About 35 years ago. I taped the All Ireland Hurling and Gaelic Football Championships. The videos that I taped pail in comparison. These games are on RUclips and I get them on my phone and sync it to my television. Watching from California.
Couple questions 1 when does the hurling season actually start & end ? How many games do they play per week (one of the things I hate about American nfl style football is that 1 game a week bs honestly if nhl hockey players can play 3-4 games a week other sports can play at least 2 ) and lastly I dealt of different coloured helmets does this have any significance at all or is it just player preference cuz some more uniformity would look alot better if ya ask me lol. But this sport is awesome so happy to find it love Gaelic football as well
The championship starts in may, ends in august. There is also a secondary competition called the league which takes places during February and March. Tipperary played a total of 8 games to win the championship last year. The players are all amateur, with day jobs, so there's not that many games. Some teams were eliminated after 4 games. It's quite useful that they're different, when you're in the stadium it's a lot easier to know which player is on the ball.
@@monacogaa6097 thanks buddy. Appreciate the info . I'm guessing that the Gaelic football structure is similar ? I love that these guys have the discipline to be top level athletes and still work a regular job. I'd love to see both hurling and Gaelic football gain some traction and one day maybe have these guys be full time players that are paid a living salary (not to the level of soccer or nfl football though that would risk turning them into spoiled false sense of entitlement babies ya know like how our USA NFL football and NBA basketball kneeling pc no class bitches lol ) still having integrity but able to play the game as their job . @@MagickArmory Yeah the football plays an equivalent tournament at the same time of year as hurling. The structure of the football championship is a little bit different to hurling, and is a hot topic at the moment (as it's a pretty poor structure). Yeah professionalism gets raised as a topic every so often. The demands on the players are massive with the fitness levels required today. Look up some games from the 90s and you'll see a world of difference in S&C between then and now. I'm not sure how sustainable the amateur format will be. Very few players are playing into the thirties these days for example. One good thing about being amateur though is that it frees up money for the development of the game. Drive through any town/village in rural Ireland, and chances are the best sporting facilities there will be for hurling/football.
Magick Monaco GAA has explained it very well,except they are few other aspects to consider.County players don't just play for one team they also play for the local club and sometimes college team and often they play dual which is both hurling and gaelic football for their club and for the county though that is increasingly becoming very rare.
