    Wow Chris was awesome!!! Really loved watching him play. I learned a lot here. Thanks for posting this, OTS!

    Glad you posted this! You'll learn more reviewing and discussing it than you will feel embarrassed by the end result haha. As for earbuds, it depends on the opponent. I know I'm always going to call a foul on myself but I've had lower handicap people that wear earbuds and while I'm yelling at them to let me have a shot watched, they just fire at it anyway. So if I know or trust someone to do the right thing, I'm fine with them wearing them. It should be treated like templates where you have to ask if they want to use them or if you have an opinion.

    • @OnTheSnap
      @OnTheSnap  27 дней назад +2

      Totally agree on the value of reviewing this kind of match.
      I like your approach to earbuds and templates. As much as I would prefer to use templates, I do think there's something romantic about the never-know-what-you're-gonna-get opponent racks when it comes to bar league play. To me, APA just wouldn't be APA without the spitshine and chaos and drama 😅

    • @Poolside_Chat
      @Poolside_Chat 27 дней назад +1

      @@OnTheSnap There's still enough chaos and drama in any amateur pool league. APA allows templates as long as both participants agree to use it. Not sure if that's for high level tournaments but league is fine.
      Great match regardless of outcome. I'd think you were in it more than the score led on but hey, That's Amateur Pool!™

    This was a great test of that mental game you have been working on. Your game still looks great and it's much appreciated that you post the losses. Keep up the great work.

    Every set is a learning moment. You were just on receiving side of a HEAVY lesson. I learned a lot from this video, your thoughts and decisions and the consequences therein.
    That said, I'm excited to set up some of the shots Chris made on my table tomorrow. Really good shooter to watch.
    Love the vids. Keep it up

      @ yea I had league tonight. I have a hard time with mental sometimes I scratch on the 8 and missed an easy 8 and right after my opponent got a 8ball break. I was frustrated but somehow I took it to the hill. It was a 5/4 race I’m a SL5 he was 6 he was a 7 but just demoted. I appreciate your content 👍

    Dude I’m with you.. happened to me about 2 months ago. Playing somone who I’m favored to win.. I got up 2-0 and then lost 7 straight. I was on a 10 game winning streak when that happened. not only did he get the rolls he was running out on top of that. But it definitely had me in my head for a few days. At least yours was against a beast.

    • @OnTheSnap
      @OnTheSnap  26 дней назад

      Ah, that's tough action. Sorry it rolled that way for you, especially after the streak.
      And you're right, no shame in losing to a strong player. We'll get 'em next time.

    I feel your pain. Played a 725 (2nd best in our area) the first round of qualifying. Lost 7-4, def struggled with my mental game, as i knew how good he was. What's funny is i struggled because i got out to an early lead after winning the break and running out the first 2 racks. The game went from who cares to i could actually win this game and i fell apart. Luckily was on 9' tables, so got a few more chances than you did. You had one or two maybe, but also got some very unlucky rolls off his breaks.

    • @OnTheSnap
      @OnTheSnap  28 дней назад +2

      It's amazing how the "who cares" can let us relax enough to play our best pool. Fortunately, I remained really relaxed in this match despite the skill gap. Unfortunately, the mistakes I made were too costly to overcome. Just have to do better next time!
      Totally agree about the 9' vs 7' difference. The rolls and the break are huge, especially in 9-ball on the 7' tables.
      Thanks, as always, Adam!

    I feel the same about earbuds. They help me enough that I consider them a crutch. I don't use them as a result, but I don't really care if an opponent does.

    You break better. but his leaves are on point. I would say he is around a 700 fargo from what I saw.

  • @kriswood1354

    If this was a Masters Match, why did you only play 9-ball?

    • @OnTheSnap
      @OnTheSnap  28 дней назад +3

      Good question! In Masters, the format is a maximum of 5 games of 8-ball and 8 games of 9-ball. If the set starts in 9-ball, and one player reaches the required 7 games, then the match is over. This kind of outcome is rare, but it can happen that someone gets those 7 games and then we never see 8-ball.

  • @marlinfisher11

    Chis was really impressive but I wouldn't worry about it too much. 9 ball is a stupid game anyway. Just take him down in 8 ball next time around

    Nice to watch semi-pros ( any one over 700 fargo) shoot. So you’re a SL7 playing someone that shouldn’t be eligible to play in the APA. There he is and it’s 7/0. No disrespect to your opponent. He’s a great player. It’s the APA that needs to acknowledge the unfairness of the situation. Any SL7 on their very best day is not going to beat a semi pro or pro player in this format.

    • @OnTheSnap
      @OnTheSnap  28 дней назад +1

      I did plenty of watching in this one!
      The APA has some *interesting* rules about how they determine an ineligible player. See here:
      rules.poolplayers.com/general-rules/amateur-players-only/
      Chris is a very strong player, and as I mentioned comes with his share of accolades and accomplishments. I could certainly see a case being made for disqualifying him, depending on the judgment of the LO. Personally, I wouldn't want the case to be made because at this point in my game I need to be playing guys like Chris in order to improve.

    • @AdamMarr
      @AdamMarr 27 дней назад +1

      Its a "loose" definition of pro. We have a 730 in our league who just played in a tournament and beat Aloysis Yapp 9-2 and Johnny Archer 9-4 lol, so, lets just say he's hard to beat in APA league nights 🤣.

  • @kriswood1354

    Earbuds aren't allowed in any major tournament I play in. Too much temptation to cheat that way.

    • @kevinwillen4178
      @kevinwillen4178 28 дней назад +1

      How can you cheat with earbuds?

    • @cosc137
      @cosc137 27 дней назад +1

      @@kevinwillen4178 Does not apply in this case because Chris does not need any coaching, but a lower skilled player can be coached through the ear buds, so many leagues/tournaments do not allow it.

    personally I don't like the use of ear buds. If you are playing a team game such APA or BCA your teammates can't communicate with you. I know that the music can be bad, Match Ups is constantly playing really bad country music, or there is someone with an annoying habit (like the guy whistling after each shot), but part of cues sports is mental. At the same time, there should be some decorum from others around you.
