Cool kit and review Rula! I like the U-Boat but my favorites definitely are the minifigs! It is incredible how BKM captured the actual likeness of the actors in the movie "Das Boot". I'm not a submarine expert, but as far as I know it was a big problem that before the war the German Kriegsmarine focused on the high seas fleet and ships like the Bismarck or the Tirpitz were preferred to be built. However, at no time could it be assumed that the German Navy would ever be able to compete in an open sea battle against England. So it happened that after the outbreak of World War II, there were far too few submarines available and so the short window of opportunity in which they could be effectively used against Allied warships and transporters. Until submarine production got going properly, the countermeasures were so efficient both in tactics (e.g. effective escort) and in technology (sonar, depth charges, etc.) that the submarines went from hunters to being hunted.. In my opinion, If Germany had a realistic assessment of naval warfare in the years before the war and had equipped itself accordingly with submarines, then England might have caved in in 1940-41.
Yes I 💯 what you have said. I feel like in many areas germans in ww2 were really innovative and pushed the envelope and submarines warfare was definitely one of their strong points. I think germany from the beginning of the times did not really want to compete with British fleet directly face to face at seas and always approached different tactics to defeat focusing more either on land and air. However, this where i agree with you that german submarines really had a great potential to inflict a lot of damage to the allies as they did in WW1 at seas, but at the end of the day advancements in countermeasures / tech would still kick in. However, this could be a good what if scenario to ponder about 😄 … and would this be enough to defeat Britain at sea and if so lets not forget Luftwaffe lost the battle of Britain and there is the US, okay so that is the rabbit hole I dont want to get myself into haha And minifigs do look terrific, reading on how dangerous crew job was is mind blowing with low survival rate. But they did it for their country
@@Rula2020 Germany in WW2 was in a race against time. The longer Britain held strong, the more time everybody had to catch up with the German advantage when it came to tactics and combined warfare and of course production capacity. Of course, the USA would probably had entered the war eventually but in the End Germany declared war to the USA in Dezember of 1941. So so matter what, Germany had the chance to kick Britain out of the war until late 1941 and in my opinion there was the possibility to do so. In my opinion in 1940 and 1941 Germany should have attacked Malta after Crete, kept the Blitz to military and industrial facilities, get Spain on their side or at least get their permission to take Gibraltar using Spain as a base. And of course before the war build up the U-Boat fleet and not surface ships. If followed properly, there would have been a good chance to kick Britain out of the war by the end of 1941. I mean the debacle at Dunkirk didn't help the Germans neither... maybe not let the Panzers wait until the Tommys are gone. ;)
