I'm so grateful for everyone's comments in supporting this video, and how RUclips has repeatedly flagged this. Backstory, I posted this video originally in June. RUclips age restricted it which was demoralizing because I was really proud of it. I then uploaded an "edited" version. RUclips flagged it again. I edited it another version and and it was restricted again. I did this 12 more times (14 uploads in total) before I outright gave up and deleted the video entirely. Age restricted videos become either hidden or inaccessible. All your research, script writing, editing is seen a fraction of your subscribers, let alone other viewers. I was really soured by RUclips's age restriction this time. I didn't mind as much in past videos, but this was different. I had the chance to really educate people on safety by explaining brain trauma and body posturing. Sometimes the best way to educate is show people real instances of brain trauma and head injuries. This current video is a shell of the original, and I'm really saddened by it. If I could even demonetize it so advertisers wouldnt have to run ads on it, and avoid the age restriction I would. I tried it and it still wasn't spared by RUclips medieval age restriction algorithm. Sorry for the long winded post. I wanted to explain what happened and more importantly thank you all so much for your support. I was and am drained right now, and seeing people comment about their support in my endeavors against RUclips's restriction policy is really heart warming. I love you all and am so happy to have you watch my content. I really just want to teach science, and you all give me the opportunity to do that. Whether this video gets restricted tomorrow or not, I hope you all learned something from it. ~Adam
RUclips is a complete mess. It's such a huge platform owned by one of the richest companies in the world, but they can't seem to fix anything. They won't allow you to post your video, meanwhile the comment section is filled with bots promoting scams and CP, while real comments get auto deleted
Such a shame... I initially found it extremely useful to see videos of victims of traumatic head injuries, learn how to spot telltale signs and act accordingly. Useful, but also terrifying because of how how people are much too cavalier with street brawls and activities, putting their brains at risk of permanent injury.
This video directly helped a young man get appropriate treatment. I'm a rugby referee, and in a game today a player got knocked out, but I didn't see it. What I did see was his hands tightening and arms curling inward. Because I had watched this video the night before, I was able to make sure the player was taken directly to hospital, rather than just looked after at home. So, thank you for your persistence in re-uploading this video. It made a real difference to a real person.
@@phalanges3647 I really didn't. I referee, and without accredited medical personnel, it's my responsibility to make the final decision about the health of the players on the field - especially in a case like this one, where the players were all under 18. This video helped me make a better decision, absolutely. But every referee in the world takes that responsibility very seriously, and calling an ambulance wasn't about heroism, it was about procedure.
of course yes yes and more yes - always go on the side of caution and this video deserves HIGHEST praise - but let's not get too afraid of living or say things like, 'you saved his life' with certainty either - coz u see postures like this all the time and the ppl are fine in less than a couple of minutes - just watch UFC for a few years and you will see plenty of them. I've seen them personally from fights and KO's... There's degrees and this video is VERY DRAMTIC, highlighting SEVERE cases of both very unlucky or car-crash speeds (btw, that includes a weapon like baseball bat)... While the brain can be considered 'fragile' - it is ALSO VERY RESILIENT and PLASTIC! (meaning that even where one area may be damaged, it can rewire itself to compensate!) I just say this that ppl don't go away from this video, terrifying to live, do sports, drive etc and believe that the slightest knock will make you permanently injured... That is just not true! Our skull protects our brain. Nature made it that way... P.s. Build up your neck muscles! 😉 Peace, Love and Mung beans!
@@OldManPaxusYT I agree, and I fully expect that player to be back next season (it was the final game of this year). I probably made it sound more dramatic than necessary - no one was arguing with me about calling an ambulance. But I am genuinely thankful that I had better information than I would have otherwise, thanks to this video. Because it was obviously more serious than the typical concussion, whether that's because of the severity of the knock or because he's had previous concussions, I don't know.
This video could be life-saving information when someone gets a serious brain injury and I was surprised that RUclips took it down. I was trying to study this earlier.

