Dramatics aside, this is actually really amazing footage. I actually didn't realize sharks had these subtle body languages, the head shaking, the mouth gaping I knew a little bit of, but the parallel swimming, all of that is so neat! AND THAT FIN CAM! WE NEED MORE OF THOSE! That was the coolest thing ever to see from the shark's POV! I want to see a really long video of shark POV into its daily life, hunting, migration, etc.!
I know any shark cage I design for ME to go down in isn't going to have gaps for me to lean halfway out with a camera...
If I can lean OUT, things can come IN.
fablewalls
Glad I'm not the only one thinking that. Insanity! Common sense people.
that's why this is dumb.
I would have metal surrounding me and unbreakable glass so I can see and record maybe a few gaps though
Fozzy Whitaker all you have to do is punch them. They shouldn’t care about you that much
shadowwolf1115 its still TERRIFYING af
Gonna need a better cage. This one ain't finished.
I was thinking this 😂🤣
If shark bites the cage and it’s full of metal, it wouldn’t bother, if it’s stuck inside the cage which is VERY RARE, it will either die or thrash around until it finds a way to escape because great whites don’t usually target human, they have plenty of seals and human don’t usually worth the effort since the seal is just full of fat and protein and human is relatively lean
It’s very rare for a great white to come up to a human. Also I think they know it’s a risk that the shark could come in. But sharks are way bigger than you think it wouldn’t fit probably.
You said a mouthful
Plexiglass boys
Narrator: “She’s worked up” “she’s coming straight to the cage”
Shark: 5 mph
discovery is a disgrace these days, trying their best to demonise the sharks.
@@cwilson7458 It seems like they're actors, but given a script about sharks from real marine biologists.
We made these heavy duty shark cages that sharks cannot break or enter. However we left a nice door opening in case one wants to pop his head in and say hello, maybe have a cup of tea, and a nice little conversation.. lol no way in hell would I get in that thing 😂
I think is in case of emergency if the cage sinks ppl can get out easily
@@arianikolleortemoreno5225 they should have made a window or a door maybe but that opening is to big i think
@Jules Simoneau I get what you mean

Shark literally just chilling and being curious.
Imagine being in that cage and you think the sharks are gonna come at you but instead start biting EACH OTHER 😂
Hello
* me sees POV *
* me instinctively checks to see if I'm in incognito mode *
Every time I see video like this, I feel this overwhelming empathy for their hunger, and the desperation of the fights over potential food in a cage that none of them will get. I feel like the second the bodies hit the water, the electrical pulses and smells are like a dinner bell, and they all come driven by unimaginable hunger. It's... Really sad. True hunger can drive humans insane, so massive carnivores, who are overcrowded, hungry, constantly in competition to survive.. I feel for them.
Cold-blooded animals don't need to eat as often. They actually get obese if they do. It's a serious problem with alligators in a lot of zoos that don't understand this.
It is kind of sad seeing a bunch of sharks working for a meal and only one or two getting it, though.
@@roadhouse6999 Sharks are not like alligators, especially not in zoos, never stop moving the entire time they're alive, they're constantly burning energy, and then hunting costs them extra. Great whites hunt high fat animals like seals because of the calories. It's worth it for them to pursue.
So the expending of energy to catch a dummy seal is a precious resource they don't have anymore to hunt a real one. It's not like they're domed to die because of it but it still sucks.
@@roadhouse6999 Great whites are warm blooded, unlike other sharks.
I really like the content in that its showing me something I didn't know about great whites before, but I really get irritated how they try to pump it up with dramatic music and make it into something terrifying. . . when really this is just a science expedition. . .these guys get in the water with sharks pretty often I would imagine so the dramatics annoy me. Instead of trying to be 'exciting' I would prefer more depth into the education side of this, spend less time on theatrics and spend more of the time teaching me something. Thanks.
THIS is why I came to comments!
(Thanks for saving me the time putting it into these exact words.)
The problem with that is it's boring for people who don't care too much about the subject and those people make up the majority of the views compared to people like yourself who want to view it from an educated view, which I appreciate, but at the end of the day they need money and hyping these vids up is their answer to getting more views. Sad but oh well.
exactly what i was going to comment too. it's cringe-worthy some of the music they add. they're not teaching anyone anything
We're Americans. We can't learn anything without a degree of spectacle.
This has become an unfortunate style of nature documentary film making....it used to be all about showing the animals....Cousteau and all the other great film makers knew that the ANIMALS were the star....in our new reality tv and "everyone's a star" era, that has happened over the past 20 years, there has been less and less of the animals and their behavior shown....and MORE and MORE of the people shown....doing nothing like pointing, looking at their computer, endlessly gabbing etc.
The brilliance of the Cousteaus, Jouberts, Attenboroughs, Taylors and other great naturalist documentary makers and photographers has been replaced by people like the Kratt Brothers, Steve Irwin etc who make it all about THEM and the animals.
And Shark week used to be about education and art, not infotainment and nonsense.
Very sad.

