It's still mind boggling to me that V66 didn't stay on the air longer than it did. It was awesome. Just awesome. I didn't have cable during the time V66 was on the air-so this was the way I saw all of the major music videos that everyone was talking about at the time. It was just awesome. I mean look at how it's still talked about to this day-and it's been off the air since 1986 and was only on the air for a Year and a Half in total. Amazing. Miss you V66!!
"THE V" ! V-66 was pretty freaking cool at the time. I was from Ashland, right next door to Framingham/ Natick area where the station was located. In 1985 a friend of mine and myself went to the station and entered the building. We took the elevator to the station floor and literally walked around the station for 20 minutes until Ian O'malley caught us and kicked us out. True story.
What many folks didn't realize that that V66 played not just album rock but urban contemporary as well - two different formats mixed together on ONE station. Try doing that today
I wrote a story for mTV they read it and turned my idea into a game show i moved back to Miami. My show? The real world. The Boston scene really didn' help me in the 80s i did party with v-66 after they went off the air.
V66 definitely made a mark on my junior high years and I guess, to a noticeable extent, my life. Just watched the doc on Amazon Prime. So well done, it's surprisingly more than just nostalgia. It's a historic document.
Wonder why MTV had no real competition? I know Chicago had a UHF show that played music videos and that NBC show that replaced SCTV but there was nothing full time.
3:39 _"Everybody watched V66, but we couldn't turn that gigantic audience into advertising revenue..."_ And this was the warning sign for MTV, which happened to them 10 years later.
A new music station would be interesting to see. MTV figured out even in the mid 80s, that they could make their own shows and get the same viewership for a lot less money than it took playing music videos. Last I saw, they play music videos for two hours in the early morning.

I live in Hudson now and know where that antenna is. Loved the 80's and V-66.

Well I'm hoping I was at least polite about it. Haha. Great story Keith and I think I might actually remember this!
I miss V66 Boston what a time
I remember seeing lots of U2 videos. It was a blast to watch after school.

@RedSoxsfan4life09 Perry Stone is now based in NC. We interviewed him for our V66 doc! Watch for it in 2011!
Is the full version available somewhere online? Such a good portrait of the Boston music scene in the 80s. Loved the station!
That's what I was wondering too, where is it?

@sjsmith1974 Do you mean the edgier videos they played? Overnight VJ Anne Saxon?

I Wish V66 Was ReBorn.
This is the daytime stuff. Does anyone remember the weird stuff they played late ate night?
Bring it back! MTV is dead!

What Mike said
i remember this station..big deal back then
V66 !
No different from MTV, they couldn't survive with just music videos.
