Bluetooth volume control is a great idea, actually a forward thinking thing in this industry. Functionally being increased for stuff we already have is something that’s almost always overlooked.
I pre-ordered the DAC to use in my den system. I want to use the ARC connection it offers for my Apple TV 4K. I currently use a Topping D50S II there and will be moving that to another room. It’s also important for me to have remote control by using such a DAC as the Fosi Audio since my amp is a vintage mid-1970’s Pioneer SX-850. My music listening in the den system is largely records and CDs, and I also use the WiiM Pro Plus here (using the Wiim’s internal DAC). If the Fosi Audio DAC improves in the Topping or is at least equivalent that will be fine for this system which is for fun, not critical listening.
I think it will be perfect for that type of setup. I'll let you know in a later video which op-amps are worth considering if you decide to upgrade it a little.
It think the Fosi Audio ZD3 should sell for the same price as the Fosi Audio ZA3. I really think $149.99 US is a fair price for this DAC. Not to mention it would really help promote Fosi Audio as referenced by " A good product at a great price. " Keeping in mind that this indeed is a Chi-Fi product. Good luck with warranty issues beyond the date of purchase. Even being under warranty, who are you going to send the product to for warranty? How long will you be without the product? Would it even be worth the shipping charges? These are very important things you do need to be mindful of regardless of track record. Fosi Audio has not been in the audio game but for only a short time. I have to say I do like their products in general. Me, If it is out of warranty, and I can't fix it, or have it fixed locally, and cheaply....trash can (recycle).
These are all good points that apply to a lot of Chinese made equipment unless it's bought through a local retailer. I haven't heard of any issues with Fosi as yet so hopefully reliability isn't a problem...
i have the za3 where i can use the xlr output of the zd3 but i also want to use my SE headphone amp with it. if there is an option for switching the output between xlr and rca, that would be great. simultaneous output to both xlr and rca would work as well. but if xlr takes priority when rca and xlr both are connected, that would be a problem for my case. if anyone knows anything about it please share. Thanks a lot.
Most DACs will run both concurrently (unless they have a switch between XLR and RCA mode). I think the ZD3 runs both all the time, but haven't checked yet.
Was there any update on the "new" or fixed, or something, add-on DAC cards for the Schiit amps where the voltage the ran on was changed? Or maybe I misuderstood what that was about.
Yeah. I think I don't have to buy any more hifi gadget anymore. I have enough gear to listen to music till the end of times. Or maybe twice till the end of the times and back.
Hey man. I really like your channel and have watched on and off for years. Something I've got to point out though. Watching your channel produces a strange kind of cognitive dissonance. The video is always you sitting in an averaged sized room, but the audio always sounds like you're inside the world's smallest vocal booth. It's a very lower vocal, bass heavy and closed in sound. It doesn't match the acoustic space of the surroundings. This happens sometimes when people use lapel mics or when they use boom mics way too close to their mouth. You dint seem to use either. Do you boost the bass on your voice way up? This isn't a troll. I really think the show would come off better if the audio sounded more natural and matched your surroundings. Anyway, keep up the good reviews. Cheers!
Hi Bob, I don't use any bass boosting and my mic is a Blue Encore 300 condenser mic placed about 40cm away. My room doesn't sound good IMO (see some of my older videos from.before I got the right mic placement, etc.) so I do my best to isolate my voice, but this is done by just applying some very low level noise reduction, applying a little compression (which is more for intelligibility during playback) and using a multi and compressor to drop about 1.5dB from the upper midrange band (which is where the room can sound particularly bad).
@PassionforSound I hear you man. IMHO, I would try to let a little more room sound get into the audio capture. It's not an issue when just listening with headphones, but when watching the show, the voice capture feels very artificial and almost anechoic and in your chest/head. I think some less than stellar room reverb would come off better than the foam sound booth sound. Again, just my opinion. Thanks for reading and responding.
Almost all dacAmp which has Bluetooth functionality has those button vol knob noobs...next..Roon..sure run it frm ur 5Gs phones which has multiple codec converter and reader support DONE..slim sumore..ha4 Peace noobs!

I use an FX Audio volume knob. It is wired, so the sound quality is better than Bluetooth.
Fosi did ask for a lot of input from its community for the development which is a good thing

I don't know anything about the Schiit gear. This is all about Fosi Audio products.

I haven't tested it with the ZD3. I don't think it's intended for that though because the ZD3 has remote control already

The VOL20 should be available as a Kickstarter although it might not have been live when I first posted the video. The ZD3, I'm not as sure about.