I love sharks.
Shark was like, Hey which one of you gave my kid a piece of tuna on hook with a rope attached to it?
I'm blown away....interesting, the hierarchy of sharks.
The narrator sounds like he is from the film scream “hello Sidney”
Wow. He bit that smaller Great White right in the GILLS! When a bigger guy is biting what you need to use to BREATHE, if that doesn't say, "Get the hell out of my turf!", then I don't know what does!
I’m scared as frick of sharks so someone please explain why I keep watching shark videos
Something along of Lovecraft’s quotes is mans biggest fear is the unknown. And maybe it’s you wanting to understand more about sharks is your brain trying to suppress that fear.
Because ur addicted to wet jeans
@Leah Caroline because they are beautiful majestic creatures that both intimidate and fascinate us equally at the same time. It is fascinating beyond all comprehension the intelligence and beauty of such amazing creature's. They are an inexplicable and endless fascination to us all. Just go with it and feel blessed to be a part of it all...someday they may not be here anymore. We are a blessed generation. Pray they will be with us for generation's to come. God bless to all!
Adrenaline junkie? ;)
@MrTheonlysane1left not at all. In fact if you watch shark week and the news all of the people interviewed weren't angry at the shark. They understood they were in their territory and it's not intentional hateful behavior simply shark being a shark. In fact I have a full color ocean sleeve with a Great White on the top. Yeah I know there is a big difference but I have a very real passion for them. Have dove with them several times.
Just imagine if that was a 360 degree underwater camera, you could not only just see what's directly in front of the shark but also its full surroundings.
Discovery : sharks bullying
Karen to shark : I'm going to call your manager !
To those of you people that are saying "Oh, WhY dO tHeY dRaMaTiZe ThIs So MuCh?!?!!?!?" This ladies and gentlemen, is called "entertainment!" We use it so we don't get bored!
I like how they call it bullying when in reality this is how the food chain works.. the strongest survive the weak die out. Sorry not everyone gets a participation trophy
The way they commented on that shark coming out of nowhere and smashing into the cage - that's exactly the reason why I don't like the ocean! Haha. Unless you have a 360 degree view all around, it's a gamble.
Every 10 foot shark is gangsta towards humans, until a 16+ shark shows up
I'm curious, for the marine biologist patrolling the comments: how much of this can we actually designate as 'typical' shark interpersonal behavior vs shark interpersonal behavior within artificially chummed waters?
I imagine there have to be additional stressors regarding extra external signal of prey availability vs useless viscera floating in the water as bait.
Kind of reminds me how the majority of all breach footage is caught in artificially chummed waters and not a natural environment. Sad (heh).
Don't expect the Media to tell the truth! They need to push their fake Agendas like global warming

They may be amazing and beautifal but theyre dum as fuck if they were smart they wouldnt confuse a surfer for a seal
Every time I go into the water I have sharks in the back of my mind.
@@hugoanimal8273 they dont do that,a sharks method of testing if something is edible is by biting it,therefore 99% they dont need to bite you to realize you arent food
@@thecatthatgoesahh291 what? u just said they test by biting and then said 99% of the time they dont bite
Why does there appear to be sections missing in the cage?
They're camera ports for the larger hi-defy cameras. Although after a couple of unfortunate incidents in Guadalupe with sharks ending up in the cage they, being the dive operators, have decided to redesign them to make them stronger.
This is so fascinating
Because its fake
I would have shat myself having a hole for the camera what if it came in
Those are the bits the sharks ate...
can we clear something up discovery. we dont care about watching a bunch of guys sitting around talking about sharks, or watching their film on a tv. Just show us the footage, this is like 60% filler.
***AMEN***
Like discovery USED to be in the early 90s.
So much better.
Sick of this nonsense, having turned all nature shows in to reality tv vehicles for the hosts.
There was a reason Cousteau and Attenborough were so brilliant....they just filmed and narrated....nothing else except a beginning intro....everything else was about the beautiful photography, and the animals.
I agree with you but they would lose viewers, believe it or not people are just dumb these days (not all) teens are more interested in Rappers, Musicaly or some other dumb ass challenges or Fortnite, very little kids are actually interested in science especially marine biology

