- In this episode of Handcrafted, welder fabricator Patrick Banks reinforces the lower control arms, or wishbones, of a 1963 Chevy Impala. Patrick is best known for his custom bike frames and has gained cult status in the BMX world, but it’s his love of lowriders that inspired him to take those skills and build his dream car. The wishbone is an integral part of the suspension system and needs to be extremely strong to deal with some serious bounce...

Pat is the man! This guy is a local legend and long term friend of mine. Super humble and will always be there to help you out. Much love Patty B!
When I’m a millionaire I’m requesting his services to fullfill the dream
Love low riders. It's amazing how much effort goes into it
The living legend who I have the privilege to call my friend. His attention to detail is top notch. Love working with him, he knows how to graft. I tip my welding hat to you pat 👨🏭
Anyone have contact info for pat? Social links?
He has such a soft and non threatening voice for a man with such a gangsta car.
Just waiting to see how many people say "that's a '64" without actually watching the video and seeing that he is working on a '63 but the '64 is already done so they are showing it. LOL
The quality of this guys work is absolutely too notch.
He also builds custom bicycle frames, of which I have two.
Plus, he’s a great bloke too.
Where is he located? And how do I get in contact with him?
That circle cut with the plasma cutter was very satisfying! Lowriders are ace
very cool! I didn't realize how important those wishbones were. I'm going to have to do something similar to my car for an air ride suspension.
ideally you would go tubular for what you're doing, but you definitely don't need to do what he's doing. Hydros are way more violent than air ride
Absolutely loved watching Pat work on my 63 Impala. Such quality work
This guy is currently fabricating a metal trolley for me to take my son to Glastonbury in
That black 63 Imapala is perfect. One in the darkest "mixing black" my painter called it. It was the pure black base used to make black but without any added pigment. He painted several vehicles for me and used "mixing black" when the cars paint scheme called for black. An Impala painted with that, with all stock and refurbished chrome and bright work, bagged instead of hydro, on some all chrome wire wheels with white walls, a 100% stock but restored interior, Vintage Air AC and hidden Retro Sounds stereo, sound deadening and heat insulation throughout the interior, a fuel injected 383-434ci SBC with 425-450hp or so with a mild cam ground for strong low end and midrange, OD automatic transmission, 2.73 or 3.23 rear gears since the tires overall diameter is so small. Just an extremely clean stock looking inside and out Impala on bags so it would lay out but ride really good. A hopped up motor but dressed to look stock. It is certainly one of the cars on my 15' long lost of cars I wish I could own, build, restore, and enjoy. I obviously think this is a gorgeous car man, great work.
The black car isn't a 63 impala
@@portugeseking7959 The one under the carport off the frame that he is working on is a 63.
Seeing that chassis is insane, everything reinforced and hand built! Thought only the corners were worked on
Just love it ..... Your low rider is awesome
Some of these comments are out there. So what if this guy lives in the UK? He's doing something he likes and by the looks of it, is a talented fabricator. Since when does the car that you build and pour your soul and hard earned cash into need of anyones approval. Some people have really forgotten what car culture is about. Beautiful car and amazing work. Keep at it brother and let the haters hate ✌
Please do more videos on old cars 💖💖
This is amazing! Our culture has no boarders! Thank you Sir!
😂 wait exactly what culture you talking about., lowriders are and will always be CHICANO culture
Sick ride. Shout out from West coast, SoCal Homie.
Mad skills!!
My dream car
Love the content, but that is just the control arms, not wishbone. The wishbone is mounted on the rear of the frame to the rear end
Beautiful car!
Wow, I did not know this needs to be done by hand!
Beautiful car
we need to bring this dude to echo park LA and have him play with the originals
I respect this video and I don't even like lowriders. Good job topgear
I'm not a fan of these cars, but the craftsmanship this guy does is awesome! Great work! Just wish the narration provided more technical details, like materials, technique used, how many parts to modify... in the video he says "I'm welding", duh! We can see he is welding... "I'm cuting a template"... we can see that... anyway, great series of videos.
"crusing down the street in ma 6 4"
Why so small video?
"THIS IS A 1964!!!!" IMPALA BUDDY🤔
Long live working on cars, but in a spin-off channel.
You should be using a mask/respirator while fabricating
looks like he was for a majority of the video. only a couple times without a mask
You talking about a 1963 impala, but that's a 1964 impala
He is working on a '63: ruclips.net/video/WVxr_UWijbQ/видео.html
Do I rlly have to reinforce the frame just to go up and down? For a 63 impala
If you’re just going up and down, then no. Once you start wanting to hop it or three wheel…then you’ll want to reinforce the frame and suspension components
The hoonigan format huh?
That is not a 63 btw...it's a 64....
Suggest you watch again. Pay attention to the beginning.
Amazing craftsmanship
Reminds me of GTA
Why do you call the A ARMS wishbones? On a 63 the only wishbone is in the rear of X-frame replacing the panhard bar and banana bar
That’s exactly what I was thinking about this whole video. I always knew that the wishbone or Y-bone and the control arms are two completely different things
wow
Those fingernails though.
63 not a 64?
It’s just not the same without May Hammond and James
👍
Badass car but that's a 64 bro
This is a six 4 I've owned one for over 10 years 😂😂😂 nice car but 63 has pointed ends in front and the back 🤦🏽♂️
That's a 64 isn't it.
Low rider Jumping Up and Down Same effect from driving into a Shit load of Potholes

So Top Gear became a channel for middle aged men thinking they live in LA….. How sad.
llame comment. 'mazin car
its a car channel and they decided to show someone that worked on a car they love how dare they? I like that they are doing more stuff then just saying "this $1m car handles really well" and then drifting around corners at high speeds or silly planned pranks
nothing wrong with them also doing the other stuff still but whats wrong with them doing more of this new stuff? dont think it will hurt the budget much at all
Those are A-Arms upper and lower . The wish bone would hook to the rear end, they called A-Arms because they shaped like an A..
Nice ride but no big hydraulic jumps in this video
chippin
Lowriders are the best
