I recently graduated high school, and a teacher like this was my mentor. We keep in touch and I look up to him to this day. He loves his job, and I shudder to think of any of this happening there and forcing him to resign. Take back our schools!

That’s a great point actually. These ideas and implementations appear to be textbook racism. Although the Harvard vs Asian discrimination case is not looking like it will succeed, a few strong precedent setting rulings would be the most impactful move to start pulling out the most egregious examples of this crap from the schools, hiring practices and government contract awards.
As the parent of a student who graduated from D-E in 2012, I would like to see an independent investigation into the activities described in this letter. If true, they portray a school that has undergone a radical transformation over the past ten years.

This teacher should order 100 copies of The True Believer by Eric Hoffer and hand them out to students as they leave school. I read it at 17 and it changed my life for the better. Every teenager should read The True Believer. Every adult, too.

She does describe (with bias) what sounds like diversity training for staff that is given to teachers and also employees in most professions. This training asks EVERYONE of every race to examine their biases when dealing with others. In schools, this training is given to teachers and not to students. It does not single out white people as she claimed. It is also not CRT as she claimed. As an educator, she is aware of the difference between CRT (critical race theory), culturally responsive teaching, and diversity training. Yet she tries to present a diversity exercise as CRT. She is intentionally misleading and outright lying. I have worked with children for 30 years. The only response I have ever seen from students when they learned about injustices such as the Trail of Tears or slavery was total shock that humans could treat each other so badly and compassion.
So, this teacher is lobbying her complaints utilizing the exact arguments in which Critical Race Theory (CRT) is making about power dynamics, hierarchies, and racism in the opposite direction. As children are recognizing power dynamics and hierarchies "even in text that don't have any", they are seeing the world with fresh eyes. Those power dynamics and hierarchies exist everywhere in this nation. This teacher is stuck in an old paradigm. It’s a good things she is leaving education. CRT is not perfect and many of those teaching it have a perspective bent on tearing down instead of healing. However, to continue living in a world where the cloak-of-whiteness continues to go unrecognized as the false ethnicity and dominate power dynamic in this country is maddness. If we are going to survive as a nation, it will be through the evolution of this nation away from the foundational racism that created it.