As informative as this video is, there is some misinformation here. Enough so that it becomes understandable if the video has to be taken down or reuploaded again. What Tua Tugovailoa suffered from was not decorticate posturing, but rather something known as the fencing response. There are a couple reasons why we know this to be the case. The fact he falls onto his back, and the way in which his fingers lock is a tale tale sign of the fencing response, but not something seen in decorticate posturing(like the video discussed, the wrists and fingers should curl inward towards the chest). In addition to this, his posturing lacks a lot of symmetry in arm flexion that is to be expected with decorticate posturing. Let us also mention that his lower extremities did not show signs of decorticate posturing either. The momentary extension of his right leg (misidentified as his left leg in the video) is not enough for this to be considered a sign of decorticate posturing. His toes are not extended and his left leg is still bent. This is why he was able to regain consciousness and some degree of coordination within minutes of the event, and why he was able to make a well enough recovery to be back on the field competing as starting qb in the season succeeding the event. The fact that only 37% of individuals with decorticate posturing survive and even less without severe impairment should be enough to know that they wouldn’t let him back on the field if he actually showed abnormal posturing. People would be much more livid if so many doctor made such a crucial mistake. Please do not share the misinformation in this video. Abnormal posturing is dangerous and not understanding how to properly identify it could make a drastic difference in the outcome of someone’s life.
@@helixzenithValid points, that part sure was weird. I think the main takeaways would be, if you see something abnormal with a person clearly in bad condition and unresponsive, call the emergency number (not 911, your local number, which i believe is 112 for whole Europe, but even if it isn't, it is in my country, so know your various local numbers and what they're for). Obviously if people were raised properly they'd know that you should take away only what makes most sense and just put all other info as a not so secure information to still be aware about, but with the rise of this new lazy lifestyle of making everything easier people become less optimal thinkers. I'm going off topic, but why do you think most people like the sea vacations more than mountains? Because it's relaxing, easy, feels like you'll have fun. Guess what, i recently got to climb the local mountain and that was one of the best experiences I've ever had. If you ask me sea or mountain, I'd choose mountain. It requires more work and fitness, but it makes you feel the serotonin, you meet people on the main course, some are even happy to say hi. Overall the people are in a different setting than in the city so they become more socialized and i love it. Made a friend on my first climb. Anyway, stay safe, and as always dad taught me, think several steps ahead, plan what you'll do, explore the paths you'll go at, like you do in chess.
EMT here. Absolutely right on the part where you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT want to move someone in a decerebrate posture. As much as you want to help someone who has been hurt, always consider cervical spine injuries when you come across a patient in a traumatic incident such as a car accident or fall. I always wear a helmet when I ride my bike, call me paranoid but you just never know.
I do long distance biking on gravel and dirt county roads. I don't give a crap how nerdy people think it is; I wear a helmet. And my first trip over the handlebars made me damned glad of it.
I have a question. I am a former pro dirtbike rider specializing in endurance racing. I got hurt and now I dedicate my time to training "kids" (16-19). It has always been a question rattling around in the back of my head about how I would handle a situation like this when we are in the middle of nowhere. I know is best to not move them. But if one of these guys got hurt out in the forest, my 2 options are to get them off the mountain and to a hospital. Or wait the 6 hours it takes for EMS to get a team together and all that to get them out. This area is far too wooded and mountainous for life flight so regardless walking them out is the only option. It would take me about 1:30 to get them out myself and to a hospital. I would be worried about brain bleeds and I know time is of the essence from my own head trauma.
head trauma is one of my biggest fears. when part of your body gets damage your body gets damaged, but when your brain gets damaged that is YOU getting damaged. eerie
Doesn't even need to be trauma, a lot of people experienced some brain damage in the pandemic. For most it was just some loss of smell/taste, but others are still dealing with brain fog etc. years on.
Yup, but tbh as someone who went through a traumatic Brian injury and somehow had almost no permanent effects and also chemotherapy for cancer, I can say that the loss of motor function sucked most during those times. When my brain was fucked up everything just felt foggy, like I was confused but wasn't super worried about it be cause I knew I would snap out of it. For the record I didn't know that for a fact, and it wasn't a guarantee that I would fully recover, but in my head in that moment I thought "oh well, I'm confused right now and I've been confused for a week, I'll figure it out tomorrow prolly." It is nothing short of a miracle that I'm alive right now. You don't hit cars at 165mph on a motorcycle and survive, let alone have zero permanent injuries from that event.
My dad died of a brain bleed after a fall in 2022. He had glioblastoma. As we said our goodbyes around his hospital bed, he went into decerebrate posturing. It’s crazy how resilient, yet how fragile, the brain is. Thank you for sharing.

