Very nice. Your brought up another great idea in you video... Maybe a crash course on lighting? Like 'best practices on lighting techniques for each specific light type"... and focus on spot and ambient and how they behave together (since that seems to be most of what is used)... just a thought... great tutorial... buying that plugin now :)
Another great tut Jason. I think the limitation in the DoF is down to lens selection. In photography even wide open a 25mm lens will have quite a broad depth of field. Maybe shortening the focus distance may yield better results, but with a wide lens you’d always struggle. A shift to 35mm or 50mm may be better, b ut that would also affect the wide mess of the view. Hope that helps somewhat?
I was all happy and satisfied using Helium until... when you use Geolayers combined and you actually move the view on the Controller to follow a path for example, it messes up with the height map and create a sort of flickering of the mountains 😬😬 did anybody experienced this?
Thanks for the overview! Are there 3D service alternatives that do NOT require active subscriptions? I find the prospect of adding yet another subscription to my Adobe package, which is expensive enough as is, rather unappealing.
Any chance you can denote the differences visually between Helium, Mettle FreeForm Pro, and Plexus pertaining to GeoLayers 3? It seems the Mettle plug-in renders a more dramatic 3D elevation compared to Helium. Is this correct? I’m really thinking about getting GeoLayers & a 3D plug-in, but don’t know which one to purchase. Also, any chance you might have an upcoming discount or current deal on your GeoLayers 3 Master Class?
Hey Ashley, I'm not totally clear on the differences between the 3rd party apps, as I've only used Mettle and Helium. They all have additional features that makes them incredibly powerful, as well as entirely different pricing structures. You should download them as free trials to test out. Pretty sure you can do this with almost all of them. And yes, going to run a Black Friday sale on the course.
Hi thanks for this video, I have e little problem... My Terrain effect is missing and I can't recover it anywhere, what can I do? I have MAC M1 Max and the last official AE
Hey Boone, I've made a video similar to this, but when I go to render it out, it says that after effects has run out of memory and can't export the video. I tried playing with the memory settings, but it still hasn't seemed to work. Thanks!

Long Live Lord Boone!
Fingers crossed. :)
Thanks a lot! Played around with those in the past weeks. Perfect time for new knowledge in that field
Glad to hear that!
This is great and I have been having issues with working out the edges of 3d maps- great easy tip on making precomp! Thanks Boone!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!
As always a very useful video.
Good luck and inspiration to you!

Great idea Damian! I just need to get good at lighting first...

Of course! I completely forget to try this. That totally helps. Thank you!
@@BooneLovesVideo at least I can do something to help someone.
Great comment thank you!
Pointing a spot light directly down on it is not a good example to show how the light affects the map but other than that it was a great tutorial.
Great point!

Whoa for real? Open a support ticket on aescripts. It shouldn't be doing that.
Is there a way to add 3d labels or like 3d height scalebars for mountains?
Haven't played with this, so I don't know.

I hear you. As far as I know, Mettle Freeform Pro and Plexus don't have subscriptions.
How does this compare to the Google maps extension (spacing on the name) in Adobe Aero?
Say whaaaaaaaaaa never heard of this tool / workflow.

Is there another way to avoid the embarassing cropping?
hahahaha it's embarassing?
Always you are the best ❤
Thanks!
