    Great video! Regarding Hyundai, I purchased a Sonata PHEV from Hyundai January 2016. It would go 25 miles in EV. I found that in a 6 month period 90% of the miles were in EV mode. That meant in a 6 month period the gas engine was being used for less than a 1000 miles. Dealership was emphatic that I was required to have them change oil every 6 months or warranty would be void.
    On one hand I really loved the Sonata PHEV. Problem was it had breakdown after breakdown. By Oct 2021 it was at dealership with a bad traction battery. It was covered under warranty but it would be many months before battery would arrive. I went ahead and bought a Model 3 Feb 2022. I ended up filing a lemon claim with Hyundai. By July 2022, they bought it back.
    While having a PHEV was great, I don’t think I would ever get another one. EVs require so little maintenance and the power and handling is great.

    I drive an August 2023 build Model 3 Long Range. I live in a regional NSW/Vic border city so range is important and the Model 3 suited what I wanted. I test drove several EV’s before deciding on my Tesla. Budget mattered, but so did the maturity of EV platform and quality of build. The newer Shanghai built cars are very well built. I’d ordered a Volvo XC40 recharge but decided I really wanted an EV that didn’t have an ICE background. I’m hooked on my Tesla, for me it’s the perfect car. Thanks for the multi car review, fascinating, and I think your review accurately reflected the differences between these cars. I agree that Tesla remains ahead of the others in many important elements of driving, software and performance. I have to say I’m happy, impressed, and confident in the performance and comfort of my dual motor Tesla, and I love the regen braking.

    When I was test driving for my MY, the second test drive they didn't have a RWD available so they gave me a performance to test in chill mode. I drove for a bit in chill mode and then gave it a go on performance and oh my, I have never felt that kind of instant feedback, talk about being thrown back in your seat. Unfortunately, I just couldn't justify the extra $20k for something i really wouldn't need to use, as you said, it's a bit of a party trick. I'm still learning a lot about my MY only having it for about 3 weeks and I did sort out the door not opening on sentry mode and thanks for the offer to help. I'm glad you did the test drives, I was wondering whether to look at others but you have made me realise I made the right choice. I'd be curious to see you test drive a BYD if you get the opportunity as that was one I was looking at, I never did test drive one though.

    Great video Ryan. One of the things I noticed when I test drove a model Y in Brisbane was, no pushy sales pitch. I walked in and freely looked at all the models in the showroom. As soon as I approached a salesperson, I had their full attention. They were really knowledgeable about all models and could answer every question I had, no matter how silly. My first question was, how do I open the door. Pretty silly hey. Maybe it’s the fact that the cars just sell themselves but I still appreciate not being pushed into something. There wasn’t any time limitation on the test drive either. He said so long as you’re back before we close. 😁
    I loved everything about the model 3 except for the low roof when an adult in the back seat gets out. You have to be consciously thinking not to bump your head. I ended up test driving the Y only and the only thing I could fault was the turning circle. I wonder if the juniper model suspension changes would improve this? It had plenty of room, storage space and good head clearance, even in the back seat. I, like so many other people, can’t wait for the release of the updated Model Y. Hopefully there will be similar price reductions, like we saw at the start of this financial year. The Tesla just seems to be the leader, especially if a lot of your trips are long ones. Other cars will eventually have access to the Tesla superchargers but I’m sure it will cost more per kw/h?
    Cheers, Peter.

    The BYD settings pages do suck, but their software is better than any others IMO, merely because you can install any android application (albeit via sideloading). I've got google maps and spotify both are the full Android tablet versions and they are hands down the best ways to experience maps and audio. The screen is very responsive as well and pretty big.
    If you're writing off the BYDs because of their software I think that's a mistake. The BYD Atto 3 is cheap but it's main limitations are around the frunk ($350 to install an aftermarket one), weird interior (although build quality is actually alright), slower charging, parking sensors suck and only ~400km range. Also i'm sure the cruise control on the Tesla is probably much better but BYD is very good compared to other brands IMO. No car is perfect and the tesla has its own limitations around no front screen, no sunroof, no V2L charging. I think for the price, the BYD is exceptionally good value.
    Side note I drove the Polestar 2 base model today and I think that car has way more missing while being 12k more expensive than the Atto 3. No sunroof or skyroof, no front camera (??), no lane centering, buttons that do nothing (cruise control closer + further away buttons exist but are disabled), tunnel in the back seats. Another big one is that the cruise control downhill doesn't keep you at the speed limit you just keep going faster, dafuq?? For a "premium" car some of these limitations are baffling to me and make a legitimate difference to the driving experience.

