- Scottie Scheffler ended Thursday within striking distance of the lead in hopes of winning the first PGA Championship of his career, but Friday got off to a rough start.
Scheffler was arrested and charged after he allegedly failed to follow police orders as he was about to enter Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky, for the second round of the tournament.
ESPN reported that Scheffler drove past a police officer in his SUV with markings on the door indicating it was a PGA Championship vehicle. The officer screamed at him to stop and then attached himself to the car until Scheffler stopped his vehicle about 10 yards later. ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington characterized it as a "misunderstanding with traffic flow" as authorities were investigating a traffic fatality earlier in the morning.
"Scheffler was then walked over to the police car, placed in the back, in handcuffs, very stunned about what was happening, looked toward me as he was in those handcuffs and said, ‘Please help me,’" Darlington said on ESPN’s "SportsCenter." "He very clearly did not know what was happening in the situation. It moved very quickly, very rapidly, very aggressively."
Darlington posted a video of the incident on his X account.
"Right now, he’s going to jail," one officer at the scene told Darlington. "He’s going to jail and there ain’t nothing you can do about it."
Scheffler was booked into the Louisville Department of Corrections later Friday. He was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer (a felony), criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic.
He was later released. He's expected to make his 10:08 a.m. ET tee time.
Scheffler was coming off of four victories in the last five tournaments, including a second Masters title. He was home in Dallas the last three weeks waiting for the birth of his first child, which occurred on May 8.
Xander Schauffele had the lead after the first round. He was 9-under par. Sahith Theegala, Tony Finau and Mark Hubbard were tied for second place at 6-under par.
Scheffler, the No.1 golfer in the world, was tied for 12th at 4-under par.

@@rp28 Well written. Thank you.

“Louisville Metro Police Department arrest report released Friday said Det. Bryan Gillis was dragged to the ground and suffered "pain, swelling and abrasions" to his left wrist and knee after Scheffler's SUV accelerated.
Gillis was transported to a hospital by emergency medical personnel for evaluation. The report said his uniform pants were also damaged beyond repair.
Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. The assault charge is a felony; the others are misdemeanors.”
@@GemRippers I saw people say he probably asked for the jumpsuit because he doesn’t want any sponsors in his mugshot which makes sense
Not at all. It would happen to anyone who drives though a police barrier
100% bet. The cops send over 40 cop cars to Fatal RTA causing havoc, blocking the road and preventing Medical Emergency Vehicles from accessing the site. Cops threaten several press people with arrest. Then cops totally mismanage traffic flow. The only Assault that happened was when a BESERKER COP went PSYCHO MANIAC on the Golfer unlawfully entering his car, trying to drag the golfer out of his car even though he had his seat belt on. The cop has then made FALSE ALLEGATIONS and POLICE REPORTS to attempt to justify his PSYCHOTIC EPISODE.

Unlawfully executes search warrants without knocking and announcing;
Unlawfully stops, searches, detains, and arrests people during street enforcement activities, including traffic and pedestrian stops;

Scottie is one of the nicest guys on tour, this will not go over well. He likely thought the baracades were traffic controls as allllllll tour stops have baracaded areas for traffic control and parking purposes. Players always have passes that allow them to drive around most if not all baracaded areas so they can get to the course as quickly and easily as possible. Seeing how wet the road conditions were I can see why he may not have realized it was more than traffic control. It sounds like the police officer may have overreacted but only Scottie, his lawyer and the officer will really know what happened. Oh and the entire police department and the entire PGA and their lawyers too.
