【Sanyuan Palace (Guangzhou)】
Sanyuan Palace (三元宮) is located at the southern foot of Yuexiu Mountain (越秀山) in Yuexiu (越秀) District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. The original site was a place of practice for Lady Bao (鮑姑), the daughter of Bao Liang (鮑靚), and the wife of Ge Hong (葛洪), named Yuegang House (越崗院). It was rebuilt during the Wanli (萬曆) period of the Ming Dynasty and renamed Sanyuan Palace, dedicated to the Three Emperors of Sanyuan. In the early Qing Dynasty, Quanzhen tradition was introduced to Guangdong, and Sanyuan Palace in the provincial capital became one of the important Quanzhen Taoist temples in Guangdong.
【Feeding and Refining Ghost(s) / Xiantian Hushi Jikian Youke 先天斛食濟煉幽科】
The current " Xiantian Hushi Jikian Youke " can be traced back to the "Jìliàn Quánkē (濟煉全科)" printed by Sanyuan Palace, Guangzhou in 1862. "Jìliàn 濟煉" is the core part of the ritual for the salvation of the deceased. the high priest relies on divine grace to guide the souls to the altar to hear the classics and teachings, offering food to satisfy the hungry ghost(s) and using miraculous water and fire to refine them, allowing them to be reborn and ascend to heaven.