Saw decorticate posturing once as an EMT, patient had a brain bleed that left her in a persistent vegetative state... 21 year old single mum. That was a Christmas eve that still haunts me to this day. Seeing the patient 6 months later, a decision my crewmate and I both regretted.
My little brother had a traumatic brain injury from a skateboarding accident because he wasn’t wearing his helmet. He was going down a steep hill, his skateboard slipped out from under him and he fell backwards and hit the back of his head on concrete. He’s a pretty strong dude so when he came to, he was confused and his friends couldn’t keep him down and my brother stood up, passed out and fell again on the back of his head a second time… It was really bad. But he got medical attention very quickly and went into surgery pretty fast too in order to place a drain in his skull to let out some of the pressure so his brain could swell, and they put him in a medically induced coma to aid in healing as well. He was in a coma for about a month and the doctors weren’t sure he was going to make it. It’s legitimately a miracle he survived his injury, and even more so a miracle that he is relatively ok since the accident. He can still walk and talk, but he completely lost his sense of smell, and had some minor personality changes (like he gets easily fixated on certain subjects, particularly music. He had a very hard time with time management, and he sometimes doesn’t pick up on social cues when he’s maybe being a tiny bit annoying lol.) but other than some of those personality changes he’s pretty much the same he was before the accident. His physical rehab team also said he recovered faster than any traumatic brain injury patient they’ve ever seen, and was discharged much sooner than most would. I joke it’s because he has such a hard head that protected his brain haha. We were also worried for him that he would lose his ability to play his guitar, but to our surprise he was able to play it not too long after the injury and didn’t lose any motor function to do it either. Years later, when I was planning my wedding I asked him to play “Jessie’s theme” from the final fantasy 7 remake on his guitar for me when I walked down the isle, and he played it beautifully. It was really special to have him play and we were both emotional about it knowing he might not have even been there because of his injury if he didn’t survive it. My brother got extremely lucky compared to most. If you skateboard, bike, or do anything that you should wear a helmet to do, please for the love of god WEAR YOUR HELMET!! My brothers doc said that had my brother worn his helmet he most likely wouldn’t have even needed to go to to the hospital. Even though he’s relatively ok, it was a huge gamble on his part to not wear one and he’s damn lucky he’s alive to even regret that decision.
The person you showed at 7:22 is my brother. He received a massive traumatic brain injury back in 2019 via skateboarding. The skateboarding industry will pay their athletes more to make skate edits without helmets on due to them being perceived as stupid looking. This perception almost killed my brother. Wear your helmet.
@@TREE3-ph4sr there was actual footage of people with brain trauma injury in decerebrate or decorticate posturing. Quite confronting, but excellent in highlighting the difference between the two.
My husband had decerebrate posturing after his car accident in 2012. He had his seatbelt on, the whole car seat came off and flew into the backseat where the car was impacted. He was air flown to a teaching hospital… the brain surgeon told me most places would have done nothing….as my husband had sooo many brain bleeds and decerebrate posturing. They have to teach the new brain surgeons somehow. 🤷🏻♀️ He is considered a functional quadriplegic. I didn’t even know what a brain bleed was or what it was going to mean. I didn’t know ANYTHING! He had his skull taken off, a feeding tube and a trach. He was in ICU for 3 weeks and they sent him to a step down unit to await a nursing home or going home. I brought him home. I was told he would be “complete care”. It took years even to figure that out….like what does that even mean? I wish they had a video like this back then. I was so lost and he was flown to a hospital out of state. I was using the hotel computer trying to figure it out. I was told he was most likely going to be a vegetable or minimally conscious. He came home exactly a month after his accident. Still without his skull and with a feeding tube. They took his trach out. He had no health insurance. He was aware of nothing and could move nothing but his left fingers. Everyday he came around more and more. It was 6 months in and I still wasn’t sure he knew me or the kids. He DID come around though. He is full care. He can move his lift side and he can stand to transfer. He has his memories and humor. He is an artist and still draws/paints. He had to relearn to use his left hand. He is childlike now… but he is happy. I wish I could add a video to your collection… and RUclips would allow you to upload it. Honestly people everyday are being told their loved one has brain bleeds, posturing, “complete care” and it IS hard to picture what that actually means. Thank you for this video. I might have PTSD, because just seeing the images of posturing flooded me with soo many emotions and pain. 😢
Thank you for staying by him, and helping him through all of this. Many people are not so lucky, and their caregivers are given so much misinformation from all quarters and very little actual help. The patient themself can make it worse, and blaming the caregiver who did not cause it. It takes a toll!

