is to BIAU. Question please::: where do you buy this $24K Ora car here????
Yeah, I found the same, and that's the 48 kWH model, not the 60 kWH that he's talking about in the video. So I'm not sure where 26k is being done at? Either way, it's good to see more affordability.

I might be able to power my house through the night which would traditionally cost me like $10 a night in winter and $5 in summer. But i get an Ora with the package which is actually a nice car. Im gonna have to have a good think about this one. I think Sam is pushing himself and this whole electric thing a bit too far as it is his job so needs to find sources to make more videos to make more money. For 47K. I actually like watching his comments and videos. In addition, it is a good documentary about the future of the grid.