Great footage on behavioral patterns, and how they also work together.
Imagine the shark was like “HEY GUYS WELCOME BACK TO SHARK TV SOME PEOPLE GAVE ME SOME GO PROS
Wow..I’ve been studying sharks since I was a little girl and never seen this behavior in them.
Me too!! My Grandpa is the one who got me into sharks every week we would eat popcorn and watch shark week. At 7 years old i first saw JAWS and I wish and didnt wish I would of watched it cuz my love for swimming and water is my most fun and passionate thing to do. But as far as swimming in deep dark big lakes it has put terror and fear in my mind. Just swimming and i know how to swim and seeing the jaws come up or a dorsal fin behind me. Omg. It kind of ruined it for lakes. And when I was at camp canoeing rowing kayaking tubing etc I would freak out and start hitting the water with the oars cuz some punk boy would find itfunny and scream SHARK!! watch out and then id imagine jaws breaching from below capsizing us. Lmao sounds funny but it was total fear I went completely numb. But I guess as I got older I grown more into them. I collect and buy ANYTHING that has sharks on it or has to do with sharks. Over the last 2 years my collection has grown lol
That’s a big opening in the cage at 4:13 😮
damn i need to be a shark biologist. get to stay on a beautiful 70-80ft yacht on the crystal clear waters off the west coast of mexico while scuba diving (from a cage) to take pictures of great white sharks. these guys are literally living the dream.
It's interesting to see the shark behavior
that one bigger shark just went 'nom'
As much as I think sharks are scary asl they are actually really interesting to learn :)
These sharks are so beautiful.... !
I hate how they make sharks seem like evil killing machines, like at the end "And now she's heading straight for the cage"
They are killing machines tho, that’s what they evolved to do, big mass of muscles, razor-sharp teeth and very rudimentary intelligence. They are not good or evil, this is not the Little Mermaid, and are only taking their part in the ecosystem.
Roses are red, violets are blue, I came here for the thumbnail, and so did you.
"and now, she's headed straight for the cage!" Discovery is so cringy with their psuedo drama.
Slow swimming, simple investigation with nose turns into: "HIGH SPEED ATTACK AT SEA"
I feel like your comment builds more drama than the narration meant to.
That shark was straight chillin´.
@@ISkinn00RI the narration built more drama than necessary.
6:24 and 6:29 - so sharks growl?! Okay.
I was watching another documentary that went through the attacks of a few people, one of them who survived had described hearing the Great White growl as it chomped down. I think he was in a kayak. So either they can growl or it was the sound of the materials that made it seem that way, so far as this video goes that may have just been added for effect.
I don't think they growl in the mammalian way. Maybe it's some sort of sonar signal?
Not a growl, so much as teeth scraping the sandpaper skin.
At least it didn't roar like Jaws.
No, sharks can’t produce any kind of sound. They don’t have the organs for it.
Sharks are my favorite creatures
I'd love to see more on this! Are there any published scientific research papers on this? How about the possibility of intimidation behavior between males during breeding?? Please let me know!
wow!! I still feel like the video isn't over yet, am I right? Or is this the way all the videos end? Seriously can nI watch it as a documentary or something??

I am positive that there is so much communication going on between these sharks that humans have not yet identified.
Definitely. If you think about some of the sensory skills that sharks have to find prey, and if we are only concentrating on what we see the sharks doing then we have to be missing out on a lot of information. Consider the sense of smell. If one shark swims through the same water that the other shark has just swum through, then it will pick up information about the other shark like it's sex, is it stressed, is it healthy, is it a potential mate or rival or competitor for food?
the two sharks go back to the cage "hope you enjoyed the show come back tomorrow for more"
When you skip past the people talking to the camera the cool part of the vid ends up being about 45 seconds.
3:07 Listen to the old geezer theres a Disney movie playing in his head where sharks go "this just isn't worth it "
When you see close-up footage of the GW sharks nose, it looks kinda cute!
I couldn’t say the same for the Tiger shark!
They really give me the creeps! Them and probably Bull sharks!
Somehow I feel that it would be a less painful death, being killed by a White! But I feel that being killed by a Tiger would be so painful, as they shake their head and use those zig-zag teeth in a side-to-side, sawing motion!!! Yikes!😰
Magnificent animals. My favourite fish in the ocean.