this video scared me to my core, the brain that houses our entire being is so fragile and there is something so utterly morbid about seeing someones "self" damaged or destroyed, thank you for the informative video.
Same. Expanding on why it’s disturbing to me: The Greek letter Psi doesn’t only mean mind, but also soul. The soul is arguably an ancient conception of the mind. So the soul is physically present, not an indestructible wisp. People conceive of the soul as eternal and sacred, as they recognize the immense, almost divine quality of a mind. Death, an end to something so valuable, is almost incomprehensible, through afterlife or metaphorically we view our soul, our thoughts, as eternal, somehow effecting a divine thread beyond our life. But if the soul is not invincible and can be altered outside of our will, then are you changed for all past and future? Somehow defiled for eternity? The thread of our life ends however, and regardless of what we began and ended as, we return to the same unconscious dream of the universe. And that can never be defiled, as it’s always the same.
@@alexquinn2390 The saddest part is that the universe itself is also dying. Very slowly, but irreversibly all other forms of energy are turned into heat and electromagnetic radiation, and the space itself keeps expanding until no two subatomic particles will even be able to interact with each other before decaying. As much as I would like to believe that there is an infinite multiverse that has the time as a concept confined to individual universes, or that there is the big crunch after which a new big bang occurs, these are not the only theories around. And we will never find out for sure, as it only takes one reproducible experiment to turn everything we think we know into a special case that is an oversimplification and only occurs under certain conditions that we just happen to be living in.
@@krzysztofczarnecki8238Fyi, the crunch-bang is called the big bounce ^^ I tend towards a philosophical Monism that gets at something beyond even the universe. Non-existence is an illusion because non-existence also exists, plus what's the difference between the universe not existing and existing if no consciousness is there to see it? The unconscious dream continues, even unto death. I'm not saying it doesn't make me sad though, the universe is cool and if humanity is ever able to (which I severely doubt) we should do what we can to preserve it (if there is any way, which I also doubt, but hopeful thinking). But, in the future of the heat death- existence still... exists, imo, even if the big bounce doesn't happen. Because there was a time before the universe was born and there's a time after it "dies," Existence happened so, whether before or after the universe, exist is still gonna exist, if that makes any sense.
It's actually terrifying how fragile our brain is. If the brain swells for example, it has essentially no room left to expand so it can cause permenant and life changing damage. Stay safe out there ya'll.
@@croozerdog (I'm probably 0% qualified for this advice) Brain swelling is rare (unless you're very sick), but if you drink too much water (i.e 3 litres in the span of 2 hours) it can cause the brain to swell. So if you're not chugging yourself to death with water, you'll be fine mate.

