I had this set as a kid. I still have most of it. My son loved it.

I had the Marx Battleground set made in the 60’s. Great toy! I owned it until I joined the Army in 1970 when my Mom gave my toys to the kids next door. Maaan, I’ve regretted that decision for 50 years! I enjoyed my toys when was a kid but I thought I had to be “manly” and give up my toys. I long since learned that being a man meant I could have my toys and still enjoy them! It’s taken me many years to re-acquire similar toys to what I had as a kid plus some that I didn’t have but wanted! Being a man means greater wealth to have the possessions you desire, but never had as a kid.

I’m glad that you still have an appreciation for these sets after all these years and were able to replace your BG set, cool story! Thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed the video.

This is the only complete vintage set I’ve been able to own, very fortunately! I was graciously given it by a family friend this past year in its original box. It’s not complete, only missing the flags and flagpoles, unfortunately, but still very blessed to have been gifted it.

Marx made the best playsets! I had the Battleground, a tinlitho castle with Knights and vikings, Navarone and a small Pacific set with Marines and Japanese! I remember the metal flags.....then I discovered Britains Deetail and added them into the mix! Thanks for sharing!

Awesome!! I was 8 when this set came out and my mother wouldnt buy it because i had a bunch of soldiers already and could NOT convince her these were different and I NEEDED them. Over the years ive gotten parts and pieces. Excellent video but i wish you had held up the vehicles.

Agreed! There was still some magic left in these playsets up until the very end.

@@greatesttoysevermade3693 There are differences between the 1977 and 1978 versions. Smaller box, different photobox pic, etc.

@@anilles2001 Yes, I may do the 1978 version video sometime. It took me a few years to figure out those differences between the two sets, same thing with the 1977 and 1978 Fort Apache sets.

Don't tempt me. I am too poor to be buying a set. But that 88mm Flak 41 toy gun they had in this set probably started me down a 50 year road of studying military history, plus it shot real bullets. Add in all the detailed soldiers, the M3 half-track , the Panther and Pershing models, this is IMO the finest battle set of toys or models ever made😎. Ever the fortifications and accessories were epic.
Of course I am thinking of the original "BattleGround" set which predates this set by 10 years or so , IDK😎. LOL
