How to make bird's nest jewelry

  • EDIT: To get strait to the tutorial skip to 3:00, I spend a bit of time talking about tools and supplies at the beginning, what kids of wire ect. so if you want to skip that bit I don't mind:) This technique is super fun and addictive! You will need craft wire (20-24 gauge) beads and a pair of pliers and wire cutters. These finished "birds nests" can be used on rings, necklaces or earrings. These are great Mother's Day gifts too, you can make a nest with the same number of eggs as she has children. Have fun! Hi Lindsay. I just wanted to write to let you know that I passed this video on to my husband, (I'm the papercrafter and he's the jewelry maker). He watched your video several times and handed me a beautiful pair of earrings with purple beads and silver wire. They were gorgeous. I told him I want them in every color bead/pearl he has in his stash. Thanks Lindsay for your wonderful tutorials. Keep them coming. Linda and Steve.

That's so cute! I've made and sold a few things (before Covid) but most of what I sold was because I wore it out where people could see it. There's a dual purpose for wearing your own jewelry... Quality Testing and Advertising. 😊 Thanks for sharing and for supporting our troops... Girl Scout Troops, that is! 😁

Cute! I have like eight million bird & bird cage stamps. These would look great in place of charms on a project. I don't really wear jewelery, even the expensive stuff I have. I KNOW I helped out the girl scouts this year. Those new mango cookies were pretty yummy, but Thin Mints are always the best. JIL

Hi Pauline. OK here is the scoop, all you need to do is go online and search the name of the store and the word coupon because they all can be printed. Sales run Sunday-Saturday so you might be able to print some before you leave. Usually you can use a coupon each day so you might want to print a few of each and some store take coupons from other stores. Joann will let you use multiple coupons as long as the numbers are different. Joann, Micheals, ACMoore always have 40% off coupons going!

It's up to you but 20-24 gauge wires work very well:) I'd probably go with 24-26 gauge for earrings and a 20 gauge for the pendant and you can make it bigger by adding more wraps as desired:)

Could you use like a clear varnish to help stop the tarnishing of the wire?

    • @thefrugalcrafter

Debbie G that is a good idea! I bet you can. Clear Nail polish would be good because it is safe for the skin and does not contain water that make case rust.

3 in one pliers, it has small round nose pliers and a wire cutter and a flat area to smoosh wire flat. They are not expensive, under $10 and I think mine is beadalon brand:)

thefrugalcrafter . it is in the electrical department or even at a hardware store , you can get electrical wire for just a few cents a foot or even by the yard. I get the wire then take it home and strip it (the plastic coating ) . I have gotten it with more than just one wire in it -- you can find it thick or thin -from just one piece of wire in the wrapping to 3 is the highest I have gone. With a pair of wire strippers it won't take you no time. Most of the time you find some that is off the wheel and they will have it marked down....Good luck and I hope this has helped.