Brain damage from a philosophical standpoint is terrifying, also. The idea that the very fabric of your existence and consciousness can be damaged and altered at any given moment is scary. One moment you can be completely normal, then one day you may get a bad head injury and you'll feel like a completely different person. Take care of your brain, folks.
You don’t even have the you that could feel different from a head injury sometimes. Imagine a sweet normal dude who post head injury starts lying, becoming violent, overly promiscuous, unable to stop spending money. Happened to a friend and you can’t even really tell who he was then and now. He’ll do mean stuff on purpose and then use his condition to forget so you can’t call him out. Eventually I had to leave, because it became too much. It’s really odd and sad to grieve a living person. Especially when they did you wrong, bc who did it, really? Who can you get mad at? I've been saved from potentially fatal head injuries 3 times on a bicycle thanks to my helmets. Never ride without one; anything can happen and you aren't invincible...
Yeah, i fell off a bike and slammed my head on the pavement once. I don’t actually remember this happening, I was just riding a bike and the next thing I know I was laying on a couch apparently repeating the same phrase over and over again and it kind of felt like my consciousness was hanging by a thread. I recovered obviously, but I could tell my brain function was a bit off for the better part of a year afterwards. I feel like I got lucky to not have something worse happen. Definitely wear that helmet.
I can somewhat understand RUclips's policy of not showing certain images and footage, especially after Logan Paul uploaded a video of a suicide victim. BUT on the flipside, where I stand, this is a potentially life-saving educational video about head injuries that's easy to follow and straight to the point like another channel I'm subscribed to, The Engineering Mindset, where I learned more about electronics there than I did at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). @@Youngbloodmelv It somehow boiling down to them supposedly "wanting to see someone die" is a pretty boneheaded assumption. Go get help man, or better yet give your brain to someone who might be able to use that thing better than you are now.
Great video bro. This is why I *always* wear my helmet when riding my bike. Personally I use a MIPS rated helmet which not only protects from the initial shock, but it’s also designed to reduce torsional forces too by allowing the foam and the liner to twist separately from the outer helmet. So when you hit the ground, instead of that twisting force twisting your entire head, the liner breaks away from the helmet’s outer shell and dissipates the force. You get one brain, and once it’s damaged, it’s often not ever going to go back to normal. You think you look goofy in a helmet? Wait until you’re in a wheelchair drooling on your shirt. Look after yourself brothers and sisters
I fell about 45+ ft off a steel fire escape, bounced off the stairs railing, broke all vertebrates in my neck and broken rib punctured my lung. Now at 60 five years later I'm driving, riding my bike, practicing my forms, hiking and other things I thought I'd never do again. It was a long hard fight to get here. Yes I live with brain damage every day from a stroke in 2010. It is nearly impossible for people who have not experienced it to understand what it means and how it affects every minute of your life. I am quite severely crippled but still live alone with no support . People even after all this time still expect me to perform as before but naturally I am getting older , in my mid 70’s, and what I could do even three years ago I can’t do now. That’s just the way life is and the way people are. I find that I get the message that people just wish I would go away and they may get that wish quite soon. I can’t go on forever. Everything and everyone is disposable now.
I suffered a moderate concussion in April after falling over and hitting the back of my head hard on the wall. The doctors told my parents that either I would not regain consciousness, or that if I did… I would be a “vegetable” for the rest of my life. I’m told I was found a day later on my apartment floor and posturing after a friend called the police to do health and wellness check as I didn’t show up to work.

This is amazing thank you so much dark science. I wish I could have seen the original or even an earlier video but you're awesome and you're dedication in this channel shows. Just earned a new subscriber
They aren't removing anything harmful to kids (MrBeast should be pulled). There's an entire library of child porn on RUclips all hidden via setting the video as 'Unlisted' and basically unaccessible... unless you have the URL...
you basically had to remove all of the clips. I saw this when it originally came out, and thought it was really interesting to actually see the posturing, like a hard look at the reality of it, as opposed to just colorful diagrams. Shame you had to remove it all
Hey man, thank you for breaking that down. I saw this Indian fella do a "hammer trick" with a few of his buddies in a circle. Bro had a wodden mallet, and in a feat of daring do, bonked one of said buddies square on the head. It was all bad. He did the decorticate posture, and it was a hell of a sight. I hope bro survived and wasn't too bad off. It seemed like a heavily populated show, so hopefully, help found him quick.

Thank you. This video explained what two emergency medical classes didn’t. There’s a ton of info to memorize and know. I would have loved to have seen something this simple.
I worked in a head injury rehab facility for 7 years. This brought back many memories of my patients. A few regained some cognitive functions and even fewer regained anything close to pre-injury health. Long term studies eventually concluded that if cognitive recovery didn't happen soon post-injury , the odds of coming out of a coma or semi-coma were minimal. Thanks for the great lesson. Indeed, the brain control the rest of the body. If the brain gets damaged, the body gets damaged.
I watched when you initially uploaded it was very educational then I came back for a second listen but it was gone. This one is really a shell of the original. Still enjoy your content.
RUclips censorship can be very annoying. It's a shame, the possibilities would be incredible on this platform if it weren't for censorship. I saw the original video. It was shocking and made me think twice before exposing my skull to impacts which I thought were more or less harmless. Stay safe people, and F youtube.
Though my grandfather died from Parkinson's complications, my mother said that he remained sharp up until the day he died even after a life of some pretty hard knocks (he used to ride his motorcycle a lot, even recounting a time he crashed into a tree because a bee stung him) because he was really good at protecting his head from impact. Even when he fell over from his Parkinson's tremors at old age.
I watched this video when you first uploaded it. A few days later I wanted to rewatch it, but couldn't find it on your channel. Luckily, someone else had reuploaded it (I had to google for a good hour to find it, youtube doesn't want this to be easily accessible) and I downloaded it so as to not take chances of losing it because it's a great video.

