I does not give him the right to amend the sentence and that is exactly what he did here, it is nto only the "Kalau Denda Belum di- Bayar" and notice the words of Shafee it is what he "believes". As a muslim,where is his conscience? Is it ok to go to any ridiculous lengths to make the guilty look innocent..? Anyways, Mr Manjeet Singh , Sir , you make the honest Malaysians stand tall! As long as humans make the decision it is fallible. Thus it should be challenged and should be reversible. Humans are prone to biasness. Every human have blindspots.
      The rules governing the Pardons Board should be amended. What do they mean "not required to give any explanation". Where do their positions, salaries or allowances come from? Who do they represent? themselves? No! Govt entities represent the rakyat and the laws of the land. And whoever sits in them have to answer for their decisions.
      If the highest court in the land have to sit down and give a few hundred pages of judgement, every decision making board has to do the same. And IF they CANNOT or WILL NOT come up with that decision making process, they should not be allowed to make such decisions. Cuz they HAVE JUST DISQUALIFIED THEMSELVES.

      Najib’s situation will affect UMNO’s support for current coalition government under PM Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar has to thread a fine line: full pardon risks losing PH partners while full punishment lose BN support because after Najib, it will be other UMNO leaders. Imagine if current coalition collapses then there is a real risk BN will form a coalition government with PAS. DAP will be the largest party but in Opposition just like after the collapse of PH government.
      So people like you really got to put your emotions aside and think about the consequences. You won’t like what I just said & cry ‘injustice!’ but the consequences are real with lasting impact. To me, it is a small price to pay for a better future.

    As a common man, I believe an appeal for pardon simply means admission of guilt. I mean, why say sorry if you haven't done something wrong? If that is so, then the wrong must be punished. So why pardon someone who admitted his guilt? I've also heard that good behaviour can earn someone some remission from the sentence, but a remission of 72 months for a just being in prision for 17 months doesn't seem right? Was there any remorse shown by Najib to even consider a remission? If the sentence was reduced by 50%, why was the fine reduced by almost 76%? That's like walking into a shopping mall and they pay you to walk away with their goods. To put it Mr Manjit Singh's words, it's AMAZING!

    • @jfj7452
      @jfj7452 3 месяца назад +10

      Absolutely well said.
      By right, a pardon warrants a state of contrition, remorse, admission of guilt & return of the ill-gotten gains. Najib distinctively has none of the above. Both Shafee & him hv all along stressed on innocence. Arrogantly demanding instant freedom.

      Do you know who chairs the Pardons Board?
      And he is not obliged to listen to the advice of the board members.
      You are a Malaysian but I see you are not even aware of what Shafee had revealed to the whole world recently.
      According to him the Malaysian Pardons Board had recommended that Najib serve out his full sentence.
      He also said your King had wanted to grant a full pardon.

      @@ChrisG-om9uyTruly well said. Anwar's pardon was just months away from his release date. On the contrary, Najib was 'sent to jail' in 2023 but demanded the pardon in 2024.
      Shafee was harping on Mokhtar Hashim's pardon but Manjeet knows the finer details.
      Not only that pardon doesn't automatically equalise to one for Najib, the main point is that the Culture, Youth & Sports Minister's death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in 1983. Royal pardon in 1991. He spent 8 yrs in a real cell.
      Therefore, Manjeet spoke on behalf of the rakyat with that heartfelt statement "I believe very strongly what has been done in the country is wrong. Najib didn't deserve to get away, he deserves to get what he got!"
      Indeed seriously insulting the intelligence of the rakyat & judiciary.

      @Whatisnottaken 3 месяца назад +3

      It is not a question of whether anybody is above the law.
      To understand how the process works, please read this.
      “While the Pardons Board is required by the Federal Constitution to tender its advice to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong/Ruler/Yang di-Pertua Negeri, case law suggests that the decision is personal to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong/Ruler/Yang di-Pertua Negeri and therefore the advice of the Pardons Board need not necessarily be heeded.”
      Also please find out what the members of the Pardons Board had actually recommended, as publicly revealed by Shafee and who wanted to grant a full pardon.
