Nas and AZ, artistically and lyrically on par....Real heads know that....Nas just had better marketing...And many like Steve Stoute believed every song AZ puts out " sounds" like another Sugar Hill song ...
I always preferred AZs bars when him and Nas made songs together, it's just a shame that Az never had the right producers or he would have been even more of a legend. I remember doe or die 2 was meant to have come out years ago and if I'm not correct there was supposed to have been a song or two produced by Kanye but there was some politics that prevented that from happening 🤷🏾♂️
He still one of the all time greats in my eyes and is on par with Nas

AZ ain’t wrong though. The people who buy music probably don’t even know AZ. His demographic is people who are probably grandfathers now. They rarely buy music. Rap is a young mans game. It’s not like rock where you can get old and people will still support you. These guys need to follow the Hov handbook and become executives.
@@traderhines76Jadakiss still does shows and people support. In fact he was apart of 2 big versuz events. The cargo shorts he wore sold out. The hat sold out. He’s around the same age as AZ. And Lox dropped during his era. Same for André 3000, outkast is AZ era. Big Boi still dropping albums and doing shows with Sleepy Brown. What’s with the idea people of these guys demographic don’t buy music/support? People were tight at Dre 3000 dropping an album that wasn’t rap. And had he dropped it? People would have purchased it. And most importantly where the money comes from (not album sales) folks would’ve went to the SHOWS. Just like they go to Jadakiss and Big Boi.
The demand for an AZ/Nas album is there. It’s always been there. And with an album comes shows. And with shows come people who will be there to support. Because not only do you get new music from them you’ll get them performing old songs as well. Which neither has done together for years. The money is with the shows/tours. Which is what rock groups do.

4:29 Esso brought up a great point and addressed AZ’s skepticism on the business impact of it. AZ & Esso are more concerned on if it would make sense to do from that perspective, not just making songs for fun or fanfare as Hynaken said.
I think most fans don’t understand or care about that. These artists have more responsibilities than just recording, so everything has to count. I dig it.

AZ needs to understand that Nas and AZ fans are still alive today and would definitely support a joint project. They can also afford to go to a show now whereas they might not have been able to 25 years ago. I'm not sure how much support they would get from the new generation but i don't think that would even matter tbh. Look at how successful the Nas and Wu-Tang tours were.