Head injuries are NO joke. I'm 31 and received my first (mild) concussion after falling off a curb on my skateboard. My head made no contact with the ground, and the side of my body caught the ground. Hours later, I felt incredibly "slow" and ended up throwing up almost involuntarily. The next few days my head felt "warm" on the side I fell on. After a few days of slow improvement, I finally gave in and got a CT scan. Thankfully there was no bleeding or bruising found at that time. Tl;dr if you think you might have hit your head, DO NOT wait! Things can deteriorate fast!
Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough. It's quite fascinating how effective they are against depression and anxiety. Saved my life.

Yes, kayes_tripz. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
Had a friend whose mom was a trauma nurse. His retellings of her retellings of motorcycle head trauma victims' head traumas and *always only PARTIAL* recoveries, and her retold absolute insistence to *never ride a motorcycle* stick with me always... especially when I'm on a bike, lol.

When I got the notification for this I thought you were going to talk about Cerebral Palsy lol. My mother has spastic cerebral palsy and can't break down/see shapes or properly coordinate her movements. I suspect she also struggles with color Differentiation as well. Her body tries to curl into a tight ball and takes A LOT of stretching to keep her tendons from shortening because of it. It's interesting to see the similarities between blunt force trauma brain injuries and tissue death due to lack of oxygen.
I was trying to research this recently and had a really hard time finding much information I guess using the keywords I was searching. Happy to see this awesome explanation!
You didn't mention, "Coup Counter-Coup." Which is the effect of the brain slamming against the inside of the skull & rebounding hitting the opposite side of the skull.
As someone who experienced brain damage as an infant and has to deal with its effects even as an adult, thank you for making this video. Brain damage has made my life harder and I believe every person should be educated about it in schools, head and brain health is so important to learn about! Even though you’ve had to reupload this video, it’s still so very informative and interesting to watch!
1:16 As a physicist, the phrase "force of inertia" gave me whiplash 🤢 Inertia is not a force. The inertia of an object is how difficult it is for a force acting on it to change its velocity. The dummies keep moving because they have inertia, which means they take time to be stopped by the forces of the car/seatbelts/etc acting on them.
A couple of weeks ago I got to shadow a pathologist at our local teaching hospital and he asked me if I wanted to hold a deceased patients brain, and I can confirm, it felt like I was holding jello or even fat. It was kind of surreal for me because the person had a major head injury due to a car accident and I survived a high speed collision in 2015 when we were hit head on by a car going 100 MPH and we were going 50 MPH. After I was sent home that night, my mom noticed I was doing decorticate posturing and it happened again three days later when I had a ITA
FINALLY. Thank you. I've been wondering what this is for so long. Decerebrate Posturing, more specifically. I'm a police dispatcher and have seen a lot of bodycam footage involving shooting victims over the years. I noticed this effect in almost all those people in those videos - or at least, I noticed it being present for the few moments immediately following the trauma. One of the best examples that comes to mind that is actually accessible on YT is the bodycam footage of Vicky White (a corrections officer who helped an inmate escape and eventually took her own life during a police pursuit). In the bodycam footage you can see her (albeit mostly censored) as she is being found and then removed from her crashed vehicle. She sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound moments before officers approached her. The only part of her that isn't censored is her arm/hand area, but the exact posture being discussed in this video is undeniably there. Also, I have a certification in something called Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD). Meaning when someone calls 9-1-1, I know what to say to the caller to hopefully help keep the patient alive and minimize further injury long enough for first responders to arrive and take over. I have heard it all. You name it, I know exactly what to say to give you the best chance of survival. But the main issue I have with EMD is that I don't always know *why* you need to do those things in certain situations. Even if I do know why, I don't always know how to quickly make the caller understand why. For example, I know you (generally) shouldn't move someone who's lost consciousness as a result of physical trauma. Essentially anyone who's been injured so badly that they cannot move themselves. Car accident victims, for example. I think I even understand more or less why in that example, but if I can't articulate the *why's* to a 9-1-1 caller, then I have a lower chance of gaining their cooperation and ultimately a lower chance of giving the sick or injured person the best possible chance at survival/recovery. Videos like this help put into words some of the things that I couldn't. Also, I started skating about a year ago. Both in skateparks and at home. I sometimes wouldn't wear a helmet. This video reminded me that I should know better. I'm definitely going to make a habit of wearing that damn helmet EVERY time again 😅 Thanks again and sorry to hear you've been algorithm'd 😬
