It's so easy for us in the West to forget what a long, bloody, rich history the Chinese have. Sometimes glorious, sometimes grimey. This is a unique story with notable people but it also shows how similar we all are. I really wish the century of humilation had gone differently. They probably blame Japan. They should probably put more blame at the feet of chairman mao. Just as the Russian people aren't our enemies, the Chinese are not our enemies. Same as the German people and the Japanese people. nevertheless, I can't view Xi as anything but a dictator, slightly less aggressive than Putin. He can't just let Taiwan go, I get that. He could (and should) step down. Maybe a slightly softer successor could let Taiwan and Hong Kong go and decide their own destinies. I'm sure they think we're hypocrites and maybe we are because if one of these states united decided to succeed from said Union, we'd be forced to stop them. Maybe we should let them go. that would be the beggining of the end of us, but so be it. It'd probably be a state like Montana or Wyoming and they'd find pretty quick that they were getting far more than what they were paying in. Those big cities they love to hate are the reason for the power and wealth they enjoy. I can live without red meat and Montana.
there aee still members of "the red guard" alive today, they're now elderly and protesting their medicaid funds being shorted and the government is scared of them