    • @thegeekdeveloper
      @thegeekdeveloper 10 месяцев назад +1

      After testing several EVs over the past year I do not get why people still say Tesla is "miles ahead". When people say that, is it comparing to other vehicles in the same price range or with every other EV? I mean, Tesla are still king at efficiency, and for the prices of the Model 3 and Y, yes they are pretty good, but you have VW ID.4 and ID.5, KIA EV6, Nissan Arya, Skoda Enyaq, and all these look better and have way better build and material quality. In terms of tech they are not "miles ahead" anymore, all EVs have the same tech nowadays, and of course if you go in the premium sector pretty much any other EV is a better deal than the model S and X.
      Not hating on Tesla, they are pretty good and fun to drive, but in my opinion they no longer miles ahead of the competition.

    The one thing with being an EV owner and test driving other EVs is there will always be a bias towards what you know. The thing for everyone to remember is that what suits, or doesn't suit one person, won't be the same as someone else. As an EV owner (I have a '22 Polestar 2) I chose the car for the very reason that it is an easy transition from an ICE for someone who isn't interested in heaps of tech, reliability on the infotainment for every function in the car etc. However, when people ask me about the car, I always tell them the issues such as the rear seating setup if they have 3 kids etc as it is small in the back. I have no issues with the centre console myself, but larger people do. A good review, but I guess not one for people to base buying a car on.

    100% agree with the dealership experience being a big negative. Our Model Y is the 7th brand new vehicle I've owned so I have a lot of experience with new vehicle salesmen. Dealing with Tesla showroom reps have been an absolute pleasure in comparison. Even when I test drove an Atto3 for my father in law, I've had negative experiences with the rep there. From build quality to materials to options like heads up display and everything else the BMW is light years ahead. Tesla gets 280 miles on a full charge of range on its best day when it says 320 while the Ix 50 consistently gets 360 on a full charge when it says it will get 318. Tesla better step it up if they want to stay at the top because once the superchargers open up in the US to other cars Tesla loses their one big advantage they have.

Ioniq 5 is quieter and smoother than Tesla, with some other more luxury features. Highland bridges the gap with ventilated seats and interior mod lighting, but still no leather, rear window shades, heads up display. owned a model 3 and model y, but happy with our Ioniq 5 and the styling of the Ioniq 5 is so much more unique. A highland updated model Y would perhaps draw me back though. The 800v architecture in the EGMP platform from Hyundai and Kia is arguably better than tesla’s too! They are the only thing better than Tesla in tech The lane assist, rear traffic alert when reversing or opening a door are fantastic, and the car announces to me school zones and red light / fixed speed cameras. But Tesla's upgrades and overall platform is light years ahead agreed!

      I'd still take a Tesla, but I was VERY impressed with the iX.

      Surely you knew what I meant by that comment? .. I could have taken a media car from Polestar and given you a less-honest review. And, as soon as I walked into the store I got recognised, so I'm not really sure what u want me to say

    15-30 minutes for a test drive is just ludicrous given the amount of money being spent. We’re just so ripped off here compared to the US in buying goods.

      I used to LOVE the Polestar design when it first came to AU, but it's dated very quickly imo.

    Interested in what you think in regards to Tesla RWD vs LR highland? Which would you chose? Im torn, i have only driven the Highland LR.
    Im torn between wanting the acceleration in the LR and wanting the LFP battery😂😂 plus the acceleration upgrade available for the long range.

    • @RyanCowan
      @RyanCowan  10 месяцев назад

      Tough choice !! RWD is better value for money and I praise the LFP packs. But there's also something about the new m3 looking sportier and sleeker, that I feel the quicker LR version suits the car more 😂 If it was me, I'd probably go the LR ... hope that helps !? Sounds like you're keen for that acceleration

      @RyanCowan decided to go LR , that way I can do acceleration boost to 3.7secs haha