So, those videos put on the internet for lolz that show people posturing after being hit in the head are even more disturbing than initially thought. Horrifying but incredibly informative and eye opening video.
Indeed, depending on the posture they either have a 1 in 3 chance of survival or 1 in 10, so those "No one was harmed" captions are usually just window dressing.
I’ve had a fascination with abnormal posturing and other signs of extreme urgency for some time. These can sometimes be misinterpreted as the victim being fine, when nothing could be further from the truth. The other sign that’s often tragically overlooked is myoclonus. This is an involuntary movement 1/5 people make when suffering cardiac arrest, and it’s sometimes mistaken for voluntary movement. It may happen together with agonal breathing, yet another severe sign that can be misinterpreted as normal breathing. Agonal breathing is insufficient to sustain life and a last ditch involuntary effort before death. Perhaps a series on commonly misinterpreted patient presentations would be a great follow-up. Great video!
this sort of thing really fascinates me too! i remember seeing a video on reddit where someone got punched in the face and fell over backwards onto the concrete- half the comments were like "he's fine, the punch wasnt even that bad" and the other half recognized the position the guy's body went into when he hit the concrete and posted links to information abt it n stuff... wish i could find the post or at least remember the name of the posture
A close loved one suffered a TBI recently. This video made me cry because of how lucky I am to still have this person in my life and how my heart breaks for those who have suffered a lower quality of life post injury.
I saw this happen to a guy years ago when I was a bartender. Two guys got into a fight. One guy landed a good punch, the other guy fell back, hit his head on a tile table, hit the floor and did this. He also soiled himself. He didn't make it. I was almost called as a witness for the trial, but the killer took a plea at the last minute. I wish I could say that was the craziest thing I ever saw, but it only came in second.
Around 6 months ago, I fell off my bike, and suffered from a distal radius fracture. It was painful, but it was this video that made me realize that I very well could've died if I hadn't worn my helmet. I fell with extreme force on my back on a curb where my helmet was there. The helmet broke, saving my life. Made me realize the importance of helmets and seatbelts, good video.
Hello Adam! I'm sorry you went through so much in your endeavor to teach a bunch of internet strangers. But I'm glad you kept pushing. This video popped up in my recommendations from RUclips. I did learn from it. And had to Sub. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Sincerely, Victoria
I wonder if this fragility has anything to do with the immediate blinding rage you get when something bonks you on the head. Standing up into an open counter door really makes you want to DESTROY that cabinet. I dont get that response from a toe stub and papercut. But any damage to my head and its fight on sight even if theres nothing in sight.
It does, damage to the head/brain, even mild damage like a concussion puts you in fight or flight initially until you can get a handle on the situation, when you get an unexpected smack over the head it could be because something fell off a high shelf or it could be a home invader, your brain instinctively prepares for the latter.

Such a shame... I initially found it extremely useful to see videos of victims of traumatic head injuries, learn how to spot telltale signs and act accordingly. Useful, but also terrifying because of how how people are much too cavalier with street brawls and activities, putting their brains at risk of permanent injury.

@@phalanges3647 I really didn't.
(meaning that even where one area may be damaged, it can rewire itself to compensate!)
I just say this that ppl don't go away from this video, terrifying to live, do sports, drive etc and believe that the slightest knock will make you permanently injured... That is just not true! Our skull protects our brain. Nature made it that way...
P.s. Build up your neck muscles! 😉

Ur prob not reading allat but I thought I’d leave it there js in case someone does.

Wearing a helmet is a must, you are not paranoid but smart.
Fellow EMT. We get real world examples as of the wonderful properties that is "wearing a helmet" you aint paranoid homie 😂
To be honest I just don't ride a bike anymore. :P I would if I could go somewhere there's no cars.
I would be worried about brain bleeds and I know time is of the essence from my own head trauma.
head trauma is one of my biggest fears. when part of your body gets damage your body gets damaged, but when your brain gets damaged that is YOU getting damaged. eerie
Yup, can confirm it sucks majorly.
Yeah the brain is most important part to protect
Doesn't even need to be trauma, a lot of people experienced some brain damage in the pandemic. For most it was just some loss of smell/taste, but others are still dealing with brain fog etc. years on.
Yup, but tbh as someone who went through a traumatic Brian injury and somehow had almost no permanent effects and also chemotherapy for cancer, I can say that the loss of motor function sucked most during those times. When my brain was fucked up everything just felt foggy, like I was confused but wasn't super worried about it be cause I knew I would snap out of it. For the record I didn't know that for a fact, and it wasn't a guarantee that I would fully recover, but in my head in that moment I thought "oh well, I'm confused right now and I've been confused for a week, I'll figure it out tomorrow prolly."
It is nothing short of a miracle that I'm alive right now. You don't hit cars at 165mph on a motorcycle and survive, let alone have zero permanent injuries from that event.
I've been lucky had so many head injuries, concussions split my head open countless times, was run over and bruised my brain no long lasting problems.

My little brother had a traumatic brain injury from a skateboarding accident because he wasn’t wearing his helmet. He was going down a steep hill, his skateboard slipped out from under him and he fell backwards and hit the back of his head on concrete. He’s a pretty strong dude so when he came to, he was confused and his friends couldn’t keep him down and my brother stood up, passed out and fell again on the back of his head a second time…
It was really bad.

He was air flown to a teaching hospital… the brain surgeon told me most places would have done nothing….as my husband had sooo many brain bleeds and decerebrate posturing. They have to teach the new brain surgeons somehow. 🤷🏻♀️
He is considered a functional quadriplegic.
I'm so sorry for you, my best wishes to you and your family.

@@krzysztofczarnecki8238Fyi, the crunch-bang is called the big bounce ^^
I tend towards a philosophical Monism that gets at something beyond even the universe.

At the end of the day ppl just have enough and have to keep caring but move on. :(

There are still glimmers of his old self in there sometimes, but the damage to his brain from chronic use has effectively made him someone very unpleasant to be around.
@@veccioI send you my condolences. As someone who has taken hits to the head and even seen stars once, you are sometimes aware your brain isn't working right.

FINALLY.
Great information everyone should know. Thank you for educating people
So, those videos put on the internet for lolz that show people posturing after being hit in the head are even more disturbing than initially thought. Horrifying but incredibly informative and eye opening video.
Indeed, depending on the posture they either have a 1 in 3 chance of survival or 1 in 10, so those "No one was harmed" captions are usually just window dressing.
@@krashd Or "they recovered with no adverse effects whatsoever."
5:39 why, why did you have to make me breathe manually now
I just lost the game.
I lost my way and have been manually breathing for the past month.
Protect your head and neck
That's all I ever wanted from this video
thank you for this video, i was interested in the topic and never really knew where to look
Very well explained. Now I’m better prepared. Thank you
looks like a typical night for half the contenders of Power Slap
Commenting for the algorithm ❤️ hopefully RUclips won’t have an issue with this one
A close loved one suffered a TBI recently. This video made me cry because of how lucky I am to still have this person in my life and how my heart breaks for those who have suffered a lower quality of life post injury.
This is valuable education.
Thank you for your persistence
I legit thought the thumbnail picture was a parody of Raygun's Olympic breakdancing before I read the title
My career was as a neurosurgical ICU nurse.
Please, RUclips, show the facts.
What
I saw this happen to a guy years ago when I was a bartender.
What’s first?
Sincerely,
Victoria
